String Parton Models in Geant4
Dual parton and quark gluon string model are the by now almost standard
theoretical techniques by which one can arrive at precision description of high
energy, soft, inclusive reactions. These reactions make the part of jets at
energies that contribute strongly to discovery channels such as HWWjj, or
search for compositeness at the highest transverse momenta. The above modeling
approach is available with Geant4 for nucleon induced reactions since the first
release. Its object oriented design and parameter set was recently extended to
allow for simulation of pion and kaon induced reactions, as well as heavy ion
reactions. We will briefly describe the theory and algorithmic approaches that
underly the modeling, show the object oriented designs and component structure
of the string parton sub-systems of Geant4, present validation/verification
results pertaining to these models, as well as results concerning their usage

The Geant4 Hadronic Verification Suite for the Cascade Energy Range
A Geant4 hadronic process verification suite has been designed to test and
optimize Geant4 hadronic models in the cascade energy range. It focuses on
quantities relevant to the LHC radiation environment and spallation source
targets. The general structure of the suite is presented, including the user
interface, stages of verification, management of experimental data, event
generation, and comparison of results to data. Verification results for the

A persistent object manager for HEP
We propose to perform research in the area of a Persistant Object Manager for HEP. Persistant Objects are those which continue to exist upon process termination and may be accessed by other processes. It is expected that any system based upon this research will work primarily but not necessarily exclusively in an Object Oriented environment. Target applications include follow on or replacement products for existing packages such as GEANT, HEPDB, FATMEN, BHBOOK, experiment specific code event storage. In this respect, it is expected that more functionality will be required than simple persistance. It will be one of the goals of the of the project to define this extra layer of functionality. Strong emphasis will be placed on the use of standards and/or existing solutions wherever possible
Influence of damping on the excitation of the double giant resonance
We study the effect of the spreading widths on the excitation probabilities
of the double giant dipole resonance. We solve the coupled-channels equations
for the excitation of the giant dipole resonance and the double giant dipole
resonance. Taking Pb+Pb collisions as example, we study the resulting effect on
the excitation amplitudes, and cross sections as a function of the width of the

Impact of a carbohydrate mouth rinse on corticomotor excitability after mental fatigue in healthy college-aged subjects
Mental Fatigue (MF) has been associated with reduced physical performance but the mechanisms underlying this result are unclear. A reduction in excitability of the corticomotor system is a way mental fatigue could negatively impact physical performance. Carbohydrate (CHO) mouth rinse (MR) has been shown to increase corticomotor excitability. The purpose of this study was to determine if CHO MR impacts corticomotor excitability after MF. Fifteen subjects (nine females, six males; age = 23 ± 1 years; height = 171 ± 2 cm; body mass = 69 ± 3 kg; BMI = 23.8 ± 0.7) completed two sessions under different MR conditions (Placebo (PLAC), 6.4% glucose (CHO)) separated by at least 48 h and applied in a double-blinded randomized fashion. Motor-evoked potential (MEP) of the left first dorsal interosseous (FDI) was determined by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) before and after MF. Perceived MF was recorded before and after the MF task using a 100 mm visual analog scale (VAS). MF was greater following PLAC (+30.4 ± 4.0 mm) than CHO (+19.4 ± 3.9 mm) ( = 0.005). MEP was reduced more following PLAC (-16.6 ± 4.4%) than CHO (-3.7 ± 4.7%) ( < 0.001). CHO MR was successful at attenuating the reduction in corticomotor excitability after MF. Carbohydrate mouth rinse may be a valuable tool at combating the negative consequences of mental fatigue
Comparison of Geant4 hadron generation with data from the interactions with beryllium nuclei of +8.9 GeV/c protons and pions, and of -8 GeV/c pions
Hadron generation in the Geant4 simulation tool kit is compared with
inclusive spectra of secondary protons and pions from the interactions with
beryllium nuclei of +8.9 GeV/c protons and pions, and of -8.0 GeV/c pions. The
data were taken in 2002 at the CERN Proton Synchrotron with the HARP
spectrometer. We report on significant disagreements between data and simulated
data especially in the polar-angle distributions of secondary protons and

Fairness, envy, guilt and greed: building equity considerations into agency theory
In this article we examine the extent to which fairness considerations are salient to senior executives, and consider the implications for agency theory, tournament theory and the design of top-management incentives. We look for patterns in a unique data set of senior executive preferences and seek explanations for these patterns using a model of fairness first advanced by Fehr and Schmidt in 1999. We propose a number of amendments to Fehr and Schmidt’s model. We challenge some of the standard tenets of agency theory and tournament theory, demonstrating why equity considerations should be taken into account. We add to the growing literature on behavioural agency theory
Forward production of charged pions with incident on nuclear targets measured at the CERN PS
Measurements of the double-differential production cross-section
in the range of momentum 0.5 \GeVc \leq p \le 8.0 \GeVc and angle 0.025 \rad
\leq \theta \le 0.25 \rad in interactions of charged pions on beryllium,
carbon, aluminium, copper, tin, tantalum and lead are presented. These data
represent the first experimental campaign to systematically measure forward
pion hadroproduction. The data were taken with the large acceptance HARP
detector in the T9 beam line of the CERN PS. Incident particles, impinging on a
5% nuclear interaction length target, were identified by an elaborate system of
beam detectors. The tracking and identification of the produced particles was
performed using the forward spectrometer of the HARP detector. Results are
obtained for the double-differential cross-sections mainly at four incident pion beam
momenta (3 \GeVc, 5 \GeVc, 8 \GeVc and 12 \GeVc). The measurements are compared
with the GEANT4 and MARS Monte Carlo simulationComment: to be published on Nuclear Physics

Integrated Programs for Aerospace Vehicle Design (IPAD) system design requirements are given. The information is based on the IPAD User Requirements Document (D6-IPAD-70013-D) and the Integrated Information Processing Requirements Document (D6-IPAD-70012-D). General information about IPAD and a list of the system design requirements that are to be satisfied by the IPAD system are given.
