Directional Speaker Poster
Changi Airport is set to expand with a new terminal, Terminal 5. Currently, many of the airport\u27s processes are manual, requiring a high dependence on staff. This proposal aims to incorporate automation and AI for a smoother passenger experience
Increasing prevalence of asthma diagnosis and symptoms in children is confined to mild symptoms
BACKGROUND: The prevalence of childhood asthma is increasing but few studies have investigated trends in asthma severity. We investigated trends in asthma diagnosis and symptom morbidity between an eight year time period in a paired prevalence study.
METHODS: All children in one single school year aged 8-9 years in the city of Sheffield were given a parent respondent questionnaire in 1991 and 1999 based on questions from the International Survey of Asthma and Allergy in Children (ISAAC). Data were obtained regarding the prevalence of asthma and wheeze and current (12 month) prevalences of wheeze attacks, speech limiting wheeze, nocturnal cough and wheeze, and exertional symptoms.
RESULTS: The response rates in 1991 and 1999 were 4580/5321 (85.3%) and 5011/6021 (83.2%), respectively. There were significant increases between the two surveys in the prevalence of asthma ever (19.9% v 29.7%, mean difference 11.9%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 10.16 to 13.57, p<0.001), current asthma (10.3% v 13.0%, mean difference 2.7%, 95% CI 1.44 to 4.03, p<0.001), wheeze ever (30.3% v 35.8%, mean difference 5.7%, 95% CI 3.76 to 7.56, p<0.001), wheeze in the previous 12 months (17.0% v 19.4%, mean difference 2.5, 95% CI 0.95 to 4.07, p<0.01), and reporting of medication use (16.9% v 20%, mean difference 3.0%, 95% CI 1.46 to 4.62, p<0.001). There were also significant increases in reported hayfever and eczema diagnoses.
CONCLUSIONS: Diagnostic labelling of asthma and lifetime prevalence of wheeze has increased. The current 12 month point prevalence of wheeze has increased but this is confined to occasional symptoms. The increased medication rate may be responsible for the static prevalence of severe asthma symptoms. The significant proportion of children receiving medication but reporting no asthma symptoms identified from our 1999 survey suggests that some children are being inappropriately treated or overtreated

Association between Hypertension and Periodontitis: Possible Mechanisms
This review is to examine the current literatures on the relationship between periodontitis and hypertension as well as to explore the possible biological pathways underlying the linkage between these health conditions. Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction are among the critical components in the development of hypertension. Inflammation has received much attention recently and may contribute to a pivotal role in hypertension. Periodontitis, a chronic low-grade inflammation of gingival tissue, has been linked to endothelial dysfunction, with blood pressure elevation and increased mortality risk in hypertensive patients. Inflammatory biomarkers are increased in hypertensive patients with periodontitis. Over the years, various researches have been performed to evaluate the involvement of periodontitis in the initiation and progression of hypertension. Many cross-sectional studies documented an association between hypertension and periodontitis. However, more well-designed prospective population trials need to be carried out to ascertain the role of periodontitis in hypertension
Cold Dark Matter with MOND Scaling
We provide a holographic dual description of Milgrom's scaling associated
with galactic rotation curves. Our argument is based on the recent entropic
reinterpretation of Newton's laws of motion. We propose a duality between cold
dark matter and modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND). We introduce the concept of
MONDian dark matter, and discuss some of its phenomenological implications. At
cluster as well as cosmological scales, the MONDian dark matter would behave as
cold dark matter, but at the galactic scale, the MONDian dark matter would act
as MOND.Comment: 5 pages, v3: version to appear in PLB with the title changed and more

Physicochemical characterization, molecular modeling, and stability of the resveratrol-cyclodextrin Inclusion complexes
Resveratrol exhibits wide pharmacological activities, such as, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, cardio-protective, neuro-protective, chemo-preventive, chemo-therapeutic, and anti-aging. However, its aqueous solubility is very low. This poor aqueous solubility creates huge problems for its delivery. This study aimed to increase aqueous solubility of resveratrol by forming inclusion complexes with cyclodextrin (CD) derivatives, hydroxypropyl-ß-cyclodextrin (HP-ß-CD) and randomly methylated-ß-cyclodextrin (RM-ß-CD). The physicochemical properties of the inclusion complexes (resveratrol-HP-ß-CD and resveratrol-RM-ß-CD) were investigated by UV scan, Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffractometry to confirm the complex formation. Stability of
the inclusion complexes were determined in different storage conditions. Molecular modeling served as a supplementary tool to understand the inclusion behavior of the CDs by predicting the inclusion modes and the stoichiometry of the complexes. Although solubility of resveratrol in the simulated physiological fluids were very low, solubility was increased by CDs. RM-ß-CD was superior to HP-ß-CD for solubility enhancement. The combined use of different characterization techniques suggested inclusion complex formation between resveratrol and CDs. Molecular modeling further supported the inclusion complex formation. Stable solution formulations of resveratrol were prepared in this study.Colegio de Farmacéuticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire
High In-Vitro Antitumour Activity of Triphenyltin Coumarin 3-Carboxylate and its Coordination Complexes With Monodentate Oxygen Donor Ligands Against the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV)-DNA Positive Raji and the P-388 Murine Leukaemia Cell Lines, and Evidence for the Suppression by Organotin of the Early Antigen Complex in the EBV Lytic Cycle
Triphenyltin coumarin-3-carboxylate and its coordination complexes with ethanol, triphenylphosphine oxide, triphenylarsine oxide, diphenylcyclopropenone and quinoline N-oxide exhibited high in vitro cytotoxicity (LC50 values in the range 0.25-3.4 μg/mL) when tested against EBV-DNA positive Raji cells and P-388 leukaemia cells, compared to the standard drug 5-Fluorouracil, which showed LC50 values of 11 and >50 μg/mL, respectively, against these cells. Additional tests performed on the Raji cells incubated with the quinoline N-oxide complex in the presence of the tumour promoters, TPA and sodium butyrate, revealed that the diffused and restricted protein components of the early antigen complex were suppressed relative to the control containing only the promoters, indicating impaired function of the genes involved as transactivators in the early lytic cycle of the EBV. The failure of the restriction enzymes Eco R1 and Hind III to cleave the extracted DNA from such treated cells in contrast to the control, coupled with the amplification of the BMLF-1 gene by the PCR technique which was realised only with the DNA of the control and not of the treated sample, point to a punitive interaction of the organotin with the nuclear DNA of the Raji cells
Entropy of black holes in the deformed Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity
We find the entropy of Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole in the deformed
Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity by using the first law of thermodynamics. When
applying generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to Schwarzschild black hole,
the entropy may be interpreted as the GUP-inspired
black hole entropy. Hence, it implies that the duality in the entropy between
the Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole and GUP-inspired Schwarzschild black hole is
present.Comment: 11 pages, version to appear in PL
