Like Sign Dilepton Signature for R-Parity Violating SUSY Search at the Tevatron Collider
The like sign dileptons provide the most promising signature for
superparticle search in a large category of -parity violating SUSY models.
We estimate the like sign dilepton signals at the Tevatron collider, predicted
by these models, over a wide region of the MSSM parameter space. One expects an
unambiguous signal upto a gluino mass of GeV ( GeV) with

Higgs-Boson Production Induced by Bottom Quarks
Bottom quark-induced processes are responsible for a large fraction of the
LHC discovery potential, in particular for supersymmetric Higgs bosons.
Recently, the discrepancy between exclusive and inclusive Higgs boson
production rates has been linked to the choice of an appropriate bottom
factorization scale. We investigate the process kinematics at hadron colliders
and show that it leads to a considerable decrease in the bottom factorization
scale. This effect is the missing piece needed to understand the corresponding
higher order results. Our results hold generally for charged and for neutral
Higgs boson production at the LHC as well as at the Tevatron. The situation is
different for single top quark production, where we find no sizeable
suppression of the factorization scale. Turning the argument around, we can
specify how large the collinear logarithms are, which can be resummed using the
bottom parton picture.Comment: 18 page
Probing R-parity violating models of neutrino mass at the Tevatron via top Squark decays
We have estimated the limiting branching ratio of the R-parity violating
(RPV) decay of the lighter top squark, \tilde t_1 \ar l^+ d ( or
and d is a down type quark of any flavor), as a function of top squark
mass(\MST) for an observable signal in the di-lepton plus di-jet channel at
the Tevatron RUN-II experiment with 2 fb luminosity. Our simulations
indicate that the lepton number violating nature of the underlying decay
dynamics can be confirmed via the reconstruction of \MST. The above decay is
interesting in the context of RPV models of neutrino mass where the RPV
couplings () driving the above decay are constrained to be
small (\lsim 10^{-3} - 10^{-4} ). If is the next lightest super
particle - a theoretically well motivated scenario - then the RPV decay can
naturally compete with the R-parity conserving (RPC) modes which also have
suppressed widths. The model independent limiting BR can delineate the
parameter space in specific supersymmetric models, where the dominating RPV
decay is observable and predict the minimum magnitude of the RPV coupling that
will be sensitive to Run-II data. We have found it to be in the same ballpark
value required by models of neutrino mass, for a wide range of \MST. A
comprehensive future strategy for linking top squark decays with models of
neutrino mass is sketched.Comment: 28 pages, 14 Figure
X-ray Spectroscopy and Variability of AGN Detected in the 2 Ms Chandra Deep Field-North Survey
We investigate the nature of the faint X-ray source population through X-ray
spectroscopy and variability analyses of 136 AGN detected in the 2 Ms Chandra
Deep Field-North survey with > 200 background-subtracted 0.5-8.0 keV counts
[F(0.5-8.0 keV)=(1.4-200)e-15 erg cm^{-2} s^{-1}]. Our preliminary spectral
analyses yield median spectral parameters of Gamma=1.61 and intrinsic
N_H=6.2e21 cm^{-2} (z=1 assumed when no redshift available) when the AGN
spectra are fitted with a simple absorbed power-law model. However,
considerable spectral complexity is apparent (e.g., reflection, partial
covering) and must be taken into account to model the data accurately.
Moreover, the choice of spectral model (i.e., free vs. fixed photon index) has
a pronounced effect on the derived N_H distribution and, to a lesser extent,
the X-ray luminosity distribution. Ten of the 136 AGN (~7%) show significant Fe
Kalpha emission-line features with equivalent widths in the range 0.1-1.3 keV.
Two of these emission-line AGN could potentially be Compton thick (i.e., Gamma
< 1.0 and large Fe Kalpha equivalent width). Finally, we find that 81 (~60%) of
the 136 AGN show signs of variability, and that this fraction increases
significantly (~80-90%) when better photon statistics are available.Comment: Submitted to Advances in Space Research for New X-ray Results from

Socially impaired robots: Human social disorders and robots’ socio-emotional intelligence
© Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014. Social robots need intelligence in order to safely coexist and interact with humans. Robots without functional abilities in understanding others and unable to empathise might be a societal risk and they may lead to a society of socially impaired robots. In this work we provide a survey of three relevant human social disorders, namely autism, psychopathy and schizophrenia, as a means to gain a better understanding of social robots’ future capability requirements.We provide evidence supporting the idea that social robots will require a combination of emotional intelligence and social intelligence, namely socio-emotional intelligence. We argue that a robot with a simple socio-emotional process requires a simulation-driven model of intelligence. Finally, we provide some critical guidelines for designing future socio-emotional robots
Innovation and HRM : absences and politics
This article analyses the role of HRM practices in the implementation of an innovative cross-functional approach to new product development (concurrent engineering, CE) in Eurotech Industries. Contrary to CE methodology stipulations, and despite supportive conditions, HRM received scant attention in the implementation process. Organizational power and politics were clearly involved in this situation, and this article explores how their play created such HRM ‘absences’. The article builds on a four-dimensional view of power in order to provide a deeper understanding of the embedded, interdependent and political nature of HRM practice and innovation.<br /
Subaru Studies of the Cosmic Dawn
An overview on the current status of the census of the early universe
population is given. Observational surveys of high redshift objects provide
direct opportunities to study the early epoch of the Universe. The target
population included are Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAE), Lyman Break Galaxies (LBG),
gravitationally lensed galaxies, quasars and gamma-ray bursts (GRB). The basic
properties of these objects and the methods used to study them are reviewed.
The present paper highlights the fact that the Subaru Telescope group made
significant contributions in this field of science to elucidate the epoch of
the cosmic dawn and to improve the understanding of how and when infant

Search for Charged Higgs Bosons at LEP
A search for pair-produced charged Higgs bosons is performed with the L3
detector at LEP using data collected at centre-of-mass energies between 189 and
209GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 629.4/pb. Decays into a
charm and a strange quark or into a tau lepton and its neutrino are considered.
No significant excess is observed and lower limits on the mass of the charged
Higgs boson are derived at the 95% confidence level. They vary from 76.5 to
82.7GeV, as a function of the H->tv branching ratio
Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in e+e- Collisions at Centre-of-Mass Energies up to 202 GeV
A search for pair-produced charged Higgs bosons is performed with the L3
detector at LEP using data collected at centre-of-mass energies between 192 and
202 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 233.2 pb^-1. Decays into
a charm and a strange quark or into a tau lepton and its neutrino are
considered. The observed events are consistent with the expectations from
Standard Model background processes. Including data taken at lower
centre-of-mass energies, lower limits on the charged Higgs mass are derived at
the 95% confidence level. They vary from 67.4 to 79.9GeV as a function of the
H^+/- --> tau nu branching ratio
Search for R-parity Violating Decays of Supersymmetric Particles in e+e- Collisions at LEP
A search, in e^+e^- collisions, for chargino, neutralino, scalar lepton and
scalar quark pair-production is performed, without assuming R-parity
conservation in decays, in the case that only one of the coupling constants
lambda_ijk or lambda''_ijk is non-negligible. No signal is found in data up to
a centre-of-mass energy of 208GeV. Limits on the production cross sections and
on the masses of supersymmetric particles are derived
