A behavioral choice model of the use of car-sharing and ride-sourcing services

There are a number of disruptive mobility services that are increasingly finding their way into the marketplace. Two key examples of such services are car-sharing services and ride-sourcing services. In an effort to better understand the influence of various exogenous socio-economic and demographic variables on the frequency of use of ride-sourcing and car-sharing services, this paper presents a bivariate ordered probit model estimated on a survey data set derived from the 2014-2015 Puget Sound Regional Travel Study. Model estimation results show that users of these services tend to be young, well-educated, higher-income, working individuals residing in higher-density areas. There are significant interaction effects reflecting the influence of children and the built environment on disruptive mobility service usage. A vigência das cláusulas normativas dos acordos e convenções coletivas de trabalho

Direito.Desde 1988, a jurisprudência do TST seguia ao critério de aderência contratual limitada pelo prazo, no entanto, grande parte da doutrina brasileira, em contraponto, defendia a necessidade de a jurisprudência trabalhista reconhecer a superioridade do critério de aderência contratual das normas coletivas limitada por revogação. Em setembro de 2012, os ministros do TST participaram da Semana Jurídica com o fim de analisar e atualizar a sua jurisprudência. Neste evento, o TST editou a nova redação da Súmula nº 277, agraciando os defensores do critério da ultratividade condicionada das normas coletivas, também chamado de critério da aderência limitada por revogação. Sendo assim, não há mais que se pensar em prazos convencionados, pois, com a nova edição da Súmula nº 277, do TST, a vigência das cláusulas advindas das convenções coletivas de trabalho e dos acordos coletivos de trabalho, está condicionada, somente, a uma nova negociação coletiva de trabalho que a revogue, seja expressamente ou tacitamente, ou seja, sua aderência não tem limitação temporal

This article presents a brief overview of the religious influence that the Escola de Samba Vai-Vai has in its daily life and transmits to its members. Such references range from the European Catholic ones to the Afro-Diasporic ones, especially the devotion that the escola de samba has in relation to Ogum, the Vai-Vai’s orixá. This profane way of expressing faith is part of the Vai-Vai's routine, and votive parties are part of the institution’s annual calendar. But that's not all. In the carnival parades - the moment of greatest visibility that the Escolas de Samba have throughout the year - this religiosity is also evident, with representations of yorubás deities appearing in the parades, especially representations of Ogum, which have appeared more frequently recent years.Esse artigo apresenta uma breve visão a respeito da influência religiosa que a Escola de Samba Vai-Vai tem em seu cotidiano e transmite aos seus integrantes. Tais referências vão desde as católicas europeias, até as afro-diaspóricas, em especial a devoção que a agremiação tem com relação à Ogum, orixá regente da escola. Essa forma de expressar a fé, tão própria da escola de samba, festiva e sincrética – mas ainda assim, sagrada -, faz parte do dia a dia da escola, e festas votivas fazem parte do calendário anual da agremiação. Mas não é só. Nos desfiles de carnaval – momento de maior visibilidade que as agremiações têm ao longo do ano - essa religiosidade também se evidencia, com representações de divindades aparecendo nos cortejos, com destaque às representações de Ogum, que apareceram com mais frequência, nos desfiles dos últimos anos

Orthodox Christianity, Church-State relations and pro-Russia stance in contemporary Greece and Romania

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar o posicionamento pró-Rússia na Grécia e naRomênia no aspecto religioso. A hipótese é de que o ambiente secular da União Européiafavorece um distanciamento desses países em relação à organização. Essa percepçãodiferente do papel da religião na vida pública contribui para uma percepção favorável daRússia como protetora dos cristãos ortodoxos no mundo. O referencial teórico foi compostoprincipalmente pelo construtivismo crítico e o debate referente ao papel da religião nasRelações Internacionais. The hypothesis is that the secular environment of the favours a distancing of these countries from the European Union. This different perception of the role of religion in public life may contribute to a favourable perception of Russia as the protector of Orthodox Christians in the world. On the distribution of an effective channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO

Accurate channel estimation is of utmost importance for massive MIMO systems to provide significant improvements in spectral and energy efficiency. In this work, we present a study on the distribution of a simple but yet effective and practical channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO systems suffering from pilot-contamination. The proposed channel estimator performs well under moderate to aggressive pilot contamination scenarios without previous knowledge of the inter-cell large-scale channel coefficients and noise power, asymptotically approximating the performance of the linear MMSE estimator as the number of antennas increases. We prove that the distribution of the proposed channel estimator can be accurately approximated by the circularly-symmetric complex normal distribution, when the number of antennas, M, deployed at the base station is greater than 10

Zika and SARS-CoV-2: neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative outcomes

Through the emergence of new viral infectious diseases, epidemics and pandemics have brought great impacts on public health in recent decades. In this review, we sought to understand the association between the neurological outcomes of two relevant infectious diseases, Zika and COVID-19. Zika can trigger neurological and ophthalmic damage in children born from infected mothers, as well as, Guillain-Barré syndrome, encephalitis, and myelitis in adults. On the other hand, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has great potential to trigger an inflammatory process in the optic nerve, with optic neuritis as the most reported pathology. Although Zika and SARS-CoV-2 infections are associated with different clinical manifestations, both may trigger similar pathogenic processes, through the induction of pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines release, triggering neurological and ophthalmological damage in infected patients. Elements in common have been found in both infections, such as antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein, and the production of CXCL10, a chemokine responsible for the activation of several cellular types (T cells, eosinophils, monocytes and NK cells) in which are responsible to the induction of a cytokine cascade in the body. Based on these last findings, we suggest that both infections have similar activation characteristics as well as common pathogenic mechanisms associated with central nervous system involvement. Optimization of the Superconducting Linear Magnetic Bearing of a Maglev Vehicle

Considering the need for cost/performance prediction and optimization of superconducting maglev vehicles, we develop and validate here a 3D finite element model to simulate superconducting linear magnetic bearings. Then we reduce the 3D model to a 2D model in order to decrease the computing time. This allows us to perform in a reasonable time a stochastic optimization considering the superconductor properties and the vehicle operation. We look for the permanent magnet guideway geometry that minimizes the cost and maximizes the lateral force during a displacement sequence, with a constraint on the minimum levitation force. The displacement sequence reproduces a regular maglev vehicle operation with both vertical and lateral movements. For the sake of comparison, our reference is the SupraTrans prototype bearing. The results of the optimization suggest that the bearing cost could be substantially reduced, while keeping the same performances as the initial design. Alternatively, the performances could be significantly improved for the same original cost

Modelos de precificação de ativos financeiros de fator único: um teste empírico dos modelos CAPM e D-CAPM

This study analyzed the Capital Asset Pricing Model CAPM as well as the Downside Capital Asset Pricing Model D-CAPM and evaluated the latter as an efficient alternative asset pricing model. The returns of 40 companies on the São Paulo Stock Exchange BOVESPA were studied between December 1996 and August 2002. To test the models the study used as variables the Interbank Deposit Certificate CDI as a risk free asset and the Index of São Paulo Stock Exchange IBOVESPA as a proxy of the market portfolio. The D-CAPM was shown to be more useful in explaining the return of the stock market than the CAPM.O objetivo deste estudo é analisar o capital asset pricing model (CAPM) e o downside capital asset pricing model (D-CAPM), bem como avaliar se este último modelo é uma eficiente alternativa de modelo de precificação de ativos. Os dados da pesquisa referem-se a 40 retornos de companhias listadas na Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo, de dezembro de 1996 a agosto de 2002. O artigo utilizou, para testar os modelos, as variáveis Certificado de Depósito Interbancário (CDI), como um ativo livre de risco, e o índice da Bolsa de Valores de Sao Paulo (Ibovespa), como proxy do portfólio de mercado. Conclui-se, então, que o D-CAPM possui uma maior capacidade explicativa dos retornos dos ativos se comparado ao CAPM
