Iron and steel industry is among the essential strategic groups of the national industry since iron and steel products are not only raw materials for metal-based manufacture industries but also as pillars of development in infrastructure. The development of the iron and steel industry requires comprehensive handling; in the mastering of processing technology and the resources added value. The iron and steel industry is the “Backbone” in supporting the development of the national economy. Therefore, the Government’s role becomes crucial in developing the national iron and steel industry. Initially, the Indonesian steel industry was the largest in ASEAN, however over time, the position of Indonesian declines and no longer the largest. DAN is one of the three top manufacturers of plants and machines for the steel-making industry in the world. The unavailability of adequate government protection to domestic producers made imported steel products streamed heavily in all upstream and downstream sectors. This situation made the steel producer cannot grow and become stagnant in income; it cannot compete in costs; therefore, cannot invest and innovate effectively. The unavailability of the significant investment made DAN business in Indonesia become tough to grow. The purpose of the research is to develop a business strategy for DAN representative office to grow its business in Indonesia and choose a value proposition to the Indonesian market. To achieve the research objective, data collection in the method of interviews into Indonesia iron and steel industry stakeholders, along with a direct survey questionnaire into the experts to understanding industry situation and stakeholders' perspective of DAN overall performance. The various analysis framework, named PESTEL, Five Forces Porter, SWOT, were utilized to understand Indonesia iron and steel market, and company internal advantages and disadvantages in responding to it. The result of strategies is implemented with sequences: costing evaluation, financing support, human resources, partnership development, and investment

In 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Indonesia declared the situation as a national disaster. Over the past years variants emerged. During these years, companies faced business disruption, and some had to close as measures involving distancing, travel, gatherings, and lockdowns were enforced. These measures also endangered the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector. This paper presents a study of the business issues faced by a Professional Conference Organizer (PCO), which like other MICE companies, faced difficulties amidst the pandemic which at the time of this writing has not yet ended. For these issues this study developed business strategies towards recovery, adaptation and growth in the current and post-pandemic era. The studied companies faced revenue decrease, competition and uncertainty. To survive, these companies had to raise capital, reduce manpower and salaries. In addition, the shifting to virtual formats poses a threat. Hence, strategies concerning pricing, segmentation focus and resilience are evaluated against the current and expected conditions. Some key recommendations of this study include expanding focus to a broader segment, R&D and diversification. Keywords: business disruption, COVID-19, diversification, events, Indonesia, MICE, pandemic, PCO, resilienc

    Get PDF
PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or commonly called BRI is the oldest and widest bank in Indonesia. Founded in 1895, BRI currently has more than 8,600 working units spread across Indonesia and has been connected in real-time online. Since the beginning, BRI has focused and committed on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) segment as the core of BRI’s business. However, currently BRI suffered a setback in SMSEs segment as its major business, especially since the last three years. In fact BRI’s loan growth in the third quarter of 2012 only amounted to 15.08% which is far below the average growth of the national commercial bank which reached 23.6%. This condition is very contradict with the conditions in several years ago in which the BRI’s loan growth is always above the average loan growth of the national banks. Currently BRI is designing a business strategy to improve coordination between business units and also to accelerate the growth of its business. This Final project is composed to examine and explore the business strategy taken by BRI as the oldest and widest bank in Indonesia in order to maintain and accelerate the business growth. Hopefully with this strategy, BRI can maintain a sustainable and healthy business growth in the middle of tight conditions of business competition. Keywords: SMSE, Sustainable Growth, Business Strateg

Analysis of a Prestressed Sleeper for Railway Turnout under the Effect Static Load with a Unilateral Contact Model and Support Stiffness of Existing Railway Bed of a Railway Section in Vietnam

    Get PDF
In the process of analyzing prestressed sleepers for turnout on elastic foundations with large lengths, authors around the world often use the one-stiffness model of Winkler or the two-stiffness model of the Filonenko-Borodich and Pasternak. Railway bed stiffness is assumed to be a constant value from the design to the end of the operating process. In this study, the authors use a one-stiffness model to simulate the interaction between the prestressed sleepers for turnout and the railway bed, which helps to describe the contact and non-contact between the prestressed sleepers of turnout and the railway bed, the phenomenon that the many traditional models do not implement yet. In addition, the railway bed stiffness included in the analysis is obtained by testing at the field of a railway section in operation in Vietnam. The authors use the finite element method and combine it with the Newton iteration method. Accordingly, the analysis results of prestressed sleepers for turnout will be more consistent with actual behavior. We need to check the actual stiffness of the foundation before it is included in the analysis because the actual stiffness of the foundation gives more accurate results during analysis

Vietnam is located in the tropical monsoon climate, so there are many storms affecting the marine environment each year. However, Vietnam’s sea also has distinct characteristics due to the continental shelf factors, salinity, sea currents and viscosity water. In this paper, the sea weather effects to the ship in the sea area from BinhThuan province to Ca Mau province are analyzed. Specifically, wave, wind and current which are the three main factors affecting the safety of ship are thoroughly examined. Importantly, the survey parameters have been built from the actual operating environment. In addition, maintaining the stability of dynamic positioning system in Vietnam weather conditions is the main point of this study

An Application of Vector Autoregressive Model for Analyzing the Impact of Weather And Nearby Traffic Flow On The Traffic Volume

This paper aims to predict the traffic flow at one road segment based on nearby traffic volume and weather conditions. Our team also discover the impact of weather conditions and nearby traffic volume on the traffic flow at a target point. The analysis results will help solve the problem of traffic flow prediction and develop an optimal transport network with efficient traffic movement and minimal traffic congestion. Hourly historical weather and traffic flow data are selected to solve this problem. This paper uses model VAR(36) with time trend and constant to train the dataset and forecast. With an RMSE of 565.0768111 on average, the model is considered appropriate although some statistical tests implies that the residuals are unstable and non-normal. Also, this paper points out some variables that are not useful in forecasting, which helps simplify the data-collecting process when building the forecasting system.Comment: International Conference on Computing and Communication Technologies (RIVF2022

Maritime Data Mining for Marine Safety Based on Deep Learning: Southern Vietnam Case Study

    Get PDF
High-speed passenger vessels, integrated river and sea vessels, container vessels, oil tankers, and other underwater vehicles operating in maritime traffic are among the types of vessels that must be equipped with AIS and VHF. The safety of navigation is one of the major problems in the maritime sector, particularly in Vietnam. Furthermore, marine traffic in the seaport zone is a common and difficult issue to manage in areas with a high volume of vessel traffic, mostly in places where the infrastructure supporting navigation is inadequately developed to meet the rapidly growing demands of the contemporary world. Therefore, it is necessary to create an integrated maritime management system to improve the efficiency of data exploitation and support maritime safety. To address this challenge, this study suggests a Maritime Traffic State Prediction (MTSP) model to predict traffic conditions in the channels where real-time data collection is insufficient in some specific locations. We recommend a deep learning method using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to predict the safe path of the vessel in case of missing data segments. The findings have shown that the proposed approach encourages the mining of historical vessel data for maritime traffic, is ready to be applied, and can easily be implemented in a computer program or a web-based app
