    Estudio de la incidencia de las lesiones en el tenis. Revisión bibliográfica

    Introducción, el tenis es uno de los deportes más practicados en el mundo, sus lesiones pueden ser un grave problema para los jugadores tanto a nivel amateur como en la élite. Objetivo/s, realizar una categorización de las lesiones que se provocan en el tenis basándonos en su prevalencia. Material y métodos, se realiza una búsqueda bibliográfica en 4 bases de datos, mediante las palabras clave dichas a continuación junto a los conectores AND y OR, con todo ello, se hace un filtrado en cada una de las bases, siguiendo los criterios de inclusión y exclusión establecidos, quedando finalmente 13 artículos a revisión. Resultados, de esos 13, tenemos 8 estudios observacionales que estudian la prevalencia de las lesiones, y 5 artículos de los que, un estudio observacional y uno transversal estudiaban las lesiones de hombro, 1 estudio transversal que analizaba los tipos de pista, 1 ensayo clínico que evaluaba la efectividad de un calentamiento específico para el tenis, y un estudio observacional que investigaba el tiempo que se perdía en las diferentes lesiones. Conclusión, tanto en él tenis masculino como en el femenino, las zonas que más se lesionan son el hombro y el tobillo, el uso de la fisioterapia en el tenis debe poner el objetivo en la prevención de esguinces de tobillo y el trabajo de fuerza y estabilidad en las zonas del hombro, MMII y tronco, además de que se necesita continuar haciendo estudios, y que la muestra de cada estudio sea más representativa.Introduction, tennis is one of the most practiced sports in the world, its injuries can be a serious problem for players both at the amateur and elite levels. Objective/s, to categorize the injuries that are caused in tennis based on their prevalence. Material and methods, a bibliographic search is carried out in 4 databases, using the keywords mentioned below together with the AND and OR connectors, with all this, a filter is made in each of the bases, following the inclusion criteria. and exclusion established, finally leaving 13 articles for review. Results, of these 13, we have 8 observational studies that study the prevalence of injuries, and 5 articles of which, an observational study and a cross-sectional study studied shoulder injuries, 1 cross-sectional study that analyzed the types of surfaces, 1 clinical trial that evaluated the effectiveness of a specific warm-up for tennis, and an observational study that investigated the time lost in different injuries. Conclusion, both in male and female tennis, the areas that are most injured are the shoulder and the ankle, the use of physiotherapy in tennis should focus on the prevention of ankle sprains and strength work and stability in the shoulder, MMII and trunk areas, in addition to the need to continue doing studies, and that the sample of each study be more representative

    A Multi-Hazard Extreme Climate Index across Europe

    The ECI is a multi-hazard index which has been developed in the context of the eXtreme Climate Facilities (XCF) project lead by ARC (African Risk Capacity) with the objective of detecting the occurrence of climate extremes over the African continent. The main hazards covered by ECI are the extreme dry, wet and heat events. However, the definition of ECI allows for the integration of additional hazards in the same index. The index has been designed and widely tested across Africa. The objective of this study is to test the usability and potential application of the same index under different climate regimes that are typical of the mid-latitudes, including the Mediterranean area and northern Europe. The analysis presented in this study shows that the ECI allows an accurate detection of extreme cold/heat waves as well as events of abundant precipitation across Europe over the last decade

    Patient-reported outcomes and complication rates after lateral maxillary sinus floor elevation: a prospective study

    Objectives Oral surgery morbidity is highly variable based on patients' characteristics and kind of surgical intervention. However, poor data are available in the literature regarding patient outcomes after oral surgery. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate patient-reported outcome and complication rates after maxillary sinus floor elevation. Materials and methods Data from the records of patients undergoing maxillary sinus elevation have been collected from a private dental office. Patient-reported outcome has been assessed using a 100-mm visual analog scale to evaluate the post-operative pain (VAS(pain)) experienced in the first week following surgery and visual rating scales to evaluate discomfort level (VRSdiscomfort: 0 to 4) and willingness to repeat the same surgical procedure (VRSwillingness: 0 to 3). Analgesics intake, swelling onset and duration, and ecchymosis have been also recorded. Results VAS(pain) showed moderate values in the first 2 days (< 50) post-surgery, with a tendency to progressively decrease over the next 2 days. Average assumption of painkillers was 3.93 +/- 3.03. Discomfort level (VRSdiscomfort) after surgery was low (median: 1; IR: 1-0), while willingness to undergo the same surgical procedure was very high (77.63% of patients). Swelling and ecchymosis were experienced by 97.36% and 51.32% of patients, respectively, with a mean duration of 4.09 +/- 1.43 and 2.21 +/- 2.31 days, respectively. Membrane perforation occurred in 4 cases. Other post-operative complications were not observed. Conclusions Maxillary sinus grafting is a safe procedure, with a low complication rate and moderate morbidity that is well tolerated by patients. Particular attention is needed in case selection, surgical planning and operator expertise. © 2021, The Author(s)

    Estudio técnico de las pinturas murales de Germolles: la contribución de las técnicas de imagen

    [EN] The Château de Germolles is one of the rare palace in France dating from the 14th century. The noble floor is decorated with wall paintings that are a unique example of courtly love spirit that infused the princely courts of the time. After being concealed sometime in the 19th century, the paintings were rediscovered and uncovered in the middle of the 20th century and partly restored at the end of the 1990s. No scientific documentation accompanied these interventions and important questions, such as the level of authenticity of the mural decorations and the original painting technique(s) used in the medieval times remained unanswered. The combined scientific and financial supports of COSCH Cost Action and DRAC-Burgundy enabled to study Germolles’ wall paintings using some of the most innovative imaging and analytical techniques and to address some of the questions raised. The study provided significant information on the material used in the medieval times and on the conservation condition of the paintings. The data collected is vast and varied and exposed the owners of the property to the challenges of data management.[ES] El castillo de Germolles es uno de los raros palacios principescos en Francia que data del siglo XIV.     Electronic structure of few-layer black phosphorus from μ\mu-ARPES

    Black phosphorus (BP) stands out among two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors because of its high mobility and thickness dependent direct band gap. However, the quasiparticle band structure of ultrathin BP has remained inaccessible to experiment thus far. Here we use a recently developed laser-based micro-focus angle resolved photoemission (μ\mu-ARPES) system to establish the electronic structure of 2-9 layer BP from experiment. Our measurements unveil ladders of anisotropic, quantized subbands at energies that deviate from the scaling observed in conventional semiconductor quantum wells. We quantify the anisotropy of the effective masses and determine universal tight-binding parameters which provide an accurate description of the electronic structure for all thicknesses.Comment: Supporting Information available upon reques

    The polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) inhibitor NMS-P937 is effective in a new model of disseminated primary CD56+ acute monoblastic leukaemia

    CD56 is expressed in 15–20% of acute myeloid leukaemias (AML) and is associated with extramedullary diffusion, multidrug resistance and poor prognosis. We describe the establishment and characterisation of a novel disseminated model of AML (AML-NS8), generated by injection into mice of leukaemic blasts freshly isolated from a patient with an aggressive CD56+ monoblastic AML (M5a). The model reproduced typical manifestations of this leukaemia, including presence of extramedullary masses and central nervous system involvement, and the original phenotype, karyotype and genotype of leukaemic cells were retained in vivo. Recently Polo-Like Kinase 1 (PLK1) has emerged as a new candidate drug target in AML. We therefore tested our PLK1 inhibitor NMS-P937 in this model either in the engraftment or in the established disease settings. Both schedules showed good efficacy compared to standard therapies, with a significant increase in median survival time (MST) expecially in the established disease setting (MST = 28, 36, 62 days for vehicle, cytarabine and NMS-P937, respectively). Importantly, we could also demonstrate that NMS-P937 induced specific biomarker modulation in extramedullary tissues. This new in vivo model of CD56+ AML that recapitulates the human tumour lends support for the therapeutic use of PLK1 inhibitors in AML

    Catching allergy by a simple questionnaire

    Background: Identifying allergic rhinitis requires allergy testing, but the first-line referral for rhinitis are usually primary care physicians (PCP), who are not familiar with such tests. The availability of easy and simple tests to be used by PCP to suggest allergy should be very useful. Methods: The Respiratory Allergy Prediction (RAP) test, based on 9 questions and previously validated by a panel of experts, was evaluated in this study. Results: An overall number of 401 patients (48.6% males, age range 14-62 years) with respiratory symptoms was included. Of them, 89 (22.2%) showed negative results to SPT, while 312 (77.8%) had at least one positive result to SPT. Cohen's kappa coefficient showed that all questions had an almost perfect excellent agreement between pre and post-test. The algorithm of decision-tree growth Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detector showed that answering yes to the question 4 (Your nasal/ocular complains do usually start or worsen during the spring?), 6 (Did you ever had cough or shortness of breath, even during exercise?) and 8 (Do you use nasal sprays frequently?) gave a probability to have a positive SPT of 85%. Conclusions: These findings show that RAP test can be proposed as an useful tool to be used by physician other than allergists when evaluating patients with rhinitis, suggesting the need of allergy testing

    European Atlas of Natural Radiation

    Natural ionizing radiation is considered as the largest contributor to the collective effective dose received by the world population. The human population is continuously exposed to ionizing radiation from several natural sources that can be classified into two broad categories: high-energy cosmic rays incident on the Earth’s atmosphere and releasing secondary radiation (cosmic contribution); and radioactive nuclides generated during the formation of the Earth and still present in the Earth’s crust (terrestrial contribution). Terrestrial radioactivity is mostly produced by the uranium and thorium radioactive families together with potassium. In most circumstances, radon, a noble gas produced in the radioactive decay of uranium, is the most important contributor to the total dose. This Atlas aims to present the current state of knowledge of natural radioactivity, by giving general background information, and describing its various sources. This reference material is complemented by a collection of maps of Europe displaying the levels of natural radioactivity caused by different sources. It is a compilation of contributions and reviews received from more than 80 experts in their field: they come from universities, research centres, national and European authorities and international organizations. This Atlas provides reference material and makes harmonized datasets available to the scientific community and national competent authorities. In parallel, this Atlas may serve as a tool for the public to: • familiarize itself with natural radioactivity; • be informed about the levels of natural radioactivity caused by different sources; • have a more balanced view of the annual dose received by the world population, to which natural radioactivity is the largest contributor; • and make direct comparisons between doses from natural sources of ionizing radiation and those from man-made (artificial) ones, hence to better understand the latter.JRC.G.10-Knowledge for Nuclear Security and Safet
