    Images and territorialities of the visual culture of Mendoza

    El presente proyecto de investigación surge del interés por contribuir a la construcción de la historia del arte de Mendoza a partir de las imágenes. Ello supone una nueva posición teórica ya que la noción de "imágenes" en lugar de "obras de arte""refiere a un universo visual diferente. Se trata de un cosmos más amplio y diverso, en el que, como han señalado los numerosos referentes de los estudios visuales o cultura visual, se incluyen tanto las producciones tradicionales como aquellas que habían sido excluidas: pinturas, esculturas, fotografías, ilustraciones, murales, instalaciones, performances, postales, etc. Uno de los problemas principales de la investigación se generó a partir de la preocupación de especialistas de distintas disciplinas y países acerca de la desterritorialización cultural y pérdida de identidades culturales regionales a causa de la globalización. Esta inquietud devino, como contrapartida, en el interés por indagar e interpretar la relación entre las imágenes y su localización para verificar mediante los procesos de apropiaciones de territorios, para rescatar la cultura visual en sus diferentes contenidos y expresiones (social, política, racial, religiosa, sexual, etc.) y sus formas identitarias. La hipótesis de la investigación se afirma en la idea que imágenes han conformado una cultura visual rica, dinámica y cambiante a través del tiempo en la que se expresaron los intereses e identidades culturales de distintos grupos. Con esta investigación se pretende contribuir a rescatar, interpretar, valorizar y difundir las identidades regionales ligadas al territorio de muy diversas formas.The present research project arises from the interest to contribute to the construction of art history in Mendoza as from images. This involves a new theoretical position since the notion of "images" instead of "artwork" applies to a different visual universe. It refers to a much wider and diverse cosmos, in which, as plenty of the many referents of Visual Studies or Visual Culture have pointed put, are included traditional productions as well as those that had been excluded: paints, sculptures, photography, illustrations, murals, installations, performances, postcards, amongst other. One of the research's main problems appeared because of the concern of specialist from different disciplines and countries on the cultural deterritorialization and the loss of cultural regional identities caused by globalization. This worry came, as counterpart, on the interest to inquire and interpret the relationship between images and their localization to verify trough the processes of appropriation of territories, to rescue visual culture in its different contents and expressions (social, political, racial, religious, sexual, etc.) and its forms of identities. The research's hypothesis is insure in the idea that images have conformed a rich, dynamic and changing through time visual culture in which the interests and cultural identities from different groups were expressed. In this research is meant to contribute to rescue, interpret, value and spread regional identities bond to the territory in many diverse ways

    Techno-economic and Life Cycle Assessment of methane production via biogas upgrading and power to gas technology

    International audienceTo decrease the use of fossil fuels and face the energetic demand, the integration of renewable energy is a necessary step. Part of this renewable energy can be supplied by the production of electricity from photovoltaic panels and windfarms. The massive use of these intermittent energies will lead to overproduction periods, and there is consequently a need to convert this surplus of electricity into a storable form of energy. Power-togas (PtG) technology consists in using electricity to convert water into hydrogen by electrolysis, and then to synthetize methane from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Techno-economic and Life Cycle Assessment of methane production via the combination of anaerobic digestion and PtG technology have been applied to sewage sludge valorization. Process studies and equipment design have been addressed considering already available technologies. Sensitivity analyses have been done on biogas upgrading technologies, electricity prices, annual operation time and composition of the electricity mix with also a comparison between PtG and direct injection. It appears that the more the electricity is expensive, the longer the operation time of the methanation process must be to be competitive with injection of methane from biogas. Reduction of electricity consumption of the electrolysis step decreases production costs. Even if the current context does not feature adapted conditions to ensure an economically viable chain, the evolution of the energetic context in the next few years as well as the expected technological improvements will contribute to overall cost reduction. From an environmental point of view, continuous PtG generates more greenhouse gases than direct injection, but intermittent operation with use of renewable electricity can significantly reduce GHG emissions. From an endpoint impacts perspective, impact from continuous PtG are higher than biogas upgrading, but much lower than fossil energy. Future development of low electricity consumption of the electrolysis process, and integration of renewable credits from CO 2 valorization can increase the competitiveness of this technology

    Cognitive Efficacy of Quetiapine in Early-Onset First-Episode Psychosis: A 12-Week Open Label Trial

    Twenty-three adolescents with psychotic disorders, aged from 13 to 18years, participated in a 12-week open label trial (17 adolescents completed the study) in order to examine the impact of quetiapine on clinical status and cognitive functions (encompassing processing speed, attention, short-term memory, long-term memory and executive function). An improvement in Clinical Global Impression and Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (P's≤0.001) was observed. In addition, after controlling for amelioration of symptoms, a significant improvement was observed on one executive function (P=0.044; Trail Making Part B). The remaining cognitive abilities showed stability. In addition, we observed an interaction between quetiapine doses (>300mg/day or <300mg/day) and time, where lower doses showed more improvement in verbal short-term memory (P=0.048), inhibition abilities (P=0.038) and positive symptoms (P=0.020). The neuropsychological functioning of adolescents with psychotic disorders remained mainly stable after 12weeks of treatment with quetiapine. However, lower doses seemed to have a better impact on two components of cognition (inhibition abilities and verbal short-term memory) and on positive symptom

    Specific fibroblastic niches in secondary lymphoid organs orchestrate distinct Notch-regulated immune responses.

    Fibroblast-like cells of secondary lymphoid organs (SLO) are important for tissue architecture. In addition, they regulate lymphocyte compartmentalization through the secretion of chemokines, and participate in the orchestration of appropriate cell-cell interactions required for adaptive immunity. Here, we provide data demonstrating the functional importance of SLO fibroblasts during Notch-mediated lineage specification and immune response. Genetic ablation of the Notch ligand Delta-like (DL)1 identified splenic fibroblasts rather than hematopoietic or endothelial cells as niche cells, allowing Notch 2-driven differentiation of marginal zone B cells and of Esam(+) dendritic cells. Moreover, conditional inactivation of DL4 in lymph node fibroblasts resulted in impaired follicular helper T cell differentiation and, consequently, in reduced numbers of germinal center B cells and absence of high-affinity antibodies. Our data demonstrate previously unknown roles for DL ligand-expressing fibroblasts in SLO niches as drivers of multiple Notch-mediated immune differentiation processes

    Maternal outcomes and risk factors for COVID-19 severity among pregnant women.

    Pregnant women may be at higher risk of severe complications associated with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which may lead to obstetrical complications. We performed a case control study comparing pregnant women with severe coronavirus disease 19 (cases) to pregnant women with a milder form (controls) enrolled in the COVI-Preg international registry cohort between March 24 and July 26, 2020. Risk factors for severity, obstetrical and immediate neonatal outcomes were assessed. A total of 926 pregnant women with a positive test for SARS-CoV-2 were included, among which 92 (9.9%) presented with severe COVID-19 disease. Risk factors for severe maternal outcomes were pulmonary comorbidities [aOR 4.3, 95% CI 1.9-9.5], hypertensive disorders [aOR 2.7, 95% CI 1.0-7.0] and diabetes [aOR2.2, 95% CI 1.1-4.5]. Pregnant women with severe maternal outcomes were at higher risk of caesarean section [70.7% (n = 53/75)], preterm delivery [62.7% (n = 32/51)] and newborns requiring admission to the neonatal intensive care unit [41.3% (n = 31/75)]. In this study, several risk factors for developing severe complications of SARS-CoV-2 infection among pregnant women were identified including pulmonary comorbidities, hypertensive disorders and diabetes. Obstetrical and neonatal outcomes appear to be influenced by the severity of maternal disease

    Prevalence, associated factors and outcomes of pressure injuries in adult intensive care unit patients: the DecubICUs study

Epidemiologic data is however unavailable. We aimed to provide an international picture of the extent of pressure injuries and factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries in adult ICU patients. Methods: International 1-day point-prevalence study; follow-up for outcome assessment until hospital discharge (maximum 12 weeks). Factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injury and hospital mortality were assessed by generalised linear mixed-effects regression analysis. Results: Data from 13,254 patients in 1117 ICUs (90 countries) revealed 6747 pressure injuries; 3997 (59.2%) were ICU-acquired. Overall prevalence was 26.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.9–27.3). ICU-acquired prevalence was 16.2% (95% CI 15.6–16.8). Sacrum (37%) and heels (19.5%) were most affected. Factors independently associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries were older age, male sex, being underweight, emergency surgery, higher Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, Braden score 3 days, comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency), organ support (renal replacement, mechanical ventilation on ICU admission), and being in a low or lower-middle income-economy. Gradually increasing associations with mortality were identified for increasing severity of pressure injury: stage I (odds ratio [OR] 1.5; 95% CI 1.2–1.8), stage II (OR 1.6; 95% CI 1.4–1.9), and stage III or worse (OR 2.8; 95% CI 2.3–3.3). Conclusion: Pressure injuries are common in adult ICU patients. ICU-acquired pressure injuries are associated with mainly intrinsic factors and mortality. Optimal care standards, increased awareness, appropriate resource allocation, and further research into optimal prevention are pivotal to tackle this important patient safety threat
