Real-time performance of mechatronic PZT module using active vibration feedback control
This paper proposes an innovative mechatronic piezo-actuated module to control vibrations in modern machine tools. Vibrations represent one of the main issues that seriously compromise the quality of the workpiece. The active vibration control (AVC) device is composed of a host part integrated with sensors and actuators synchronized by a regulator; it is able to make a self-assessment and adjust to alterations in the environment. In particular, an innovative smart actuator has been designed and developed to satisfy machining requirements during active vibration control. This study presents the mechatronic model based on the kinematic and dynamic analysis of the AVC device. To ensure a real time performance, a H2-LQG controller has been developed and validated by simulations involving a machine tool, PZT actuator and controller models. The Hardware in the Loop (HIL) architecture is adopted to control and attenuate the vibrations. A set of experimental tests has been performed to validate the AVC module on a commercial machine tool. Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder With Regression Exhibit a Different Profile in Plasma Cytokines and Adhesion Molecules Compared to Children Without Such Regression
In the etiopathogenesis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it has
been suggested that a proinflammatory condition, as well as an alteration in
adhesion molecules in the early stages of neurodevelopment, may play a role in the
pathophysiology of the disorder. This study set out to evaluate the plasma levels of certain
inflammatory cytokines, adhesion molecules, and growth factors in a sample of pediatric
patients with ASD and compare them to the levels in a control group of healthy children. Higher levels of NGF were observed in the ASD group compared with the
levels in the control group (p < 0.05). However, in the analysis of the ASD subgroups,
lower plasma levels of NCAM and higher levels of NGF were found in the group of
ASD children without developmental regression compared to the levels in the group of
typically-developing children. These results suggest differences that could be related to different
pathophysiological mechanisms in ASD. There is not a specific profile for the expression
of relevant plasma cytokines, adhesion molecules or growth factors in children with
ASD compared with that in typically-developing children. However, in the ANMR and
AMR subgroups, some of the adhesion molecules and neuronal growth factors show

Synthesis, crystal structure, and DFT study of two new dinuclear copper(I) complexes bearing Ar-BIAN ligands functionalized with NO2 groups
Two new bis(aryl-imino)-acenaphthene, Ar-BIAN (Ar = 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl = mes) ligands, bearing the NO2
group in the naphthalene moiety of the iminoacenaphthene at para- (5-NO2) and meta- (4-NO2) position, of formulations 1,2-bis(mes-imino)-5-nitroacenaphthene, 1, and 1,2-bis(mes-imino)-4-nitroacenaphthene, 2, were synthesized. Their respective dinuclear iodide bridged copper(I) complexes [Cu2(μ-I)2(mes-BIAN-5-NO2)2], 3 and [Cu2(μ-I)2(mes-BIAN-4-NO2)2], 4, were obtained in good yields by treatment with an equimolar amount
of CuI. All compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FTIR, UV/Vis spectroscopy. DFT calculations helped to understand the different molecular structure observed in the crystals of 3 and 4 and the determining role of packing forces. TDDFT revealed that the
absorption bands in the visible were essentially MLCT (Metal to Ligand Charge Transfer), with some n→π* character (intra ligand). Vorstellung des Studienreformforums: Bisherige Arbeit und aktuelle Beiträge
Das Studienreform-Forum befasst sich einerseits mit der Systematisierung von Studienreformen und Studienreform-Vorhaben, andererseits mit Grundsatzfragen der Studienreform. Beides zusammen bildet die Grundlage zur Weiterentwicklung von Studiengängen.Im Jahr 2020 hat das Studienreform-Forum erneut zur Einsendung von Beiträgen zu diesen Fragen aufgerufen. Angesichts der Pandemie wurde dieser Aufruf verlängert und parallel eine Initiative zur Dokumentation und Auswertung der Lehre unter Pandemiebedingungen gestartet, deren Ergebnisse mittelfristig mit den übrigen Beiträgen in Bezug gesetzt werden sollen.Dieser Artikel dokumentiert die auf den Call for Papers eingesandten Beiträge
The β3-Adrenergic Receptor Agonist Mirabegron Improves Glucose Homeostasis in Obese Humans
BACKGROUND. Beige adipose tissue is associated with improved glucose homeostasis in mice. Adipose tissue contains β3-adrenergic receptors (β3-ARs), and this study was intended to determine whether the treatment of obese, insulin-resistant humans with the β3-AR agonist mirabegron, which stimulates beige adipose formation in subcutaneous white adipose tissue (SC WAT), would induce other beneficial changes in fat and muscle and improve metabolic homeostasis.
METHODS. Before and after β3-AR agonist treatment, oral glucose tolerance tests and euglycemic clamps were performed, and histochemical analysis and gene expression profiling were performed on fat and muscle biopsies. PET-CT scans quantified brown adipose tissue volume and activity, and we conducted in vitro studies with primary cultures of differentiated human adipocytes and muscle.
RESULTS. The clinical effects of mirabegron treatment included improved oral glucose tolerance (P \u3c 0.01), reduced hemoglobin A1c levels (P = 0.01), and improved insulin sensitivity (P = 0.03) and β cell function (P = 0.01). In SC WAT, mirabegron treatment stimulated lipolysis, reduced fibrotic gene expression, and increased alternatively activated macrophages. Subjects with the most SC WAT beiging showed the greatest improvement in β cell function. In skeletal muscle, mirabegron reduced triglycerides, increased the expression of PPARγ coactivator 1 α (PGC1A) (P \u3c 0.05), and increased type I fibers (P \u3c 0.01). Conditioned media from adipocytes treated with mirabegron stimulated muscle fiber PGC1A expression in vitro (P \u3c 0.001).
CONCLUSION. Mirabegron treatment substantially improved multiple measures of glucose homeostasis in obese, insulin-resistant humans. Since β cells and skeletal muscle do not express β3-ARs, these data suggest that the beiging of SC WAT by mirabegron reduces adipose tissue dysfunction, which enhances muscle oxidative capacity and improves β cell function.

Effect of Polydispersity and Anisotropy in Colloidal and Protein Solutions: an Integral Equation Approach
Application of integral equation theory to complex fluids is reviewed, with
particular emphasis to the effects of polydispersity and anisotropy on their
structural and thermodynamic properties. Both analytical and numerical
solutions of integral equations are discussed within the context of a set of
minimal potential models that have been widely used in the literature. While
other popular theoretical tools, such as numerical simulations and density
functional theory, are superior for quantitative and accurate predictions, we
argue that integral equation theory still provides, as in simple fluids, an
invaluable technique that is able to capture the main essential features of a
complex system, at a much lower computational cost. In addition, it can provide
a detailed description of the angular dependence in arbitrary frame, unlike
numerical simulations where this information is frequently hampered by
insufficient statistics. Applications to colloidal mixtures, globular proteins

Chromosome alterations in human hepatocellular carcinomas correlate with aetiology and histological grade – results of an explorative CGH meta-analysis
All available comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH) analyses (n=31, until 12/2003) of human hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs; n=785) and premalignant dysplastic nodules (DNs; n=30) were compiled and correlated with clinical and histological parameters. The most prominent amplifications of genomic material were present in 1q (57.1%), 8q (46.6%), 6p (22.3%), and 17q (22.2%), while losses were most prevalent in 8p (38%), 16q (35.9%), 4q (34.3%), 17p (32.1%), and 13q (26.2%). Deletions of 4q, 16q, 13q, and 8p positively correlated with hepatitis B virus aetiology, while losses of 8p were more frequently found in hepatitis C virus-negative cases. In poorly differentiated HCCs, 13q and 4q were significantly under-represented. Moreover, gains of 1q were positively correlated with the occurrence of all other high-frequency alterations in HCCs. In DNs, amplifications were most frequently present in 1q and 8q, while deletions occurred in 8p, 17p, 5p, 13q, 14q, and 16q. In conclusion, aetiology and dedifferentiation correlate with specific genomic alterations in human HCCs. Gains of 1q appear to be rather early events that may predispose to further chromosomal abnormalities. Thus, explorative CGH meta-analysis generates novel and testable hypotheses regarding the cause and functional significance of genomic alterations in human HCCs
Evaluation of Oxfendazole, Praziquantel and Albendazole against Cystic Echinococcosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial in Naturally Infected Sheep
Cystic Echinococcosis (CE) is a near-cosmopolitan parasitic zoonosis that causes economic losses in many regions of the world. This parasitic infection can be regarded as an emerging or re-emerging disease causing considerable losses in livestock production. CE is produced by the larval cystic stage (hydatid) of the dog parasite Echinococcus granulosus. After infective eggs are ingested, cysts develop mainly in lungs and liver of humans and animals (sheep, cattle, pigs, horses, etc). Infected people may require surgery and/or Albendazole-based chemotherapy. In this study, we evaluated the effects of Oxfendazole alone (an antiparasitic drug used in animals), Oxfendazole plus Praziquantel, and Albendazole plus Praziquantel against hydatid cysts in sheep over 4 to 6 weeks of treatment. All of the treatments in this study were efficacious in killing the larval stages and, therefore, in minimizing the risk of a dog acquiring new infections (taenias). These treatment schemes can be added to control measures in animals and eventually could be used for the treatment of human infection. Further investigations on different schedules of monotherapy or combined chemotherapy are needed, as well as studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Oxfendazole in humans
