Influence of the Surface Viscosity on the Breakup of a Surfactant-Laden Drop

We examine both theoretically and experimentally the breakup of a pendant drop loaded with an insoluble surfactant. The experiments show that a significant amount of surfactant is trapped in the resulting satellite droplet. This result contradicts previous theoretical predictions, where the effects of surface tension variation were limited to solutocapillarity and Marangoni stresses. We solve numerically the hydrodynamic equations, including not only those effects but also those of surface shear and dilatational viscosities. We show that surface viscosities play a critical role to explain the accumulation of surfactant in the satellite droplet.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad DPI2013-46485-C3-1-R, TRA2013- 45808-RJunta de Extremadura GR1004

Monitoring adverse reactions following immunisation is essential, particularly for new vaccines such as those against COVID-19. We describe 20 cases of acute onset of a single supraclavicular lymphadenopathy manifesting between 24 h and 9 days after ipsilateral intramuscular administration of an mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine, referred to our WHO Collaborating Centre for Vaccine Safety. Our results indicate that the swelling of supraclavicular lymph nodes following immunisation may constitute a benign and self-limited condition, related to a higher than recommended injection siteS

The pursuit of happiness has been one of the most significant in the life of human beings throughout history purposes, not only in their eagerness to experience it and live it fully, but also by the need to define it and explain it from different theoretical and religious positions. Currently, the contemporary subject and his notion of happiness have been framed by different types of government, which not only ranging from behavioral patterns or beauty, but also from religious and psychological practices that promise to guide you through the path of redemption and happiness. For this reason, our research was to examine how contemporary happy subject is constructed from a relationship between two of the busiest ways man use today to feel better about yourself and your environment, wich are coaching and Protestant Christianity. Therefore, based on personal experiences and questions about why people close frequenting these places and manage to be transformed, it was decided to carry out a study ethnographic, by which it could have access to both spaces and achieve immersion area where Christianity and coaching is staged psychology as presented in coaching techniques and discourses used by Christian churches. For this, the immersion experience as a research tool is favored. Therefore the subjectivity of the researchers arises, indeed, which served as a basis to analyze and explore the strategies, tools and speeches that are held in each scenario and thus realize what impact does that observed in the others and ourselves.Psicólogo (a)Pregrad

Promotion of Healthy Habits in University Students: Literature Review

    Get PDF
[EN] The increase in responsibilities, together with the multiple challenges that students face in the university period, has a direct impact on their healthy lifestyles. This literature review describes the benefits of promoting healthy habits in college, highlighting the fundamental role of prevention and promotion. A systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA recommendations, searching for information in the WOS and Scopus databases. On the other hand, a search was carried out within the existing and available grey literature. The review focused on finding information about physical activity, nutrition, and stress (with an emphasis on resilience and academic burnout) in university students. This bibliographic review includes 32 articles and six web pages, containing information on the benefits of physical activity, healthy habits, and health prevention. The information collected in this study shows that university students are exposed to multiple changes during this period, increasing as the academic years progress. At that time, their habits worsen, with low adherence to the Mediterranean diet, low physical activity, and high levels of stress, specifically increasing cases of academic burnout. The establishment of healthy habits during the university period is necessary, observing an improvement in all the variables studied. Prevention has played a fundamental role.S

This is the accepted manuscript of the following article: Saraiva, S., Castro-López, V., Pañeda, C., & Alonso, M. (2017). Synthetic nanocarriers for the delivery of polynucleotides to the eye. European Journal Of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 103, 5-18. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2017.03.001This review is a comprehensive analysis of the progress made so far on the delivery of polynucleotide-based therapeutics to the eye, using synthetic nanocarriers. Attention has been addressed to the capacity of different nanocarriers for the specific delivery of polynucleotides to both, the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, with emphasis on their ability to (i) improve the transport of polynucleotides across the different eye barriers; (ii) promote their intracellular penetration into the target cells; (iii) protect them against degradation and, (iv) deliver them in a long-term fashion way. Overall, the conclusion is that despite the advantages that nanotechnology may offer to the area of ocular polynucleotide-based therapies (especially AS-ODN and siRNA delivery), the knowledge disclosed so far is still limited. This fact underlines the necessity of more fundamental and product-oriented research for making the way of the said nanotherapies towards clinical translationThis work was supported by the European Union's Horizon 2020 - Research and Innovation Framework Programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Grant agreement No. 642028 (NABBA) and by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) under Grant agreement No. RTC-2014-2375-1 (SURFeye)S

Toxic epidermal necrolysis is a rare and severe skin disease, usually induced by drugs, that is characterized by an epidermal detachment that affects more than 30% of the total body surface. It is very important to keep it in mind, for the risk of secondary complications and high mortality. Furosemide is a diuretic of the sulfonamide group, widely used in daily clinical practice, which rarely produces this type of adverse reaction. We present an atypical clinical case of toxic epidermal necrolysis induced by furosemide. It differs from previous cases in the form of presentation, diagnosis and evolution.
