El objetivo principal de este trabajo es, la realización y presentación con la recopilación e información actualizada en el desprendimiento de retina regmatógeno, para preparar los conocimientos teóricos y prácticos necesarios y poder realizar el trabajo diario con la mayor calidad posible. Los principales objetivos secundarios planteados son: 1. Conocer en qué consiste la patología del desprendimiento de retina y definir la etiología, patogenia, evolución, tratamiento y posibles complicaciones. 2. Describir las funciones del personal de enfermería en los pacientes que acuden a la consulta de oftalmología afectos por esta patología. 3. El estoicismo como moral en Vives, el Brocense y Quevedo

En este artículo nos proponemos abordar algunas de las formas más paradigmáticas en que el estoicismo antiguo fue reconstruido y adoptado como filosofía moral cristiana durante los siglos XVI y XVII. Con este propósito, hemos centrado nuestra atención en tres autores españoles: Luis Vives, Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas y Francisco de Quevedo. Second-order calibration in combination with fluorescence fibre-optic data modelling as a novel approach for monitoring the maturation stage of plums

In this work, non-destructive autofluorescence of plums was employed to study the chlorophylls’ concentration evolution along the maturation process. For that, excitation-emission matrices (EEMs), containing full fluorescence information, were collected with a fibre-optic, assembled to a spectrofluorometer. Data analysis was performed with several second-order multi-way algorithms, such as parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC), multi-way partial least-squares (N-PLS), unfolded partial least-squares (U-PLS), and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least-squares (MCR-ALS). Firstly, the EEMs of each plum, collected each week along the maturation process, were processed with PARAFAC. Two components were used to model the data and the excitation and emission loadings were obtained. Score values for the first PARAFAC component showed a clear evolution with time, increasing during the first five weeks, and decreasing for the last weeks. Also, the chlorophyll concentrations obtained by HPLC analysis, in the skin and the whole fruit, were compared with those obtained with different algorithms mentioned before. Best results were obtained in the case of skin for all algorithms. Similar correlation coefficients (r) were obtained in all cases (0.899 (PARAFAC); 0.940 (U-PLS); 0.936 (N-PLS) and 0.958 (MCR-ALS)). When the elliptical joint confidence region (EJCR), for the slope and intercept, were calculated, the theoretically expected values of 1 and 0, for the slope and intercept, respectively, were included in all ellipses. Wavelet Fisher’s Information Measure of 1=fα Signals

This article defines the concept of wavelet-based Fisher’s information measure (wavelet FIM) and develops a closed-form expression of this measure for 1/fα signals. Wavelet Fisher’s information measure characterizes the complexities associated to 1/fα signals and provides a powerful tool for their analysis. Theoretical and experimental studies demonstrate that this quantity is exponentially increasing for α > 1 (non-stationary signals) and almost constant for α < 1 (stationary signals). Potential applications of wavelet FIM are discussed in some detail and its power and robustness for the detection of structural breaks in the mean embedded in stationary fractional Gaussian noise signals studied.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y TecnologíaFOMIX-COQCY

Value of procalcitonin, C-reactive protein, and neopterin in exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

The identification of biological markers in order to assess different aspects of COPD is an area of growing interest. The objective of this study was to investigate whether levels of procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), and neopterin in COPD patients could be useful in identifying the etiological origin of the exacerbation and assessing its prognosis. We included 318 consecutive COPD patients: 46 in a stable phase, 217 undergoing an exacerbation, and 55 with pneumonia. A serum sample was collected from each patient at the time of being included in the study. A second sample was also collected 1 month later from 23 patients in the exacerbation group. We compared the characteristics, biomarker levels, microbiological findings, and prognosis in each patient group. PCT and CRP were measured using an immunofluorescence assay. Neopterin levels were measured using a competitive immunoassay. PCT and CRP showed significant differences among the three patient groups, being higher in patients with pneumonia, followed by patients with exacerbation (P < 0.0001). For the 23 patients with paired samples, PCT and CRP levels decreased 1 month after the exacerbation episode, while neopterin increased. Neopterin showed significantly lower levels in exacerbations with isolation of pathogenic bacteria, but no differences were found for PCT and CRP. No significant differences were found when comparing biomarker levels according to the Gram result: PCT (P = 0.191), CRP (P = 0.080), and neopterin (P = 0.109). However, median values of PCT and CRP were high for Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and enterobacteria. All biomarkers were higher in patients who died within 1 month after the sample collection than in patients who died later on. According to our results, biomarker levels vary depending on the clinical status. However, the identification of the etiology of infectious exacerbation by means of circulating biomarkers is encouraging, but its main disadvantage is the absence of a microbiological gold standard, to definitively demonstrate their value. High biomarker levels during an exacerbation episode correlate with the short-term prognosis, and therefore their measurement can be useful for COPD management

AL RESCATE DE LA IDENTIDAD SOCIOLINGÜÍSTICA DE LA LENGUA KICHWA EN LA PROVINCIA BOLÍVAR. NECESIDAD Y GESTIÓN

El presente trabajo pretende hacer conciencia sobre la necesidad de fortalecer la identidad sociolingüística de la lengua kichwa a través de la promoción y conservación de su patrimonio en la provincia Bolívar. Se propone con este fin la futura aplicación de un estudio sociolingüístico desde un enfoque sociocultural y psicolingüístico para entender las mutuas influencias e impactos del kichwa en el castellano hablado en la provincia, a partir de los cuales puedan generarse nuevos conocimientos que contribuyan al enriquecimiento de ambas lenguas y se trabaje en el rescate y defensa de la lengua ancestral en el contexto local, regional y nacional. Se presenta una propuesta que implemente una investigación-acción aplicada con un enfoque sistémico complejo que nos permita interpretar la realidad de una manera amplia, participativa, crítica, autor reflexionar sobre la realidad y transformarla. Se describen los posibles resultados a obtener durante la futura puesta en práctica de este proyecto direccionado a elevar la conciencia de los ciudadanos sobre los procesos de transculturación sociolingüística en la ciudadanía Bolivarense, para estimular el respeto mutuo y fortalecer sus identidades, historia y cultur

Wavelet q-Fisher Information for Scaling Signal Analysis

This article first introduces the concept of wavelet q-Fisher information and then derives a closed-form expression of this quantifier for scaling signals of parameter α. It is shown that this information measure appropriately describes the complexities of scaling signals and provides further analysis flexibility with the parameter q. In the limit of q→1, wavelet q-Fisher information reduces to the standard wavelet Fisher information and for q > 2 it reverses its behavior. Experimental results on synthesized fGn signals validates the level-shift detection capabilities of wavelet q-Fisher information. A comparative study also shows that wavelet q-Fisher information locates structural changes in correlated and anti-correlated fGn signals in a way comparable with standard breakpoint location techniques but at a fraction of the time.
