Constraining primordial non-Gaussianity with cosmological weak lensing: shear and flexion
We examine the cosmological constraining power of future large-scale weak
lensing surveys on the model of \emph{Euclid}, with particular reference to
primordial non-Gaussianity. Our analysis considers several different estimators
of the projected matter power spectrum, based on both shear and flexion, for
which we review the covariances and Fisher matrices. The bounds provided by
cosmic shear alone for the local bispectrum shape, marginalized over
, are at the level of . We consider
three additional bispectrum shapes, for which the cosmic shear constraints
range from (equilateral shape) up to (orthogonal shape). The competitiveness of cosmic
flexion constraints against cosmic shear ones depends on the galaxy intrinsic
flexion noise, that is still virtually unconstrained. Adopting the very high
value that has been occasionally used in the literature results in the flexion
contribution being basically negligible with respect to the shear one, and for
realistic configurations the former does not improve significantly the
constraining power of the latter. Since the flexion noise decreases with
decreasing scale, by extending the analysis up to
cosmic flexion, while being still subdominant, improves the shear constraints
by when added. However on such small scales the highly non-linear
clustering of matter and the impact of baryonic physics make any error
estimation uncertain. By considering lower, and possibly more realistic, values
of the flexion intrinsic shape noise results in flexion constraining power
being a factor of better than that of shear, and the bounds on
and being improved by a factor of upon

The Role of Power-Law Correlated Disorder in the Anderson Metal-Insulator Transition
We study the influence of scale-free correlated disorder on the
metal-insulator transition in the Anderson model of localization. We use
standard transfer matrix calculations and perform finite-size scaling of the
largest inverse Lyapunov exponent to obtain the localization length for
respective 3D tight-binding systems. The density of states is obtained from the
full spectrum of eigenenergies of the Anderson Hamiltonian. We discuss the
phase diagram of the metal-insulator transition and the influence of the
correlated disorder on the critical exponents.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
What has changed in canine pyoderma? A narrative review
Canine pyoderma is a common presentation in small animal practice and frequently leads to prescription of systemic antimicrobial agents. A good foundation of knowledge on pyoderma was established during the 1970s and 1980s, when treatment of infection provided relatively few challenges. However, the ability to treat canine pyoderma effectively is now limited substantially by the emergence of multidrug-resistant, methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRS) and, in some countries, by restrictions on antimicrobial prescribing for pets. The threat from rising antimicrobial resistance and the zoonotic potential of MRS add a new dimension of public health implications to the management of canine pyoderma and necessitate a revisit and the search for new best management strategies. This narrative review focusses on the impact of MRS on how canine pyoderma is managed and how traditional treatment recommendations need to be updated in the interest of good antimicrobial stewardship. Background information on clinical characteristics, pathogens, and appropriate clinical and microbiological diagnostic techniques, are reviewed in so far as they can support early identification of multidrug-resistant pathogens. The potential of new approaches for the control and treatment of bacterial skin infections is examined and the role of owner education and hygiene is highlighted. Dogs with pyoderma offer opportunities for good antimicrobial stewardship by making use of the unique accessibility of the skin through cytology, bacterial culture and topical therapy. In order to achieve long term success and to limit the spread of multidrug resistance, there is a need to focus on identification and correction of underlying diseases that trigger pyoderma in order to avoid repeated treatment
