Este artículo comenta la vida y obra de Luis Mariano de Larra y Wetoret (1830-1901), uno de los dramaturgos más populares de su día (segunda mitad del XIX), pero que ha sido olvidado por la crítica moderna. Larra estrenó y publicó más de cien obras teatrales, algunas de las cuales llegaron a publicarse en múltiples ediciones. Autor de la conocidísima zarzuela El barberillo de Lavapiés, también es autor de obras como Una virgen de Murillo (1854) y La oración de la tarde (1858), dos de sus obras más aplaudidas.This article discusses the life and work of Luis Mariano de Larra y Wetoret (1830-1901), one of the most popular playwrights of his time (the second half of the 19th century) who has however been forgotten by modern critics. Larra staged and published over one hundred plays, some of which had several editions. He is the author of the well known zarzuela El barberillo de Lavapiés, as well as, Una virgen de Murillo (1854) and La oración de la tarde (1858), which are two of his most famous plays

Ser hispanista. ¿Por qué?

¿Por qué se inspira un individuo no hispánico en convertirse en lo que llamamos “hispanista” (persona que se dedica al estudio de la lengua, literatura y cultura de países hispanohablantes)? Las razones son múltiples y con frecuencia sorprendentes. Algunos descubren su vocación temprano, otros más tarde en la vida. Unos estudian la historia de la lengua o la lingüística mientras otros investigan la literatura medieval o la contemporánea, el cine o la historia, los dramaturgos o los poetas, la novela o el refrán. The Proportion of Fixed-Point-Free Elements of a Transitive Permutation Group

In 1990 Hendrik W. Lenstra, Jr. asked the following question: if G is a transitive permutation group of degree n and A is the set of elements of G that move every letter, then can one find a lower bound (in terms of n) for f(G) = |A|/|G|? Shortly thereafter, Arjeh Cohen showed that 1/n is such a bound. Lenstra’s problem arose from his work on the number field sieve. A simple example of how f(G) arises in number theory is the following: if h is an irreducible polynomial over the integers, consider the proportion: |{primes ≤ x | h has no zeroes mod p}| / |{primes ≤ x}| As x → ∞, this ratio approaches f(G), where G is the Galois group of h considered as a permutation group on its roots. Our results in this paper include explicit calculations of f(G) for groups G in several families. We also obtain results useful for computing f(G) when G is a wreath product or a direct product of permutation groups. Using this we show that {f(G) | G is transitive} is dense in [0, 1]. The corresponding conclusion is true if we restrict G to primitive groups
