Pesanggrahan River has important role and function to support human life and ecosystem existing in river area. Daily human activities that utilize river water and then dispose the sewage/waste into Pesanggrahan River can decrease the air quality. This research aims to analyzed the water quality condition of Pesanggrahan River based on physical and chemical water river factors. The analysis was conducted on eight observation points along the Pesanggrahan River in DKI Jakarta Province by testing the air pollution parameters comparing it to the air quality standard of Governmental Regulation No. 82/2001 on Air Quality Management and Air Pollution Control for Class II and Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 582/1995 on the Establishment of the Allocation and Quality Standards of River Water/Raw Water Agency of Liquid Waste Quality Standard in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta for Group C. The parameters observed in this study are 18 and 6 overall physical parameters (temperature and TSS) and parameters chemical (pH, DO, BOD, and COD). Determination of water quality status using pollution index method compared with air quality standard Governmental Regulation No. 82/2001 class II and Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 582/1995 Group C. The air quality condition of Pesanggrahan River from upstream to downstream at eight points of observation has generally decreased quality according to parameters of TSS, DO, BOD and COD which were not fulfill the quality standard. Based on the status of water quality status of Pesanggrahan River from upstream to downstream has decreased quality with mild to moderate pollutant status

Topological effects in the thermal properties of knotted polymer rings

The topological effects on the thermal properties of several knot configurations are investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. In order to check if the topology of the knots is preserved during the thermal fluctuations we propose a method that allows very fast calculations and can be easily applied to arbitrarily complex knots. As an application, the specific energy and heat capacity of the trefoil, the figure-eight and the 818_1 knots are calculated at different temperatures and for different lengths. Short-range repulsive interactions between the monomers are assumed. The knots configurations are generated on a three-dimensional cubic lattice and sampled by means of the Wang-Landau algorithm and of the pivot method. The obtained results show that the topological effects play a key role for short-length polymers. Three temperature regimes of the growth rate of the internal energy of the system are distinguished.Comment: 7 pages, 12 figures, LaTeX + RevTeX. Background: A recent association study identified a common variant (rs9790517) at 4q24 to be associated with breast cancer risk. Independent association signals and potential functional variants in this locus have not been explored. Methods: We conducted a fine-mapping analysis in 55,540 breast cancer cases and 51,168 controls from the Breast Cancer Association Consortium. Results: Conditional analyses identified two independent association signals among women of European ancestry, represented by rs9790517 [conditional P = 2.51 × 10−4; OR, 1.04; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.02–1.07] and rs77928427 (P = 1.86 × 10−4; OR, 1.04; 95% CI, 1.02–1.07). Functional annotation using data from the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) project revealed two putative functional variants, rs62331150 and rs73838678 in linkage disequilibrium (LD) with rs9790517 (r2 ≄ 0.90) residing in the active promoter or enhancer, respectively, of the nearest gene, TET2. Both variants are located in DNase I hypersensitivity and transcription factor–binding sites. Using data from both The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium (METABRIC), we showed that rs62331150 was associated with level of expression of TET2 in breast normal and tumor tissue. Conclusion: Our study identified two independent association signals at 4q24 in relation to breast cancer risk and suggested that observed association in this locus may be mediated through the regulation of TET2. Impact: Fine-mapping study with large sample size warranted for identification of independent loci for breast cancer risk

Customer emotions in service failure and recovery encounters

    Get PDF
Emotions play a significant role in the workplace, and considerable attention has been given to the study of employee emotions. Customers also play a central function in organizations, but much less is known about customer emotions. This chapter reviews the growing literature on customer emotions in employee–customer interfaces with a focus on service failure and recovery encounters, where emotions are heightened. It highlights emerging themes and key findings, addresses the measurement, modeling, and management of customer emotions, and identifies future research streams. Attention is given to emotional contagion, relationships between affective and cognitive processes, customer anger, customer rage, and individual differences

Purpose: Objective: to evaluate the effect of treatment of bacterial corneal ulcers of varying severity using a combination of antibacterial and corticosteroid drugs.Material and methods. 63 patients with bacterial corneal ulcers of varying severity were treated. The study used a quantitative scale to assess the severity of corneal ulcers. Group 1 — patients with mild corneal ulcers (18 patients); Group 2 — patients with moderate corneal ulcer (17 patients); group 3 — severe corneal ulcer (11 patients); control group — patients with mild corneal ulcer (17 patients). Patients of groups 1, 2 and 3, in addition to the conventional treatment, received Dexamethasone 0.1 % — 0.3 ml in parabulbar injections from the first day of treatment for the entire treatment period. Kr). In addition to the standard ophthalmological examination, all patients were assessed for the ulcer defect using measurements on OCT-POG accessing the parameters of the diameter of the corneal ulcer (d) and the depth coefficient (Kr).Results. The patients in the 1st group received antibacterial treatment and the addition of parabulbar injections of a corticosteroid drug (Dexamethasone). It allowed to decrease the treatment time and the period of hospitalization, promoted faster epithelialization and a reduction in the depth of the ulcer, less coarse scarring of the cornea, allowed to increase the functional results of treatment. The proposed treatment for severe corneal ulcers in 55 % of cases allows to use only conservative treatment. It is possible to obtain moderate opacity with vascularization in 60 % cases, which contributes to the preservation and/or improvement of visual acuity, despite the severity of the inflammatory process without the use of surgical intervention.Conclusion. The proposed treatment, involving the use of the corticosteroid drug Dexamethasone 0.1 % in parabulbar injections of 0.3 ml once daily for a bacterial corneal ulcer of mild severity for, average, 15.0 ± 1.4 days, a bacterial corneal ulcer of moderate severity — 18.0 ± 1.3 days, severe bacterial corneal ulcer — 25.0 ± 4.4 days, seems to be effective if the proposed parameters of the diameter and depth of the corneal ulcer are controlled

Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is a degenerative disease of the cornea characterized by a certain complex of symptoms, including decrease in its sensitivity, spontaneous  instability of the corneal epithelium with a significant deterioration of the healing process. The development of keratopathy  (KP) is accompanied by such complaints as fluctuation of visual acuity, photophobia and lacrimation, and pain of varying severity. Being one of the most densely innervated tissues  of the body, the cornea is sufficiently sensitive to innervation with the development of severe trophic keratitis and ulcers. There are many reasons for the  development  of  neurotrophic corneal changes, and they are not  only in the  sphere of ophthalmologic pathologies. Eye reasons of the NK development can include herpetic keratitis, the condition after certain eye surgeries, wearing of contact lenses.  Non-ophthalmologic reasons for the NK development  of NK include surgeries as the primary reason, prolonged anesthesia, post-acute disorders of cerebral circulation.NK diagnosis is quite hard work, combining a thorough history, a detailed ophthalmic examination with assessment of corneal sensitivity and high-tech diagnostics, using confocal biomicroscopy.Depending on the severity NK are divided into the keratopathy, the confluent corneal erosion and corneal ulcers. The algorithm of NK therapy should be based on the severity of clinical presentations and is aimed at accelerating healing of the cornea and preventing disease progression with the development of deeper layers involvement. Treatment can be both conservative and surgical, such as amniotic membrane transplantation or a conjunctival flap. This article presents data of clinical observations potentially promising in the treatment of NK by Visomitin drug

The clinical course of the adenoviral ophthalmic infection is sufficiently variable. The gravity of clinical manifestations depends on many factors: the strain of the causative agent, dosage of the penetrated agent, the state of the local and systemic immunity of the patient etc. At the same time the number of patients with grave forms of adenoviral ophthalmoinfection is permanently growing. The presence of the systemic allergy in anamnesis classifies this group of adenoviral ophthalmologic infection patients in a group of hyperergic reaction risk group. The duration and gravity of the acute inflammatory process, intensity of the conducted therapy might lead to the development of grave complications
