The purpose of this paper is to determine and investigate the online purchase intention among Filipino non-Muslim consumers towards Halal food. The fact could be explained by the increased number of consumers who were ready to purchase Halal products. Aside from Muslims, who expends Halal products due to devout obligations, it is understood that non-Muslims have also started eating halal food. Utilizing multiple regression analysis, four models were tested and perceived risk, trust and confidence, website design quality, and online shopping enjoyment have been explored in this study to investigate the influence of Halal food towards online purchase intention among non-Muslim consumers using quantitative research method. Perceived Risk has been identified to be the most significant in predicting factors in an online purchase intention of Halal food. Furthermore, future studies are suggested to include additional variables such as consumers’ habits and knowledge of halal foo

Domestication and foreignization in the translation into English and Spanish of the work of Haruki Murakami

Translation in the English-speaking world follows guidelines that normally are more domesticating than the ones used in other cultures, e.g., the Spanish culture. A greater degree of domestication means a more fluid reading experience, but at a risk of dropping cultural ítems embedded in the original text in the process. In this paper, we will analyze this phenomenon by examining the translations into Spanish and English of three novels by Haruki Murakami

The main goal of the AWARTECH project (Animal Welfare Adjusted Real Time Envi ronmental Conditions of Housing) was to develop an innovative precision livestock tool that will support and reinforce the pig value chain, through the management of solutions based on monitoring, analysis and control of environmental, physiological, behaviour and animal performances parameters. Environmental data was collected by sensors of temperature, relative humidity, air velocity and gas concentration, which are integrated in an environmental control system (Webisense) and in a platform (Nidus). Webisense controlled the ventilation system, the cooling system and the heating system. The rectal and body surface temperatures were registered manual and automatically. In order to monitor the behaviour of the animals, video cameras were installed. An individual feeding machine equipped with a scale has been also installed. This equipment allow, through an RFID system, the individual monitoring and control of the amount of food supplied and ingested; the number and duration of visits; and the animal’s weight. The development of the AWARTECH platform resulted from the integration of data provided by Webisense, Nidus, feeding machine and video analytics as well as physiological data. This platform allows the control the environmental conditions based on welfare indicators promoting animal welfare

Circuit design for quantum machine learning remains a formidable challenge. Inspired by the applications of tensor networks across different fields and their novel presence in the classical machine learning context, one proposed method to design variational circuits is to base the circuit architecture on tensor networks. Here, we comprehensively describe tensor-network quantum circuits and how to implement them in simulations. This includes leveraging circuit cutting, a technique used to evaluate circuits with more qubits than those available on current quantum devices. We then illustrate the computational requirements and possible applications by simulating various tensor-network quantum circuits with PennyLane, an open-source python library for differential programming of quantum computers. Finally, we demonstrate how to apply these circuits to increasingly complex image processing tasks, completing this overview of a flexible method to design circuits that can be applied to industrially-relevant machine learning tasks

A machine learning based Distributed Congestion Control Protocol for multi-hop wireless networks

    Get PDF
The application areas of multi-hop wireless networks are expected to experience sustained growth in the next years. This growth will be further supported by the current possibility of providing low-cost communication capabilities to any device. One of the main issues to consider with this type of networks is congestion control, that is, avoiding an excessive volume of data traffic that could lead to a loss of performance. In this work, a distributed congestion control mechanism is proposed for generic multi-hop networks. Different categories of data traffic are taken into account, each of them with different quality of service requirements. The mechanism is based on machine learning techniques, specifically, the CatBoost algorithm that uses gradient boosting on decision trees. The obtained decision trees are used to predict whether the packets to be transmitted over the network will reach their destination on time or not. This prediction will be made based on the network load state, which will be quantified by means of two parameters: the utilization factor of the different transmission channels, and the occupancy of the buffers of the network nodes. To make the values of these parameters available to all nodes in the network, an appropriate dissemination protocol has also been designed. Besides, a method to assign different transmission priorities to each traffic category, based on the estimation of the network resources required at any time, has also been included. The complete system has been implemented and evaluated through simulations, which show the correct functionality and the improvements obtained in terms of packet delivery ratio, network transit time, and traffic differentiation.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
