    Valor del screening de preeclampsia del Hospital Universitario de Basurto

    [ES] Objetivo: Analizar la efectividad del screening de preeclampsia (PE) del Hospital Universitario de Basurto (HUB). Introducción: La preeclampsia está presente en el 2-5% de los embarazos y constituye la mayor causa de morbilidad y mortalidad materna y fetal. Métodos: La muestra se compuso de 472 gestantes. Se incluyeron datos de la historia clínica materna, índice de pulsatilidad de las arterias uterinas, cumplimiento del protocolo de prevención y desarrollo de preeclampsia y/o de sus complicaciones. Para realizar el análisis estadístico se empleó el programa SPSS. Resultados: El 21% de las gestantes presentó riesgo de preeclampsia, destacando la nuliparidad, el IMC ≥30 y la edad materna ≥40 años como factores de riesgo más frecuentes. Se observó una inadecuada aplicación del protocolo de prevención en el 32,7% de las gestaciones, siendo la falta de realización del Eco-Doppler de las arterias uterinas el motivo de incumplimiento más repetido (81,3%). Se registraron 10 casos de PE, con una tasa de incidencia del 2,11%. El 60% de las gestaciones que desarrollaron PE sufrieron complicaciones, constituyendo el CIR y el parto prematuro las dolencias más frecuentemente contempladas. Conclusión: Los hallazgos de este trabajo sugieren la necesidad de realizar nuevos estudios en el ámbito de la predicción y de la prevención de la preeclampsia en el Hospital Universitario de Basurto

    El proceso de adaptación de las titulaciones universitarias a las directrices de la Declaración de Bolonia con la creación de un Espacio Europeo de Enseñanza Superior (EEES) implica una profunda renovación pedagógica. La estrategia docente cambia, y el estudiante pasa a ser el protagonista principal del proceso de aprendizaje. Se da más importancia a todo el proceso de aprendizaje, que será más activo y participativo y los objetivos de formación están basados tanto en la adquisición de conocimientos como en la capacitación para seguir estudiando, es decir, adquirir tanto competencias profesionales como académicas. En este contexto, las bibliotecas universitarias juegan un papel decisivo, ya que se han de transformar en una herramienta fundamental de soporte para la docencia y el aprendizaje. Dentro de esta renovación de la enseñanza universitaria y a partir del curso académico 2002-03, la Escuela de Enfermería Vall d'Hebron de Barcelona, que imparte los estudios de Enfermería desde 1977, incorpora de forma pionera el Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas (ABP) a la totalidad de su currículum. Con esta nueva metodología se pretende que el aprendizaje sea autogestionado por el propio el estudiante, que aprenderá de una forma diferente y tendrá un sistema se evaluación también diferente en el que se valorará más su esfuerzo, simultaneará el trabajo individual y en grupo con el estudio y las tutorías. En este contexto es necesario que la biblioteca disponga de las herramientas necesarias para que el estudiante pueda acceder, seleccionar y elaborar la información pertinente, de acuerdo con los objetivos de cada caso o problema

    Exploring the chemical space of 1,2,3-triazolyl triclosan analogs for discovery of new antileishmanial chemotherapeutic agents

    Triclosan and isoniazid are known antitubercular compounds that have proven to be also active againstLeishmaniaparasites. On these grounds, a collection of 37 diverse 1,2,3-triazoles based on the antitubercular molecules triclosan and 5-octyl-2-phenoxyphenol (8PP) were designed in search of novel structures with leishmanicidal activity and prepared using different alkynes and azides. The 37 compounds were assayed againstLeishmania donovani, the etiological agent of leishmaniasis, yielding some analogs with activity at micromolar concentrations and againstM. tuberculosisH37Rv resulting in scarce active compounds with an MIC of 20 μM. To study the mechanism of action of these catechols, we analyzed the inhibition activity of the library on theM. tuberculosisenoyl-ACP reductase (ENR) InhA, obtaining poor inhibition of the enzyme. The cytotoxicity against Vero cells was also tested, resulting in none of the compounds being cytotoxic at concentrations of up to 20 μM. Derivative5fcould be considered a valuable starting point for future antileishmanial drug development. The validation of a putative leishmanial InhA orthologue as a therapeutic target needs to be further investigated

    Study of urgent visits to commercial rabbit farms in Spain and Portugal during 1997-2007

    [EN] This is a report on work carried out on 4307 visits to 868 commercial farms with domestic rabbits in Spain and Portugal from January 1997 to December 2007. Of the total visits, 2237 (52%) were emergencies on 660 farms. The median size of the farms ranged between 450 does in 1997 and 750 in 2007. This retrospective study measures the clinical disease occurrence using the Monthly Risk of urgent visits (MR), i.e. the percentage of visits made as a result of each clinical disease in comparison with the total number of urgent visits made each month. The main reasons for the emergencies were mucoid enteropathy (similar to Epizootic Rabbit Enteropathy), with a MR: 25.0%, enteritis-diarrhoea (24.1%), myxomatosis, (11.1%), reproductive troubles (8.6%), respiratory diseases (7.2%) and staphylococcosis (4.2%). Fifty-four percent of the urgent visits were due to diseases of the digestive system. Mucoid enteropathy was still one of the main diseases faced by the commercial rabbit industry during the study period. No significant yearly or monthly variations were observed in the analysis of the MR. A seasonal effect was only found in respiratory diseases during the summer (MR: 11.06±0.01) and myxomatosis in autumn (MR: 14.60±0.02), in comparison with spring (MR: 7.44±0.02).     Study of phytoproteases stability in aqueous-organic biphasic systems using linear free energy relationships

    In this paper we study the effect of different water-immiscible organic solvents (benzene, toluene, 1-butanol, 1-octanol, dichloroethane, dichloromethane, diethyl ether, hexane, chlorobenzene, acetophenone, n-dodecane, trichloroethylene, ethyl acetate) on the stability (residual caseinolytic activity after 4 h) of soluble phytoproteases, such as araujiain, funastrain and papain in aqueous-organic biphasic systems. Besides, the effect of organic solvents on enzymatic catalysis was quantitatively studied by means of linear free energy relationships (LFERs). The organic solvents were characterized by several physicochemical properties, and multiple linear regression analysis (MLRA) together with non-linear regression were the methods used to search the relationships between the residual caseinolytic activity data and several physicochemical parameters. Those enzymes show much greater activity and stability in some biphasic media than in water. On the other hand, all developed correlations represented highly significant LFERs models and showed that non-specific polar and hydrophobic factors are of prime and approximately equal importance for the biocatalytic activity of araujiain, funastrain and papain in the studied biphasic systems, while the specific polar interactions are of little importance for activity. The results suggested that araujiain, funastrain and papain do not suffer unfolding in the studied biphasic media and they are able to retain their native or native-like configurations, though with altered characteristics or properties. This fact was demonstrated by means of a comparative FTIR spectroscopy study in both, buffer and biphasic media, for each studied enzyme.Facultad de Ciencias Exacta
