On the radial expansion of tubular structures in a quark gluon plasma
We study the radial expansion of cylindrical tubes in a hot QGP. These tubes
are treated as perturbations in the energy density of the system which is
formed in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. We start from the equations of
relativistic hydrodynamics in two spatial dimensions and cylindrical symmetry
and perform an expansion of these equations in a small parameter, conserving
the nonlinearity of the hydrodynamical formalism. We consider both ideal and
viscous fluids and the latter are studied with a relativistic Navier-Stokes
equation. We use the equation of state of the MIT bag model. In the case of
ideal fluids we obtain a breaking wave equation for the energy density
fluctuation, which is then solved numerically. We also show that, under certain
assumptions, perturbations in a relativistic viscous fluid are governed by the
Burgers equation. We estimate the typical expansion time of the tubes
Wnt/β-catenin signaling stimulates the expression and synaptic clustering of the autism-associated Neuroligin 3 gene
Indexación: Scopus.Synaptic abnormalities have been described in individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The cell-adhesion molecule Neuroligin-3 (Nlgn3) has an essential role in the function and maturation of synapses and NLGN3 ASD-associated mutations disrupt hippocampal and cortical function. Here we show that Wnt/β-catenin signaling increases Nlgn3 mRNA and protein levels in HT22 mouse hippocampal cells and primary cultures of rat hippocampal neurons. We characterized the activity of mouse and rat Nlgn3 promoter constructs containing conserved putative T-cell factor/lymphoid enhancing factor (TCF/LEF)-binding elements (TBE) and found that their activity is significantly augmented in Wnt/β-catenin cell reporter assays. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays and site-directed mutagenesis experiments revealed that endogenous β-catenin binds to novel TBE consensus sequences in the Nlgn3 promoter. Moreover, activation of the signaling cascade increased Nlgn3 clustering and co-localization with the scaffold PSD-95 protein in dendritic processes of primary neurons. Our results directly link Wnt/β-catenin signaling to the transcription of the Nlgn3 gene and support a functional role for the signaling pathway in the dysregulation of excitatory/inhibitory neuronal activity, as is observed in animal models of ASD.https://www.nature.com/articles/s41398-018-0093-y.pd
Analysis of environmental conditions in two different Compost Bedded Pack Barn systems for dairy cattle
Received: February 1st, 2023 ; Accepted: April 27th, 2023 ; Published: May 10th, 2023 ; Correspondence: [email protected], [email protected] objective of this study was to analyse and compare the thermal environment of
dairy cattle facilities in an open compost bedded pack barn (CBP) with natural ventilation and
closed CBP (without thermal insulation) and climate control system. The research was conducted
in a property located in Zona da Mata, Minas Gerais, Brazil. During the summer and for different
periods of the day, the following average environmental variables observed inside the facilities
were measured: dry bulb temperature, relative humidity and Temperature and Humidity Index
(THI). The results were submitted to an analysis of variance to determine the significance of the
variables in the different treatments. It was found that the closed and climate control system CBP
promoted greater control of the facility's internal microclimate, registering smaller thermal
amplitudes and a greater reduction in the animals' exposure time to stressful thermal conditions,
compared to the CBP with natural ventilation. However, during summer afternoons, comfort
indices indicated moderate stress. It is concluded that the closed CBP, regarding the analysed
variables, indicated potential use, provided that a careful study of the climate of the region is
carried out before implementation, the factors related to the ambient conditioning and better
insulation of the construction are adjusted. The climatic variables inside the open CBP indicated
a high stress condition for the animals, suggesting the placement of positive pressure fans and
sprinklers properly distributed in the feed alley, to guarantee benefits to the entire area of the
animal housing
A Massive Cluster at z = 0.288 Caught in the Process of Formation: The Case of Abell 959
The largest galaxy clusters are observed still to be forming through major
cluster-cluster mergers, often showing observational signatures such as radio
relics and giant radio haloes. Using LOFAR Two-meter Sky Survey data, we
present new detections of both a radio halo (with a spectral index of
) and a likely radio relic in Abell
959, a massive cluster at a redshift of z=0.288. Using a sample of clusters
with giant radio haloes from the literature (80 in total), we show that the
radio halo in A959 lies reasonably well on the scaling relations between the
thermal and non-thermal power of the system. Additionally, we find evidence
that steep-spectrum haloes tend to reside in clusters with high X-ray
luminosities relative to those expected from cluster LM scaling relations,
indicating that such systems may preferentially lie at an earlier stage of the
merger, consistent with the theory that some steep-spectrum haloes result from
low-turbulence mergers. Lastly, we find that halo systems containing radio
relics tend to lie at lower X-ray luminosities, relative to those expected from
cluster LM scaling relations, for a given halo radio power than those without
relics, suggesting that the presence of relics indicates a later stage of the
merger, in line with simulations

The anti-NGF antibody muMab 911 both prevents and reverses pain behaviour and subchondral osteoclast numbers in a rat model of osteoarthritis pain
Objective: Nerve growth factor (NGF) has a pivotal role in peripheral hyperalgesia and inflammation; anti-NGF antibodies attenuate pain responses in inflammatory pain models, and in people with osteoarthritis (OA) or low back pain. The aim of this study was to characterise the peripheral mechanisms contributing to the analgesic effects of anti-NGF antibody treatment in an established model of joint pain, which mimics key clinical features of OA.
Design: Effects of preventative vs therapeutic treatment with an anti-NGF antibody (monoclonal antibody 911: muMab 911 (10 mg/kg, s.c.)) on pain behaviour (weight bearing asymmetry and hindpaw withdrawal thresholds (PWT)), cartilage damage, synovitis and numbers of subchondral osteoclasts were investigated in the monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) model. Potential direct effects of NGF on receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL) mediated osteoclastogenesis were investigated in cultured human osteoclasts.
Results: Intra-articular MIA injection resulted in significant pain behaviour, cartilage damage, synovitis and increased numbers of subchondral osteoclasts. Both preventative and therapeutic treatment with muMab 911 significantly prevented, or reversed, MIA-induced pain behaviour, but did not alter cartilage or synovial pathology quantified at the end of the treatment period. NGF did not facilitate RANKL driven osteoclast differentiation in vitro, but preventative or therapeutic muMab 911 reduced numbers of TRAP positive osteoclasts in the subchondral bone.
Conclusions: We demonstrate that anti-NGF antibody treatment attenuates OA pain behaviour despite permitting cartilage damage and synovitis. Indirec
Review on retrospective procedures to correct retinal motion artefacts in OCT imaging
Motion artefacts from involuntary changes in eye fixation remain a major imaging issue in optical coherence tomography (OCT). This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of retrospective procedures to correct retinal motion and axial eye motion artefacts in OCT imaging. Following an overview of motion induced artefacts and correction strategies, a chronological survey of retrospective approaches since the introduction of OCT until the current days is presented. Pre-processing, registration, and validation techniques are described. The review finishes by discussing the limitations of the current techniques and the challenges to be tackled in future developments
