eXtended hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin for incompressible flow problems with unfitted meshes and interfaces

The eXtended hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (X-HDG) method is developed for the solution of Stokes problems with void or material interfaces. X-HDG is a novel method that combines the hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) method with an eXtended finite element strategy, resulting in a high-order, unfitted, superconvergent method, with an explicit definition of the interface geometry by means of a level-set function. For elements not cut by the interface, the standard HDG formulation is applied, whereas a modified weak form for the local problem is proposed for cut elements. Heaviside enrichment is considered on cut faces and in cut elements in the case of bimaterial problems. Two-dimensional numerical examples demonstrate that the applicability, accuracy, and superconvergence properties of HDG are inherited in X-HDG, with the freedom of computational meshes that do not fit the interfacesPeer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

This study presents the results of a diachronic literature review of publications about approaches to ADHD treatment, in order to determine the number and efficacy of treatment approaches during the last 25 years. Results derived from this literature review of three temporal periods (1986-1992; 1994-2000; 2001-2011), show that studies were mainly focused on pharmacological treatment. Possible explanations of this trend are argued, emphasising the need to promote multimodal and contextual intervention

This article shows the influence that journalistic genres had on the first organisation of communication studies in Spain as well as the role they remain to play in the teaching of journalism. A review is done starting from the origins of the didactics of genres, continuing with the role of genres in the beginning of regulated studies of journalism, and finalising with an analysis of their place in present education programmes which reveals that practical and theoretical knowledge of the genres are still a main objective in the training of future journalists in Spain.

This study presents the results of a diachronic literature review of publications about approaches to ADHD treatment, in order to determine the number and efficacy of treatment approaches during the last 25 years. Objective: Based on a functional-contextual analysis of the problems cancer patients have, the efficacy of Behavioral Activation Therapy for the prevention of emotional disorders and the promotion of life quality on lung cancer patients will be analyzed.Method: A total of 90 lung cancer patients were selected consecutively. Patients were randomly assigned to un experimental group (G.E.: N=50) where a specific protocol was designed to increase relevant activities and healthy behaviors, erasing disease behaviors previously learned and modifying the pattern of experiential avoidance; and a control group (G.C.: N=40) where life quality and psychosocial effects of both illness and treatment were assessed, without ever offering counseling or psychological treatment. Both conditions received a total of four individual one hour long treatment sessions in the hospital. Results were collected through standardized scales (IK, HADS, QLQ-C30, EG y SP) in each of the treatment sessions and during the three months follow-ups. The evolution and tendency of the variables was analyzed using MLG y MLM.Results: Participants, doe to their clinical and sociodemographic characteristics resulted a representative group of the population studied and did not differ between themselves in the pre-treatment. In both groups there was a loss of subjects produced by hospitalization / death. The comparison analysis inter and intra groups indicate that among participants, the G. E. showed, over time, statistically significant differences (p< 0.05) in all subscales of QLQ- C30 functioning. In the HAD subscales, significant differences between groups in favor of GE (p<0.05) were achieved. Improvements shown by the G.E. weakened during the follow-up.Conclusions: Behavioral Activation Therapy, during cancer treatment, improved life quality and emotional adjustment. The study indicates the need to investigate the characteristics of patients and/or intervention, as its effectiveness and efficiency depends on them

The existence of a double and simultaneous tendency in communication of this century is gettting increasingly obvious. This tendency consists of the phenomenon of globalization and the attention to the local environment, two sides of the world of information. The local environment is based on proximity, whereas technology and economy lead us to a global scene with less and less barriers. This general process, with all its contradictions, is what some scholars in communication now define as glocalization

The Predictive power of the yield curve: evidence from Spain

Treball Final de Grau en Economia. Codi: EC1049. Curs acadèmic: 2022/2023The slope of the yield curve has been mentioned as a leading economic indicator of the economy’s path in the future. Thus, an inversion of the curve has been interpreted as a sign of a future recession. Over the last decades, empirical research has been made with the aim of finding a significant relationship between the yield curve and future economic activity. In this paper, we examine the predictive power of the yield curve in Spain. We consider a simple linear regression model which predicts the change in the industrial production using the yield spread as an explanatory variable. To study the stability of recession forecasts over time, we divided the full dataset in two sub-samples. Moreover, as the literature states that binary models are more stable at forecasting future economic activity, we consider a probit model to predict recessions using the yield curve. Results obtained in both models are not statistically significant at any conventional significance level
