Since the mobile phone was introduced to the market, its way of using changed rapidly. Nowadays it is an important tool, e.g. as organizer or knowledge base in people’s every days life. The important question is now: In which way mobile services will gain influence on private data. For this purpose surveys were conducted in Berlin-Brandenburg to get a serious database and to figure out customer‘s wishes and expectations regarding these services. Another reason for this survey was to find out, whether people are willing to provide their private data to programs or services that combine different kinds of those data, to connect these independent data to a huge database, to make suggestions of people’s interests

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MUSCLE VOLUME AND STRENGTH ASYMMETRY IN ELITE ATHLETES: INVESTIGATION OF THE QUADRICEPS FEMORIS AND HAMSTRING MUSCLES

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between muscle volume asymmetries and strength asymmetries of the lower extremity. 26 highly trained athletes underwent isometric and isokinetic strength tests at different speeds (60, 180, 0 °/s) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to analyse quadriceps femoris and hamstring muscle volume. Pearson’s correlation coefficients revealed significant correlations between both the quadriceps volume asymmetries and the maximum knee extension asymmetries (r = .60 to r = .72) as well as the hamstring volume asymmetries and the maximum knee flexion asymmetries (r = .39 to r = .52). It is assumed that bilateral differences in muscle volume in part explain the existence of strength asymmetries and that unilateral resistance training of the lower extremity could reduce strength asymmetries by increasing muscle siz

Spectral Energy Distributions of a set of HII regions in M33 (HerM33es)

Within the framework of the HerM33es Key Project for Herschel and in combination with multi-wavelength data, we study the Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) of a set of HII regions in the Local Group Galaxy M33. Using the Halpha emission, we perform a classification of a selected HII region sample in terms of morphology, separating the objects in filled, mixed, shell and clear shell objects. We obtain the SED for each HII region as well as a representative SED for each class of objects. We also study the emission distribution of each band within the regions. We find different trends in the SEDs for each morphological type that are related to properties of the dust and their associated stellar cluster. The emission distribution of each band within the region is different for each morphological type of object.Comment: 3pages, 4 figures. The use of lignocellulosic waste constitutes an abundant and inexpensive source; it also offers a solution to the problem of waste disposal. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of different conditions of a sequential acid-base pretreatment of pine sawdust, through the release of reducing sugars in the saccharification step. The lignocellulosic material was pretreated in two stages: acid pretreatment (PT1), using sulfuric acid and basic pretreatment (PT2), employing sodium hydroxide at three levels each one: 1, 2 and 3 % in a factorial design. Enzymatic hydrolysis was carried out at 50 ºC and 150 rpm in 50 mL vials. Samples were taken at 0.15, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. The percentage of acid soluble lignin and the concentration of reducing sugars were determined. The optimum level of each factor favoring the highest delignification corresponded to 3 % sulfuric acid and 3 % sodium hydroxide. The production of reducing sugars was not affected by the PT2, but by the PT1, achieving a maximum for level 0 thereof (2 % of sulfuric acid). The sequential acid-base pretreatment was optimized and it was found that this pretreatment improves enzymatic hydrolysis of pine sawdust respect to unpretreated samples. The amount of reducing sugars obtained was comparable to that obtained by other authors.Fil: Rodríguez, María Daniela. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. INCLUSÃO SOCIAL PARA PACIENTE COM DEFICIÊNCIA: UM NOVO MOTIVO PARA SORRIR

    Get PDF
For many centuries, society has been having difficulties dealing with disabled individuals. Such difficulties are a result of historical legacy and lack of information, which generates prejudice and makes society unable to provide care to these people. Disabled individuals have physical, intellectual, social and/or emotional alterations and they need to receive special education and temporary and definitive additional instructions. Social inclusion is based on the fact that every human being has the right to education, health, culture, leisure, work, social care, as well as access to information, communication, means of transport, and venues to get together. In that sense, dental care must be promoted. The objective of the present study is to report on a clinical case of a 17-year-old disabled patient who was having difficulties getting a job due to his oral condition. After being treated in the Extracurricular Project "Achieving Health:  Disabled Patients' Care" of ULBRA/RS, the patient's self-esteem was higher and he was socially included. MDM2 Associates with Polycomb Repressor Complex 2 and Enhances Stemness-Promoting Chromatin Modifications Independent of p53

SummaryThe MDM2 oncoprotein ubiquitinates and antagonizes p53 but may also carry out p53-independent functions. Here we report that MDM2 is required for the efficient generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from murine embryonic fibroblasts, in the absence of p53. Similarly, MDM2 depletion in the context of p53 deficiency also promoted the differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells and diminished clonogenic survival of cancer cells. Most of the MDM2-controlled genes also responded to the inactivation of the Polycomb Repressor Complex 2 (PRC2) and its catalytic component EZH2. MDM2 physically associated with EZH2 on chromatin, enhancing the trimethylation of histone 3 at lysine 27 and the ubiquitination of histone 2A at lysine 119 (H2AK119) at its target genes. Removing MDM2 simultaneously with the H2AK119 E3 ligase Ring1B/RNF2 further induced these genes and synthetically arrested cell proliferation. In conclusion, MDM2 supports the Polycomb-mediated repression of lineage-specific genes, independent of p53

Heatwave-associated Vibrio infections in Germany, 2018 and 2019

Background: Vibrio spp. are aquatic bacteria that prefer warm seawater with moderate salinity. In humans, they can cause gastroenteritis, wound infections, and ear infections. During the summers of 2018 and 2019, unprecedented high sea surface temperatures were recorded in the German Baltic Sea. Aim: We aimed to describe the clinical course and microbiological characteristics of Vibrio infections in Germany in 2018 and 2019. Methods: We performed an observational retrospective multi-centre cohort study of patients diagnosed with domestically-acquired Vibrio infections in Germany in 2018 and 2019. Demographic, clinical, and microbiological data were assessed, and isolates were subjected to whole genome sequencing and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Results: Of the 63 patients with Vibrio infections, most contracted the virus between June and September, primarily in the Baltic Sea: 44 (70%) were male and the median age was 65 years (range: 2–93 years). Thirty-eight patients presented with wound infections, 16 with ear infections, six with gastroenteritis, two with pneumonia (after seawater aspiration) and one with primary septicaemia. The majority of infections were attributed to V. cholerae (non–O1/non-O139) (n = 30; 48%) or V. vulnificus (n = 22; 38%). Phylogenetic analyses of 12 available isolates showed clusters of three identical strains of V. vulnificus, which caused wound infections, suggesting that some clonal lines can spread across the Baltic Sea. Conclusions: During the summers of 2018 and 2019, severe heatwaves facilitated increased numbers of Vibrio infections in Germany. Since climate change is likely to favour the proliferation of these bacteria, a further increase in Vibrio-associated diseases is expected.Peer Reviewe
