Nilpotency in type A cyclotomic quotients
We prove a conjecture made by Brundan and Kleshchev on the nilpotency degree
of cyclotomic quotients of rings that categorify one-half of quantum sl(k).Comment: 19 pages, 39 eps files. v3 simplifies antigravity moves and corrects

Astrophysical and Cosmological Tests of Quantum Theory
We discuss several proposals for astrophysical and cosmological tests of
quantum theory. The tests are motivated by deterministic hidden-variables
theories, and in particular by the view that quantum physics is merely an
effective theory of an equilibrium state. The proposed tests involve searching
for nonequilibrium violations of quantum theory in: primordial inflaton
fluctuations imprinted on the cosmic microwave background, relic cosmological
particles, Hawking radiation, photons with entangled partners inside black
holes, neutrino oscillations, and particles from very distant sources.Comment: 25 pages. Amendment to section 7. Contribution to: "The Quantum
Universe", special issue of Journal of Physics A, dedicated to Prof. G.-C.

Quantum decoherence and neutrino data
In this work we perform global fits of microscopic decoherence models of
neutrinos to all available current data, including LSND and KamLAND spectral
distortion results. In previous works on related issues the models used were
supposed to explain LSND results by means of quantum gravity induced
decoherence. However those models were purely phenomenological without any
underlying microscopic basis. It is one of the main purposes of this article to
use detailed microscopic decoherence models with complete positivity, to fit
the data. The decoherence in these models has contributions not only from
stochastic quantum gravity vacua operating as a medium, but also from
conventional uncertainties in the energy of the (anti)neutrino beam. All these
contributions lead to oscillation-length independent damping factors modulating
the oscillatory terms from which one obtains an excellent fit to all available
neutrino data, including LSND and Kamland spectral distortion.Comment: 27 pages, 2 figure
AQFT from n-functorial QFT
There are essentially two different approaches to the axiomatization of
quantum field theory (QFT): algebraic QFT, going back to Haag and Kastler, and
functorial QFT, going back to Atiyah and Segal. More recently, based on ideas
by Baez and Dolan, the latter is being refined to "extended" functorial QFT by
Freed, Hopkins, Lurie and others. The first approach uses local nets of
operator algebras which assign to each patch an algebra "of observables", the
latter uses n-functors which assign to each patch a "propagator of states".
In this note we present an observation about how these two axiom systems are
naturally related: we demonstrate under mild assumptions that every
2-dimensional extended Minkowskian QFT 2-functor ("parallel surface transport")
naturally yields a local net. This is obtained by postcomposing the propagation
2-functor with an operation that mimics the passage from the Schroedinger
picture to the Heisenberg picture in quantum mechanics.
The argument has a straightforward generalization to general
pseudo-Riemannian structure and higher dimensions.Comment: 39 pages; further examples added: Hopf spin chains and asymptotic

Bicategories for boundary conditions and for surface defects in 3-d TFT
We analyze topological boundary conditions and topological surface defects in
three-dimensional topological field theories of Reshetikhin-Turaev type based
on arbitrary modular tensor categories. Boundary conditions are described by
central functors that lift to trivializations in the Witt group of modular
tensor categories. The bicategory of boundary conditions can be described
through the bicategory of module categories over any such trivialization. A
similar description is obtained for topological surface defects. Using string
diagrams for bicategories we also establish a precise relation between special
symmetric Frobenius algebras and Wilson lines involving special defects. We
compare our results with previous work of Kapustin-Saulina and of Kitaev-Kong
on boundary conditions and surface defects in abelian Chern-Simons theories and
in Turaev-Viro type TFTs, respectively.Comment: 34 pages, some figures. v2: references added. v3: typos corrected and
