The vertiginous advance of society involves the necessity to implement procedures that allow the citizens to able to adapt to the new social requirements. This fact determines the task of educating the new generations in the family to allow their inclusion to this new social dynamic which is constantly changing. In view of this situation, parents are showing certain lacks in their formation so as to face the task of educating their children with efficient and coherent criteria. In the Area of Evolutionary Psychology, belonging to the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Pontifical University we try to provide a response to this kind or formative needs by developing a Plan for the Parents" Formation, which is set in the context of our University and which has a preventive-educational nature, being its basic aim to reflect on the educational practices in the family. " The purpose of this project is to offer the parents appropriate models in the existing educational practice and to contribute to the demand of the schools in Salamanca in order to favour the relation between the family and the school. Besides, so that parents can attend the sessions, this Plan is complemented with the establishment of a Classroom for Child Educational Activities, where varied ludic acti vities are carried out, contributing to the integration of children in society in the context of a relaxed environment

However, trials in Catalonia have been unsuccessful. This study was aimed at researching professionals' perceptions regarding the usefulness of digital brief interventions in overcoming traditional barriers of face-to-face Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment and new barriers posed by the use of digital brief interventions. Professionals who participated in the Effectiveness of primary care based Facilitated Access to alcohol Reduction website (EFAR)digital brief intervention clinical trial were surveyed on April 2017 on the following areas: (1) satisfaction, (2) usefulness, (3) perceived ability of digital interventions on overcoming traditional barriers and (4) perceived new barriers of digital interventions. Sixty-eight professionals completed the survey. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using the level of professional engagement with the project as the dependent variable, barriers as independent variables and socio-demographic characteristics as covariables. Of all professionals, 79.4 percent were satisfied with their participation in the project, but only 26.5 percent perceived the website as useful. Low engagement was associated with the perceived lack of feedback (0.22; 95% confidence interval: 0.05 -0.88), perception that it was difficult to use among the elderly(0.22; 95 confidence interval: 0.05 -0.091) and among low socioeconomic population (0.14; 95% confidence interval: 0.03 -0.64). The majority of the participants indicated that digital brief intervention for risky drinkers succeeded in overcoming most of the traditional barriers. However, new barriers emerged as difficulties for implementing digital brief interventions in the Catalan Primary Health Care System. Usefulness perception is a key factor, which must be addressed in any proposed intervention in primary care. This work was funded by project PI042924 integrated in the National R+D+I and funded by the Carlos III Health Institute-Deputy General Assessment and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) (http://www.isciii.es). The intricate relationship between hippocampal neurogenesis dysregulation and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, as well as depression, has sparked an urgent call for innovative therapeutic strategies. Our groundbreaking study delves into the interaction of Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and galanin (GAL) agonists, two neuromodulatory systems with a substantial presence in the limbic system, and their potential neurogenic impact on both the dorsal and ventral hippocampus. Through meticulous examination of the subchronic e"ects of NPY Y1 (Y1R) and GAL2 (GALR2) agonists on hippocampal cell proliferation, survival, and neuroprotective factor expression, we reveal a fascinating cascade of cellular responses. These include increased cell proliferation (PCNA), enhanced hippocampal cell survival (BrdU), and induction of neuroprotective factors (BDNF). Our functional assessment showcases the resulting improvements in spatial memory performance in the object-in-place task and antidepressant-like e"ects in the forced swimming test. These outcomes are attributed to the synergistic interaction between Y1R and GALR2 receptors, which promote neuronal survival and neurite outgrowth in hippocampal cells. This pioneering research paves the way for the development of heterobivalent agonist pharmacophores that target Y1R-GALR2 heterocomplexes. By acting on neuronal precursor cells in the dentate gyrus of the dorsal hippocampus, these novel compounds hold immense promise as transformative therapies for cognitive and a"ective impairments in neurodegenerative and depressive diseases.Supported by the Proy_Excel_2021_0613 (Junta de Andalucía) and Proyecto Puente (B4-2021) (UMA), Spain to MN. Combined kinetic analysis of plasma SARS‐CoV‐2 RNAemia, Nucleocapsid (N)‐antigenemia and virus‐specific antibodies may help ascertain the role of antibodies in preventing virus dissemination in COVID‐19 patients. We performed this analysis in a cohort of 71 consecutive critically ill COVID‐19 patients (49 male; median age, 65 years) using RT‐PCR assay, lateral flow immunochromatography method and receptor binding domain (RBD) and N‐based immunoassays. A total of 338 plasma specimens collected at a median of 12 days after symptoms onset were available for analyses. SARS‐ CoV‐2 RNAemia and N‐antigenemia were detected in 37 and 43 specimens from 26 (36.5%) and 30 (42.2%) patients, respectively. Free RNA was the main biological form of SARS‐CoV‐2 found in plasma. The detection rate for both viral components was associated with viral load at the upper respiratory tract. Median time to SARS‐CoV‐2‐RBD antibody detection was 14 days (range, 4-38) from onset of symptoms. Decreasing antibody levels were observed in parallel to increasing levels of both RNAemia and N‐antigenemia, yet overall a fairly modest inverse correlation (Rho = −0.35; P < 0.001) was seen between virus RNAemia and SARS‐CoV‐2‐RBD antibody levels. The data cast doubts on a major involvement of antibodies in virus clearance from the bloodstream within the timeframe examined

Tau Protein is Associated with Longitudinal Memory Decline in Cognitively Healthy Subjects with Normal Alzheimer's Disease Cerebrospinal Fluid Biomarker Levels

Background: We investigated a sample of cognitively healthy subjects with normal Alzheimer's disease (AD) cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarker levels to identify the earliest variables related to longitudinal memory changes. Objective: Employing a new highly demanding learning and memory test (the Ancient Farming Equipment Test; AFE-T), we aimed to investigate whether a biomarker related to neurodegeneration (i.e., CSF tau) was associated with longitudinal memory decline. Methods: Thirty-two cognitively and biologically normal (CBN) subjects underwent MRI, neuropsychological assessment, and the AFE-T at baseline and 18 months later. To explore the relationship between cognitive performance and relevant factors, a linear model was set up. For a secondary analysis that further explore the effect of tau, the subjects were divided into CBN-Tau↓ (tau  228.64 pg/ml; n = 16). We also performed voxel-based morphometry (VBM) to identify regions of grey matter volume that would predict both baseline and longitudinal cognitive performance. Results: Our main finding was an association between CSF tau and longitudinal memory decline measured with AFE-T (B = -0.17, p < 0.05; r = -0.414; p < 0.01), and further analyses showed different evolvement between subgroups, with an accelerated decline in individuals with higher tau (F(1,31) = 8.37; p < 0.01). VBM results suggested that AFE-T performance is related to grey matter volume in a medial temporal, middle frontal, and posterior cerebellar network at baseline, and that there are strategic brain areas driving the longitudinal cognitive changes. Conclusions: The present findings provide evidence for structural and biological markers linked to cognitive aging by highlighting the role of tau, a marker of neurodegeneration, which can be related with the earliest memory changes in healthy subjects

Epigenetic mechanisms of particulate matter exposure: air pollution and hazards on human health

    Get PDF
Environmental pollution nowadays has not only a direct correlation with human health changes but a direct social impact. Epidemiological studies have evidenced the increased damage to human health on a daily basis because of damage to the ecological niche. Rapid urban growth and industrialized societies importantly compromise air quality, which can be assessed by a notable accumulation of air pollutants in both the gas and the particle phases. Of them, particulate matter (PM) represents a highly complex mixture of organic and inorganic compounds of the most variable size, composition, and origin. PM being one of the most complex environmental pollutants, its accumulation also varies in a temporal and spatial manner, which challenges current analytical techniques used to investigate PM interactions. Nevertheless, the characterization of the chemical composition of PM is a reliable indicator of the composition of the atmosphere, the quality of breathed air in urbanized societies, industrial zones and consequently gives support for pertinent measures to avoid serious health damage. Epigenomic damage is one of the most promising biological mechanisms of air pollution-derived carcinogenesis. Therefore, this review aims to highlight the implication of PM exposure in diverse molecular mechanisms driving human diseases by altered epigenetic regulation. The presented findings in the context of pan-organic cancer, fibrosis, neurodegeneration and metabolic diseases may provide valuable insights into the toxicity effects of PM components at the epigenomic level and may serve as biomarkers of early detection for novel targeted therapies
