Resistencias femeninas al franquismo. Para un estado de la cuestión

    Get PDF
The paper concentrates on the analysis of (i) the main interpretative clues concerning women commitment in the struggle against Franco, and ii) the different types of interventions in “female” living spaces and places traditionally considered of a secondary or supportive nature. The reformulation of the concept of resistance and the corresponding revaluation of struggling modalities associated to solidarity, survival, dissidence or personal revolt, have made visible, in recent years, a complex and articulated women participation. Similarly, the study of the dictatorship repression types may offer significant research clues with respect to the “consensus” during Franco’s regime.

Impacts of Transportation Planning on Economic Development: The relationship between economic, social, and environmental variables and transit hubs measured through spatial statistics

    Get PDF
The objective of this research is to identify the rate of change surrounding transit lines in the regions of Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto. The rate of change is observed through a sustainability lens bringing to light the economic, social and environmental perspective. The shift between once rural to urban settlement had advanced the study of globalization research. Through the adoption of Canadian census and satellite imaging a 25-year rate of change analysis is performed. A total of seven variables are measured to identify whether a consistent rate of change could be retrieved between the 1981 and 2006 census years: (1) average dwelling value; (2) average number of rooms per dwelling; (3) average gross monthly rent; (4) average household income represent economic variables; (5) population density; (6) average number of persons per household represent social variables; and (7) the removal of green space represents environmental variables. In the case of Metropolitan Vancouver, data shows a strong relationship between the rates of change in variables over the 25-year period meaning growth and development occurred along transit. In the case of the City of Toronto, data points to moderate development along the selected transit line. In the case of Metropolitan Montreal, no distinct rate of change was observed meaning that transit did not foster urban development growth

GRENADES OR LITTLE VESSELS? ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ARCHAEOMETRIC DATA ABOUT THE ODD ARTEFACTS FROM THE ANCIENT BORN MARKET (BARCELONA, SPAIN)

In this communication, we present the archaeological and archaeometric results on a collection of 188 ceramic receptacles from the archaeological excavations carried out in the old Born market of Barcelona (Spain). The market was converted in a cultural centre and officially opened in September 2013. The centre’s key attraction is its archaeology which has been re- imagined to communicate the horrors following the fall of Barcelona to Bourbon siege during the Spanish War of Succession in 1714. These artefacts had been published in a former study as small vessels to sell products in little quantities. However, due to the scarce information on materials of similar shape and dimensions, their interpretation is not clear and need more investigation. The archaeological comparative study demonstrates that these small ceramic receptacles can be better interpreted as grenades. They had probably been prepared with the aim of using them in an extreme attempt of defence against the Bourbon attack. The complementary archaeometric investigation suggests that the assemblage is formed by a homogeneous production made with a calcareous clay from local marine sediments

In the mediaeval period the narratives of St Patrick’s Purgatory enjoyed an enduring success throughout the romance territories. In France, in Paris, during the 15th-16th centuries, several editions of the most common Old French version were printed. In Lyon, by contrast, a new translation of the Latin text appeared. The printed editions confirm the double purpose of the St Patrick’s Purgatory narratives : to set up a popular catechesis based on the immanent character of the Purgatory’s punishments, and to elaborate a speculum of knighthood, constituting a last attempt at moralising and promoting self-controlLes récits consacrés au Purgatoire de Saint Patrice ont connu un succès durable dans tout le domaine de la Romania médiévale.

The women's memory in the resistance again Franco's regime: Context, identity, self-representation

This paper reviews a research on the resistance of women against Franco's regime, undertaken by the author almost twenty years ago. New methodological tools concerning oralhistory and interpretation keys of gender history, contribute to analyse interrelationships suchas memory-identity-autorepresentation, including dialogic relations among testimonies andthe context, as well as between the interviewer and the interviewed women. Briefly, a “revisitation”that intends to identify lines of research allowing to surpass the solidarity phase for morecomplex and problem oriented approaches to women's resistance

    Get PDF
Ramon de Perelhos wrote his Viage al Purgatori on the return of his journey to St. Patrick’s Purgatory on Ireland. He added up his travel’s experience and the most famous account on the Purgatory’s descent of knight Owein, from the Tractatus de purgatorio sancti Patrici. However Ramon didn’t use the Latin text, but his French translation preserved by many manuscripts. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the dependence of Ramon’s Purgatori  from the French version (XIII century) and from a specific family of French manuscripts. We can understand the errors of the Provencal manuscripts tradition and we can suggest some correction

Petrographic markers for archaeometric identification of Montjuic sandstone, the flagship stone of Barcelona (NE Spain)

    Get PDF
The present study deals with a particular clastic rock from the Montjuïc hill exploited since Roman times in Barcino (present-day Barcelona (NE Spain)). Polarized and cathodoluminescence microscopies have been used to describe the main petrographic features of Montjuïc sandstones. Several characteristic provenance markers have been identified; among them the most specifically restricted to Montjuïc sandstone are the K-feldspar clasts with authigenic overgrowths. A petrographic survey oriented to the detection of such markers has been fruitfully applied to sculptures, architectural elements, mosaics, and pottery. The petrographic approach has demonstrated that some Roman heritage materials had been erroneously assigned to Montjuïc sandstone and the revision of all the pieces macroscopically assigned to this provenance is advised. The use of Montjuïc sandstone in Roman tesserae has been reported for the first time with interesting implications on previously unreported evidence of Roman extraction at the bottom part of the Montjuïc cliff. Finally, Montjuïc crushed sandstone used as pottery temper has been also reported in the productions of a medieval (12–13th century) workshop in Barcelona. This encourages the study of the distribution of pottery with this particular temper.Financial support from project CGL2013-42167-P (Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad) is acknowledged.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
