Agradezco su apoyo de financiamiento de este artículo al SIEA.The objective of this investigation is to analyze the academic performance (RA) of the ninth degree students of the socio-economical careers in the Centro Universitario UAEM Valle de Mexico (CUUAEMVM). For that purpose, we have estimated a qualitative response model having an independent variable that is a measure of the RA and dependent (explanatory) variables classified as academic, socio-economic and socio-demographic. From the analysis, we found that the academic variables were statistically significant especially: the failed (retaken) courses, the number of courses were taken, career selection, professional expectations and hours to study after classroom. As a conclusion, we may say that these variables explain a high or low academic performing. The improving of such performance must be centered on the application of educational (institutional) policies, particularly the decrease of retakeor failed courses, and the review of the bulk courses to take in a semesterSIE

Education as investment in human capital is an economic growth generator, to achieve that for a country it is needed to analyze those components of a national educational system in our analysis about the Mexican educational system, we have considered information that let us to visualize the results on the application of those programs aligned with the OECD, ISCED-UNESCO standards, which let us have a perspective of the no satisfactory results shown in the text of this publication, doing the comparative analysis of national indicators vs. the OECD as a whole, considering variables as annual PIB assignation of resources, the PISA evaluation results, the salaries paid to teachers and the annual government expense by student. Our sources of information are from confident international institutions (OECD and UNESCO), therefore our analysis is also confident and for that we made it by using the qualitative focus (Hernández, 2010), defining our extent in this article as an interpretation of how some variables as application and resources allocation to educational programs and other factors have addressed to the nondesired results exposed in the text of this articleLa educación considerada como inversión en capital humano es un generador de crecimiento económico; para que en un país pueda lograrse, es necesario el análisis de los componentes que integran un sistema educativo nacional.

Effect of Static Magnetic Fields on the Composition of Marine Biofouling in Seawater Transportation Pipelines

The use of seawater for mining purposes in Chile has progressively increased in recent years as fast as the interest on the negative effects of biofouling on the inner part of pipelines used to transport seawater. To prevent biofouling, chemical antifouling compounds are traditionally used, thus, causing negative environmental impacts. The aim of this research has, therefore, been to evaluate the efficiency of static magnetic fields (SMF) generators to mitigate the biofouling. Hence, experimental activities have been conducted on high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes equipped with neodymium magnets during two experimental periods in the year of 2019, i.e., autumn–winter (A–W) and spring–summer (S–S), and under two types of SMF, i.e., continuous-type (PCS) and pulse-type (PPS). Physicochemical parameters and cell viability of microorganisms composing the biofilm were investigated. Metagenomic analyses on biofilm were conducted as well. The results showed that the cell viability was the highest, i.e., 757,780 cells/cm2, during S–S and the lowest, i.e., 349,151 cells/cm2, in A–W, both under PCS. In S–S, as well as A–W, biofilm was characterized for the most abundant eukaryotic operational taxonomic units (OTUs) under PPS conditions. The presence of OTUs, such as Articiflavibacter spp., Chaetonotida spp. and Desmodorida spp., was observed only from SMF tests. This research was funded by ANID/FONDEF/IDEA, grant number ID15I10487, and, in part, by the Programa Semilleros de Investigación: “Caracterización de una línea base para el análisis y determinación de los componentes celulares”, by the Fondo para el Desarrollo en investigación científica y/o tecnológica de actividades de titulación de pregrado 2018: “Producción de metabolitos de alto valor económico mediante exposición a un campo magnético estático tipo continuo y tipo pulso en las microalgas Scenedesmus obliquus y Nannochloropsis gaditana”, by Programa Asignación año 2021 de Asistentes de investigación de la Universidad de Antofagasta código ANT20992 and partially supported by “Antonio Panico visit at the Universidad de Antofagasta” and supported by MINEDUC-UA project code ANT1999

Antioxidant and Hepatoprotective Activity of a New Tablets Formulation from Tamarindus indica

Hepatotoxic chemicals damage liver cells primarily by producing reactive oxygen species. The decoction of the leaves of Tamarindus indica L. is used for liver disorders. In this work we evaluated the hepatoprotective activity of a tablet formulation of this plant. Thirty-five Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups (n=7). First group (I) is control group, fed with standard diet. Groups II to V (hepatotoxic groups) were subjected to a subcutaneous injection of CCl4 (0.5 mL/kg). Group II was negative control, fed with standard diet; group III was subjected to administration of Silymarin 150 mg/kg and groups IV and V were treated with tablets in dose of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg, respectively. Lipid peroxidation and the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and reduced glutathione were evaluated. Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, gamma-glutamine transferase, alkaline phosphatase, and a lipid profile were evaluated too. The tablets inhibit lipid peroxidation. The redox balance (SOD-CAT-GSH) remains normal in the experimental groups treated with tablets. The liver function using dose of 200 mg/kg of tablets was better than the other experimental groups. These results justify, scientifically, the ethnobotanical use of the leaves of Tamarindus indica L

Reductions in biomass accumulation, photosynthesis in situ and net carbon balance are the costs of protecting Vitis vinifera ‘Semillon’ grapevines from heat stress with shade covering

Shade cloth can be used to protect grapevines from high temperatures. However, the resulting low light intensity is shown to reduce photosynthesis, leading to lower carbon allocation to vegetative growth and sugar accumulation. Protection from heat by shading is, therefore, costly for the carbon economy of the vines

    Primary cerebellar glioblastoma multiforme

Glioblastoma multiforme in adults arising in the cerebellum is a rare tumor, well documented in only 13 cases in the literature. We report a fourteenth case, an 80-year-old female, and reassess the clinical and CT aspects of this tumor based on a review of the world's literature. The median age of patients is 53 years with a median survival of three months, which is less than adult cerebral hemisphere malignant gliomas.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/45390/1/11060_2004_Article_BF00151226.pd

Astrocytes in brain tumours. Differentiation or trapping

    No full text
Adult astrocytes have been described in several types of gliomas, being accepted as high differentiated cells. Their presence is specially important concerning the concept of undifferentiated neuroectodermal tumours (PNET). We have studied two series of brain tumors and compared and contrasted them with silver impregnation (89 cases) and GFAP (127 cases). These are our conclusions: these astrocytes show the same morphology not only in neuroectodermal tumours, but also in CNS parenchyma around meningiomas, metastasis and brain lymphomas; many of these astrocytes are mature, normal cells with involutive features, lying among tumoral cells without transitional stages; their presence is directly related to a prominent peritumoral gliosis, a high proliferation rate and an infiltrating growth. On this basis, it is suggested that most of them are astrocytes belonging to the invaded CNS tissue and not true tumoral cells
