    Qualipesc - sistema inteligente para auxílio na avaliação da qualidade de pescados

Deste modo, existe uma preocupação por parte dos produtores, em avaliar a aceitação de seus produtos pelo mercado consumidor. Assim, o desenvolvimento de técnicas e metodologias que possam contribuir para esta avaliação são de grande interesse. Segundo estimativas da O.N.U., nos próximos 30 anos, o consumo "per capita" de pescados estará em torno de 14 Kg, e a demanda por estes produtos será de 115 milhões de toneladas, chegando a um aumento de 75% nos próximos anos. Considerando esta demanda pela produção de pescados, a boa qualidade destes produtos, é fator fundamental para sua aceitação no mercado consumidor. Sendo assim, se torna imprescindível que a avaliação dos processos de análise sensorial, bioquímica e microbiológica, importantes na determinação da qualidade de um produto, seja realizada de modo rápido e eficiente. Para isto, propõe-se a utilização de ferramentas computacionais, mais especificamente, um sistema híbrido, como instrumento de auxílio na avaliação de tais processos. O QUALIPESC consta de um sistema especialista difuso para auxiliar a avaliação da qualidade sensorial do pescado, e duas redes neurais artificiais, uma para auxiliar a avaliação da qualidade microbiológica e outra para auxiliar a avaliação da qualidade bioquímica do produto. As redes neurais artificiais foram implementadas utilizando a ferramenta MATLab for Windows 4.0, o sistema especialista difuso foi desenvolvido sob a shell Expert Sinta 1.1b e a interface do usuário foi implementada utilizando-se o Delphi 3.0

    Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the use of sodium bicarbonate solution as an adjunct in the treatment of critically ill patients in an intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A group of 76 patients were followed up, of which 44 received treatment with a sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) solution along with the conventional treatment, and 32 patients used only the conventional treatment. Results: In patients treated, there was an improvement in radiological findings, a decrease in opacity and bilateral consolidations, as well as reduced length of stay in the ICU, and mortality. Conclusion: The use of NaHCO3 solution as an adjunct in the treatment of COVID-19 improved prognosis compared to conventional treatment. 

    Economic analysis of an agrosilvipastoral system for a mountainous area in Zona da Mata Mineira, Brazil

    The objective of this work was to evaluate the economic viability of an agrosilvipastoral system developed for Zona da Mata mountainous areas in Minas Gerais state, Brazil, as well as to compare different options for wood (Eucalyptus grandis and Acacia mangium) commercialization of the second thinning. The data were obtained from a 10 year-old agrosilvipastoral system established in four hectares at Embrapa Gado de Leite station in Coronel Pacheco, MG, Brazil. As evaluation criteria for the economic viability analysis, the adopted methods were the net present value (NPV) and the internal rate of return (IRR), both calculated at 6% interest rate. Despite the small difference, adding value to forest products increased the attractiveness of the proposed system. Considered separately, the agricultural activity was impracticable, whereas the forestry and livestock activities were independently viable. The studied system seems to be equally tolerant to price variations for forest and livestock products, as well as strongly tolerant to variations in production costs

    Evaluation of in vitro Antifungal Activity of Xylosma prockia (Turcz.) Turcz. (Salicaceae) Leaves Against Cryptococcus spp.

    Cryptococcus species are responsible for important systemic mycosis and are estimated to cause millions of new cases annually. The available therapy is limited due to the high toxicity and the increasing rates of yeast resistance to antifungal drugs. Popularly known as “sucará,” Xylosma prockia (Turcz.) Turcz. (Salicaceae) is a native plant from Brazil with little information on its pharmacological potential. In this work, we evaluated in vitro anticryptococcal effects of the leaf ethanolic extract of X. prockia and its fractions against Cryptococcus gattii and Cryptococcus neoformans. We also evaluated phenotypic alterations caused by ethyl acetate fraction (EAF) (chosen according to its biological results). The liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis of EAF demonstrated the presence of phenolic metabolites that belong to three structurally related groups as majority compounds: caffeoylquinic acid, coumaroyl-glucoside, and caffeoyl-glucoside/deoxyhexosyl-caffeoyl glucoside derivatives. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values against C. gattii and C. neoformans ranged from 8 to 64 mg/L and from 0.5 to 8 mg/L, for ethanolic extract and EAF, respectively. The EAF triggered an oxidative burst and promoted lipid peroxidation. EAF also induced a reduction of ergosterol content in the pathogen cell membrane. These effects were not associated with alterations in the cell surface charge or in the thermodynamic fingerprint of the molecular interaction between EAF and the yeasts evaluated. Cytotoxic experiments with peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) demonstrated that EAF was more selective for yeasts than was PBMCs. The results may provide evidence that X. prockia leaf extract might indeed be a potential source of antifungal agents.Fil: Folly, Mariany L. C..     O Diagnóstico Situacional é um dispositivo que tem a finalidade de coletar e analisar os dados referentes as condições de saúde e risco de determinada população. Estes dados são importantes e servem como base para a decisão nas ações e serviços da Atenção Básica (AB). Essa pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a produção cientifica que aborde a utilização do diagnóstico situacional para realização do planejamento das ações na Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF). Para o estudo foi adotado o método de revisão integrativa da literatura nas bases de dados: SciELO, LILACS e Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), de outubro e novembro de 2020, utilizando quatro combinações de descritores que totalizaram sete produções. Foram selecionados os artigos completos, no idioma português, publicados nos últimos cinco anos, os quais abordassem o tema. Após isso, os dados foram catalogados e analisados a luz da literatura pertinente. Os estudos apontaram a importância do diagnóstico situacional para a compreensão das demandas de cuidados no território de atuação da ESF, servindo para desenvolver melhores estratégias de atenção integral, decisões assertivas no processo de trabalho em equipe, além de propiciar uma maior interligação entre a comunidade e os profissionais de saúde

    SARS-CoV-2 introductions and early dynamics of the epidemic in Portugal

    Genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Portugal was rapidly implemented by the National Institute of Health in the early stages of the COVID-19 epidemic, in collaboration with more than 50 laboratories distributed nationwide. Methods By applying recent phylodynamic models that allow integration of individual-based travel history, we reconstructed and characterized the spatio-temporal dynamics of SARSCoV-2 introductions and early dissemination in Portugal. Results We detected at least 277 independent SARS-CoV-2 introductions, mostly from European countries (namely the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland), which were consistent with the countries with the highest connectivity with Portugal. Although most introductions were estimated to have occurred during early March 2020, it is likely that SARS-CoV-2 was silently circulating in Portugal throughout February, before the first cases were confirmed. Conclusions Here we conclude that the earlier implementation of measures could have minimized the number of introductions and subsequent virus expansion in Portugal.     Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.
