A Discussion about Computational Challenges of Programmable Money in Blockchain-based CBDCs
This article discusses the implementation of programmable money on DLT-based
CBDCs. After briefly introducing what programmable money is, we enumerate some
initiatives worldwide and discuss the critical steps for implementation. We
look at the challenges from the Computer Science perspective. Four aspects were
analyzed: architectural design, security, scalability, and energy consumption
Bis(acetato-κ2 O,O′)bis(2-aminopyridine-κN)nickel(II)
The title complex, [Ni(C2H3O2)2(C5H6N2)2], has a distorted octahedral geometry around the Ni atom. Intermolecular and intramolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds exist in the crystal structure
Genome sequences of five African swine fever virus genotype IX isolates from domestic pigs in Uganda
Complete genome sequences of five African swine fever virus isolates were determined directly from clinical material obtained from domestic pigs in Uganda. Four sequences were essentially identical to each other, and all were closely related to the only known genome sequence of p72 genotype IX

Necessidade de cuidados paliativos em pacientes com insuficiência cardíaca avançada internados em um hospital terciário
Objective: To evaluate the need for palliative care in patients with advanced Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) hospitalized in a cardiology ward. Method: Application of the World Health Organization Palliative Needs tool (NECPAL) with the assistant physician, patient and/or caregiver for evaluation of indication of Palliative Care (PC). Results: 82 patients with a diagnosis of class III/IV Heart Failure or ejection fraction less than or equal to 40% in echocardiography of the last 12 months were included: Mean age 68 ± 20 years, 51 male patients and 31 female patients. Forty-three patients (52.4%) were married or in consensual union and ten (12%) lived alone. The death of 46 patients (56.1%) in the subsequent 12 months would not surprise their physician, and forty-five patients (55%) had palliative care indication according to the NECPAL. Conclusion: About half of patients hospitalized for class III/IV Heart Failure would have an indication of Palliative Care for the relief of suffering caused by the disease
Improving light harvesting in polymer photodetector devices through nanoindented metal mask films
To enhance light harvesting in organic photovoltaic devices, we propose the incorporation of a metal (aluminum) mask film in the system’s usual layout. We fabricate devices in a sandwich geometry, where the mask (nanoindented with a periodic array of holes of sizes d and spacing s) is added between the transparent electrode and the active layer formed by a blend of the semiconducting polymer P3HT and substituted fullerene. Its function is to promote trapping of the incident light into the device’s cavity (the region corresponding to the active layer). For d, we set a value that allows light diffraction through the holes in the relevant absorption range of the polymer. To optimize the mask structure, we consider a very simple model to determine the s leading to trapped fields that are relatively intense and homogeneous within the device. From measurements of the action spectra, we show that, indeed, such architecture can considerably improve the resulting photocurrent efficiencies—one order of magnitude in the best situation studied.
An estimate of \Omega_m without priors
Using mean relative peculiar velocity measurements for pairs of galaxies, we
estimate the cosmological density parameter and the amplitude of
density fluctuations . Our results suggest that our statistic is a
robust and reproducible measure of the mean pairwise velocity and thereby the
parameter. We get and . These estimates do not depend on prior assumptions on
the adiabaticity of the initial density fluctuations, the ionization history,
or the values of other cosmological parameters.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, slight changes to reflect published versio
