    National audienceL'objectif du projet de démonstrateur TAMARIS est d'intégrer un processus et des outils innovants de traitement de l'information pour l'analyse d'une situation qui comporte une série d'alertes correspondant à un comportement suspect de navire. Ce comportement suspect peut se dérouler dans le temps (sur plusieurs jours, voir mois) et sur un espace maritime étendu (plusieurs centaines de miles nautiques). L'analyse est traduite par l'élaboration, en temps réel, d'un dossier d'interprétation électronique. Ce dernier est standardisé, et permet de rassembler l'ensemble des informations et l'analyse sur un seul support réactualisé au fil du déroulement de la situation. Ce dossier peut être transmis aux autorités décisionnelles afin de suivre en permanence les évolutions et d'être informées de l'identification progressive du comportement suspect durant son déroulement. Une table tactile permet de constituer et visualiser ce dossier, mais aussi à une équipe d'experts de différentes organisations de travailler ensemble ou à distance de façon interactive. Enfin, le dossier constitue une archive quasi complète et chronologique qui peut être transmise également à des enquêteurs pour mener des investigations ultérieures suites à une plainte

    Typing Late Prehistoric Cows and Bulls—Osteology and Genetics of Cattle at the Eketorp Ringfort on the Öland Island in Sweden

    Human management of livestock and the presence of different breeds have been discussed in archaeozoology and animal breeding. Traditionally osteometrics has been the main tool in addressing these questions. We combine osteometrics with molecular sex identifications of 104 of 340 morphometrically analysed bones in order to investigate the use of cattle at the Eketorp ringfort on the Öland island in Sweden. The fort is dated to 300–1220/50 A.D., revealing three different building phases. In order to investigate specific patterns and shifts through time in the use of cattle the genetic data is evaluated in relation to osteometric patterns and occurrence of pathologies on cattle metapodia. Males were genotyped for a Y-chromosomal SNP in UTY19 that separates the two major haplogroups, Y1 and Y2, in taurine cattle. A subset of the samples were also genotyped for one SNP involved in coat coloration (MC1R), one SNP putatively involved in resistance to cattle plague (TLR4), and one SNP in intron 5 of the IGF-1 gene that has been associated to size and reproduction

    In statistics, samples are drawn from a population in a data-generating process (DGP). Standard errors measure the uncertainty in estimates of population parameters. In science, evidence is generated to test hypotheses in an evidence-generating process (EGP). We claim that EGP variation across researchers adds uncertainty-nonstandard errors (NSEs). We study NSEs by letting 164 teams test the same hypotheses on the same data. NSEs turn out to be sizable, but smaller for more reproducible or higher rated research. Adding peer-review stages reduces NSEs. We further find that this type of uncertainty is underestimated by participants

    Autonomic maturation from birth to 2 years normative values

    International audienceBackground While heart rate variability (HRV) constitutes a relevant non-invasive tool to assess the autonomic nervous system (ANS) function with recognized diagnostic or therapeutic implications, there is still a lack of established data on maturation of autonomic control of heart rate during the first months of life. The Autonomic Baby Evaluation (AuBE) cohort was built to establish, the normal autonomic maturation profile from birth up to 2 years, in a healthy population of full-term newborns. Methods Heart rate variability analysis was carried out in 271 full-term newborns (mean gestational age 39 wGA + 5 days) from reliable polysomnographic recordings at 0 (n = 270) and 6 (n = 221) months and from a 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG) at 12 (n = 210), 18 (n = 197), and 24 (n = 190) months. Indices of HRV analysis were calculated through the ANSLabTools software. Results Indices are dissociated according a temporal, geometrical, frequency, Poincaré empirical mode decomposition, fractal, Chaos and DC/AC and entropy analysis. Each index is presented for five different periods of time, 0, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months and with smoothed values in the 3rd, 10th, 50th, 90th and 97th percentiles. Data are also presented for the full cohort and individualized by sex to account for gender variability. Discussion and conclusion The physiological autonomic maturation profile from birth to 2 years in a healthy population of term neonates results in a fine-tuning autonomic maturation underlying progressively a new equilibrium and privileging the parasympathetic activity over the sympathetic activity. © 2019 The Author

    Transient ciliogenesis involving Bardet-Biedl syndrome proteins is a fundamental characteristic of adipogenic differentiation.

    International audienceBardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is an inherited ciliopathy generally associated with severe obesity, but the underlying mechanism remains hypothetical and is generally proposed to be of neuroendocrine origin. In this study, we show that while the proliferating preadipocytes or mature adipocytes are nonciliated in culture, a typical primary cilium is present in differentiating preadipocytes. This transient cilium carries receptors for Wnt and Hedgehog pathways, linking this organelle to previously described regulatory pathways of adipogenesis. We also show that the BBS10 and BBS12 proteins are located within the basal body of this primary cilium and inhibition of their expression impairs ciliogenesis, activates the glycogen synthase kinase 3 pathway, and induces peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor nuclear accumulation, hence favoring adipogenesis. Moreover, adipocytes derived from BBS-patients' dermal fibroblasts in culture exhibit higher propensity for fat accumulation when compared to controls. This strongly suggests that a peripheral primary dysfunction of adipogenesis participates to the pathogenesis of obesity in BBS
