Nowadays we are in the information era, our society needs specific information to their needs, and in many times this represents the success or failure of a company. Is for his reason that the social media have become a very important information channel, which using it properly could help us to achieve very important goals. In this paper, a new control-oriented modeling methodology for the thermal dynamics of water-cooled Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) is presented and validated. This methodology is not only useful for control applications, but also can be used for predicting the temperature variation across the stack, allowing to monitor its operation. The methodology has been validated in a real 600-W, 20-cells, water cooled PEMFC, with encouraging results for both the stationary and the transient states. Results show that the proposed methodology is accurate and suitable for control purposes.Peer Reviewe

Despite its nonpartisan policy, its construction was mediated by the centrifuge dynamic which affected the anti-Francoist forces as a whole during the years of the transition to democracy. The union reached 1979 as one of the few surviving unitarian trade unions. This paper proposes to explore its origins, construction and consolidation in the political change context, of which it was a fundamental agent in the Catalan countrysid

Pixinwav: Residual steganography for hiding pixels in audio

    Get PDF
Steganography comprises the mechanics of hiding data in a host media that may be publicly available. While previous works focused on unimodal setups (e.g., hiding images in images, or hiding audio in audio), PixInWav targets the multimodal case of hiding images in audio. To this end, we propose a novel residual architecture operating on top of short-time discrete cosine transform (STDCT) audio spectrograms. Among our results, we find that the residual steganography setup we propose allows an encoding of the hidden image that is independent from the host audio without compromising quality. Accordingly, while previous works require both host and hidden signals to hide a signal, PixInWav can encode images offline—which can be later hidden, in a residual fashion, into any audio signal.Work partially supported by the European Union through the Erasmus+ student mobility program, Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) under grant numbers SFI/15/SIRG/3283 and SFI/12/RC/2289 P2, and the Spanish Research Agency (AEI) under project PID2020117142GB-I00 of the call MCIN/ AEI /10.13039/501100011033.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Prolonged vs short-term infusion of β-lactam antibiotics for the treatment of febrile neutropenia: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: The optimisation of the use of beta-lactam antibiotics (BLA) via prolonged infusions in life-threatening complications such as febrile neutropenia (FN) is still controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the efficacy of this strategy in onco-haematological patients with FN. Methods: A systematic search was performed of PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, EMBASE, World Health Organization, and ClinicalTrials.gov, from database inception until December 2022. The search included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies that compared prolonged vs short-term infusions of the same BLA. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. Secondary outcomes were defervescence, requirement of vasoactive drugs, length of hospital stay and adverse events. Pooled risk ratios were calculated using random effects models. Results: Five studies were included, comprising 691 episodes of FN, mainly in haematological patients. Prolonged infusion was not associated with a reduction in all-cause mortality (pRR 0.83; 95% confidence interval 0.47-1.48). Nor differences were found in secondary outcomes. Conclusions: The limited data available did not show significant differences in terms of all-cause mortality or significant secondary outcomes in patients with FN receiving BLA in prolonged vs. short-term infusion. High-quality RCTs are needed to determine whether there are subgroups of FN patients who would benefit from prolonged BLA infusion. (c) 2023 The Author(s). Characterization of the copper transporters from lotus spp. and their involvement under flooding conditions

Forage legumes are an important livestock nutritional resource, which includes essential metals, such as copper. Particularly, the high prevalence of hypocuprosis causes important economic losses to Argentinian cattle agrosystems. Copper deficiency in cattle is partially due to its low content in forage produced by natural grassland, and is exacerbated by flooding conditions. Previous results indicated that incorporation of Lotus spp. into natural grassland increases forage nutritional quality, including higher copper levels. However, the biological processes and molecular mechanisms involved in copper uptake by Lotus spp. remain poorly understood. Here, we identify four genes that encode putative members of the Lotus copper transporter family, denoted COPT in higher plants. A heterologous functional complementation assay of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae ctr1∆ctr3∆ strain, which lacks the corresponding yeast copper transporters, with the putative Lotus COPT proteins shows a partial rescue of the yeast phenotypes in restrictive media. Under partial submergence conditions, the copper content of L. japonicus plants decreases and the expression of two Lotus COPT genes is induced. These results strongly suggest that the Lotus COPT proteins identified in this work function in copper uptake. In addition, the fact that environmental conditions affect the expression of certain COPT genes supports their involvement in adaptive mechanisms and envisages putative biotechnological strategies to improve cattle copper nutrition.Fil: Escaray, Francisco José. The effect of titanium dioxide surface modification on the dispersion, morphology, and mechanical properties of recycled PP/PET/TiO2 PBNANOs

    Get PDF
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles have recently appeared in PET waste because of the introduction of opaque PET bottles. We prepare polymer blend nanocomposites (PBNANOs) by adding hydrophilic (hphi), hydrophobic (hpho), and hydrophobically modified (hphoM) titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles to 80rPP/20rPET recycled blends. Contact angle measurements show that the degree of hydrophilicity of TiO2 decreases in the order hphi > hpho > hphoM. A reduction of rPET droplet size occurs with the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles. The hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance controls the nanoparticles location. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM_ shows that hphi TiO2 preferentially locates inside the PET droplets and hpho at both the interface and PP matrix. HphoM also locates within the PP matrix and at the interface, but large loadings (12%) can completely cover the surfaces of the droplets forming a physical barrier that avoids coalescence, leading to the formation of smaller droplets. A good correlation is found between the crystallization rate of PET (determined by DSC) and nanoparticles location, where hphi TiO2 induces the highest PET crystallization rate. PET lamellar morphology (revealed by TEM) is also dependent on particle location. The mechanical behavior improves in the elastic regime with TiO2 addition, but the plastic deformation of the material is limited and strongly depends on the type of TiO2 employed
