Objectives: To design and validate a questionnaire to measure visual symptoms related to exposure to computers in the workplace. Study Design and Setting: Our computer vision syndrome questionnaire (CVS-Q) was based on a literature review and validated through discussion with experts and performance of a pretest, pilot test, and retest. Content validity was evaluated by occupational health, optometry, and ophthalmology experts. Rasch analysis was used in the psychometric evaluation of the questionnaire. Criterion validity was determined by calculating the sensitivity and specificity, receiver operator characteristic curve, and cutoff point. Testeretest repeatability was tested using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and concordance by Cohen’s kappa (k). Results: The CVS-Q was developed with wide consensus among experts and was well accepted by the target group. It assesses the frequency and intensity of 16 symptoms using a single rating scale (symptom severity) that fits the Rasch rating scale model well. The questionnaire has sensitivity and specificity over 70% and achieved good testeretest repeatability both for the scores obtained [ICC 5 0.802; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.673, 0.884] and CVS classification (k 5 0.612; 95% CI: 0.384, 0.839). Conclusion: The CVS-Q has acceptable psychometric properties, making it a valid and reliable tool to control the visual health of computer workers, and can potentially be used in clinical trials and outcome research. This study was supported by the Spanish National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (INSHT) (Grant number: 07/606). Introduction: The European Space of Higher Education (ESHE) provides a perfect setting to explore some of the university students’ personality variables. Personality characteristic can become great predictors of behaviours, that is the reason why those characteristic which can represent necessary aspects and skills for an effective and enterprising professional performance. Goal: Analysing particular psychological characteristic from a sample of the university community originally from UJI with the intention of checking university students’ personality profiles and verifying if there are significant differences from the different schools within the university. Method: The evaluation for analysing the aforementioned variables was devised through the Revised neo Personality Inventory (R-NEO-PI). We were in contact with teachers from the different schools at UJI in order to ensure their cooperation. The R-NEo-PI was distributed to a sample of 107 university students. Results: The averages which have been obtained in personality factors and aspects, show that the personality profile from our sample is: High Neuroticism, Medium Extraversion and Openness and Low Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. We have obtained significant differences in favour of the School of Human and Social Sciences with regard to Openness and Agreeableness factors, Feelings and Values facets from Openness factor and Frankness and Modesty facets from Agreeableness factor. Conclusions: The students from the School of Human and Social Sciences got scores with significant differences in relation to the rest of the schools in some personality characteristic linked to social competence. It will be necessary establishing strategies in higher education in order to guarantee, to all students, the acquisition of social skills for their future labor entry

Introduction: Numerous advances with regard to the specific treatments for emotional disorders have been achieved over the last few decades. Yet, they have many limitations. In order to overcome them, Barlow et al. have carried out a Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP). Goal: Improving the cognitive behavioral treatments for emotional disorders bearing in mind the axis of efficacy, as well as the axis of effectiveness and efficiency from the Transdiagnostic perspective used in group format. Method: With a sample formed by 12 participants and after having administered the evaluation protocol (pre-test), the group therapy was carried out applying this protocol. The evaluation was done again after the intervention (post-test). Results: The differences of pre-post averages have turned out statistically significant in the measures that evaluate depression as well as those that evaluate anxiety. Furthermore, 75 % of the participants stopped having the criteria for their principal diagnosis in the post-test evaluation. Conclusions: The preliminary data show the efficacy of this protocol in the reduction of the diagnostic criteria and also in the clinical improvements obtained. Moreover, the UP in group format was valued by all participants as «very useful» and «satisfactory»

Background: The high number of computer workers wearing contact lenses raises the question whether the sum of these two risk factors for eye health may cause a worsening of Computer Vision Syndrome. The aim of this review is to synthesize the knowledge about ocular and visual alterations related with computer use in contact lens wearers. Methods: International review of scientific papers (2003-2013) in Spanish and English, using Scoping Review method, in Medline through PubMed and in Scopus. Results: The initial search provided 114 references, after applying inclusion/exclusion criteria six of them were included. All of them reveal that symptoms when using computer are more prevalent in contact lens wearers, with values of symptoms presentation prevalence ranging from 95.0% to 16.9% in wearers and from 57.5% to 9.9% in non-wearers, and four times more likely to develop dry eye [OR: 4.07 (95% CI: 3.52 to 4.71)]. Conclusion: Computer workers suffer more ocular and visual disturbances if they also are contact lens users, but studies are few and non conclusive. Likewise, further research regarding contact lens type and their conditions of use, both in symptoms and tear quality and ocular surface are needed. Silicone hydrogel lenses are associated with more comfort.
