B-mode Detection with an Extended Planck Mission

The Planck satellite has a nominal mission lifetime of 14 months allowing two complete surveys of the sky. Here we investigate the potential of an extended Planck mission of four sky surveys to constrain primordial B-mode anisotropies in the presence of dominant Galactic polarized foreground emission. An extended Planck mission is capable of powerful constraints on primordial B-modes at low multipoles, which cannot be probed by ground based or sub-orbital experiments. A tensor-scalar ratio of r=0.05 can be detected at a high significance level by an extended Planck mission and it should be possible to set a 95% upper limit on r of 0.03 if the tensor-scalar ratio is vanishingly small. Furthermore, extending the Planck mission to four sky surveys offers better control of polarized Galactic dust emission, since the 217 GHz frequency band can be used as an effective dust template in addition to the 353 GHz channel.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

tbWt \to b W in NonCommutative Standard Model

We study the top quark decay to b quark and W boson in the NonCommutative Standard Model (NCSM). The lowest contribution to the decay comes from the terms quadratic in the matrix describing the noncommutative (NC) effects while the linear term is seen to identically vanish because of symmetry. The NC effects are found to be significant only for low values of the NC characteristic scale.Comment: 11 page Latex file containing 2 eps figures (redrawn). More discussion included. A Performance Analysis Framework for WiFi/WiMAX Heterogeneous Metropolitan Networks Based on Cross-Layer Design

The communication between network nodes within different protocol domains is often regarded simply as a black box with unknown configuration conditions in the path. We address network heterogeneity using a white box approach and focus on its interconnection processes. To achieve this purpose, a Performance Analysis Framework (PAF) is proposed which is composed of the formalization of the latter using process algebra (PA) and the corresponding teletraffic performance models. In this contribution, we target the IEEE 802.16 and IEEE 802.11 protocols. For the teletraffic models, we extend previous models for such scenario with the inclusion of the following protocol operational parameters (metrics): bit error rate (BER), packet error ratio (PER), and packet length (pl). From the framework teletraffic models, the optimal packet length (OPL), end to end throughput, delay, and packet loss are obtained. The PAF outperforms previous modeling solutions in terms of delay and throughput relative to NS3 simulation results. </jats:p

Recent advances in neutrinoless double beta decay search

Even after the discovery of neutrino flavour oscillations, based on data from atmospheric, solar, reactor, and accelerator experiments, many characteristics of the neutrino remain unknown. Only the neutrino square-mass differences and the mixing angle values have been estimated, while the value of each mass eigenstate still hasn't. Its nature (massive Majorana or Dirac particle) is still escaping. Neutrinoless double beta decay (0ν0\nu-DBD) experimental discovery could be the ultimate answer to some delicate questions of elementary particle and nuclear physics. The Majorana description of neutrinos allows the 0ν0\nu-DBD process, and consequently either a mass value could be measured or the existence of physics beyond the standard should be confirmed without any doubt. As expected, the 0ν0\nu-DBD measurement is a very difficult field of application for experimentalists. In this paper, after a short summary of the latest results in neutrino physics, the experimental status, the R&D projects, and perspectives in 0ν0\nu-DBD sector are reviewed.Comment: 36 pages, 7 figures, To be publish in Czech Journal of Physic

The confining-Higgs phase transition in U(1)-Higgs LGT

Abstract We simulate the compact U(1)-Higgs model in a four-dimensional lattice. We present a numerical study for the behaviour around the region where the transition between the confining and Higgs phases disappears. The transition line is found to be first order and to end in a second-order point. We measure the critical exponents of the endpoint obtaining the mean field ones within errors

Human cortical organoids expose a differential function of GSK3 on cortical neurogenesis

The regulation of the proliferation and polarity of neural progenitors is crucial for the development of the brain cortex. Animal studies have implicated glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) as a pivotal regulator of both proliferation and polarity, yet the functional relevance of its signaling for the unique features of human corticogenesis remains to be elucidated. We harnessed human cortical brain organoids to probe the longitudinal impact of GSK3 inhibition through multiple developmental stages. Chronic GSK3 inhibition increased the proliferation of neural progenitors and caused massive derangement of cortical tissue architecture. Single-cell transcriptome profiling revealed a direct impact on early neurogenesis and uncovered a selective role of GSK3 in the regulation of glutamatergic lineages and outer radial glia output. Our dissection of the GSK3-dependent transcriptional network in human corticogenesis underscores the robustness of the programs determining neuronal identity independent of tissue architecture

Analysis of the influence of the different times of polymerization by incandescent light in composite resins by evaluation of its abrasive wear

At the odontologic market the composed resins are becoming more and more used to replace old materials, like amalgamates in the aesthetic and functional restorations, since they present a better appearance and easier manuscript. The chemical composition of these materials varies and the results of the chemical reactions of polymerization processes are quite unknown. The aim of this work was to measure the resistance of the abrasive wear of six composed resins sold in Brazilian market when displayed to polymerization periods of 10, 20 and 40 seconds. The grinding disc method appropriated for odontology was used to make this process possible. For this a bank of assays in which a porcelain covered dynamic disc consumes a static disc recovered by the polymerized resin is used to demonstrate the method in a pre-established time. The abrasive wear was determined by the calculation of the aggressiveness (capacity of a material to consume another). This aggressiveness is determined by an initial graph of displacement for time, through the computational method (LabView program). After they have passed through a linear regression the results give as a possibility the angular coefficient, considered a parameter at the calculation of aggressiveness. Higher values of aggressiveness which means a higher aggression suffered by the resin disc indicate worse resistance to the abrasive consuming of this resin in relation to porcelain. The results showed a variable comportment for each material ahead the different polymerization time, which prove the importance in create a practical and fast analyses method to test new materials before their us
