Evaluation of the Impact of a Tourniquet Training Program: A Cross-Sectional Study
Acknowledgments: The company Manzanal Mamphel SA provided the necessary tourniquets for
the pretest and post-test phases of the study (480 devices).Among the main preventable causes of death in the area of operations is external exsanguinating
hemorrhage in the extremities, hence the importance of the tourniquet as a therapeutic
tool in this type of injury and, therefore, of the training of personnel participating in international
missions. The main objective of this study is to determine the impact of training in the application
of this device. This is a quasi-experimental, prospective, cross-sectional study, carried out with
97 healthy volunteers, military personnel who perform their work in the Royal Guard barracks of
El Pardo. The study was conducted between June 2019 and July 2021. The correct determination of
the device placement site and the times of correct device placement were evaluated by determining
whether there was blood flow using Doppler ultrasound measurements. Statistically significant
results were obtained for application time (76.68 s to 58.06 s; p < 0.001), correct device placement
(p < 0.001), and achievement of complete ischemia in the upper extremity (23.7% pretest vs. 24.7%
post-test; p < 0.001). In the lower extremity, after training, longer application duration (43.33 s to
47.30 s) and lower ischemia achievement (59.8% pretest vs. 37.8% post-test) were obtained. Standardized
and regulated training improves device application. More intensive training is necessary to
obtain better results

asociar a hombres y mujeres (López Sáez, 1995).
humanas y de la salud, los chicos se decantan por ramas más técnicas (Gaviria, 1994;
obligatoria?
Palabras clave: toma de decisiones, adolescentes, género, orientación.This work analyzes the decision making in the adolescence. For that reason, a clear
definition of this concept is needed as well as the characteristics of the adolescence and the
changes experienced in it. The adolescence is a stage where a number of
biopsychosociocultural changes are glimpsed, where the young evolve trying to clear their
paths to the beginning of their adulthood. One of the main and more relevant stages are the
secondary school centers where an important part of the adolescence transition is developed.
There are several theories in the present about the adolescence and how our society
influences in the decision making of the young from a gender perspective. The professional
choices keep being marked by gender stereotypes to a great extent. This is based in the belief
of the distinct psychosocial characteristics associated to men and women in our society
(López Sáez, 1995). Therefore, while females value and lean towards studies and professions
related to human and health science and law, males choose more technical branches (Gaviria,
1994; Rodríguez Alemán, 2004; Rodríguez, Torio y Fernández, 2006). Even inside the same
degree there are feminized specializations. In words of López Sáez (1995) we could talk about
feminine studies (the ones females choose and males reject) and male studies (the ones
females reject).
Through our study we will arise the questions: Which academic and profession decision
makes the student body at the end of secondary school? Are there gender differences in the
decision making of the student body at the end of secondary school?
Keywords: decision making, adolescence, gender, orientation
Analysis of Postural Control in Sitting by Pressure Mapping in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury and Friedreich’s Ataxia: A Case Series Study
[EN], The postural control assessments in patients with neurological diseases lack reliability and sensitivity to small changes in patient functionality. The appearance of pressure mapping has allowed quantitative evaluation of postural control in sitting. This study was carried out to determine the evaluations in pressure mapping and verifying whether they are different between the three sample groups (multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and Friedreich’s ataxia), and to determine whether the variables extracted from the pressure mapping analysis are more sensitive than functional tests to evaluate the postural trunk control. A case series study was carried out in a sample of 10 adult patients with multiple sclerosis (n = 2), spinal cord injury (n = 4) and Friedreich’s ataxia (n = 4).
The tests applied were: pressure mapping, seated Lateral Reach Test, seated Functional Reach Test, Berg Balance Scale, Posture and Postural Ability Scale, Function in Sitting Test, and Trunk Control Test. The participants with Friedreich’s ataxia showed a tendency to present a higher mean pressure on the seat of subject’s wheelchair compared to other groups. In parallel, users with spinal cord injury showed a tendency to present the highest values of maximum pressure and area of contact. People with different neurological pathologies and similar results in functional tests have very different results in the pressure mapping. Although it is not possible to establish a strong statistical correlation, the relationships between the pressure mapping variables and the functional tests seem to be numerous, especially in the multiple sclerosis group.S
Cardiac protein changes in ischaemic and dilated cardiomyopathy: A proteomic study of human left ventricular tissue
The development of heart failure (HF) is characterized by progressive alteration of left ventricle structure and function. Previous works on proteomic analysis in cardiac tissue from patients with HF remain scant. The purpose of our study was to use a proteomic approach to investigate variations in protein expression of left ventricle tissue from patients with ischaemic (ICM) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Twenty-four explanted human hearts, 12 from patients with ICM and 12 with DCM undergoing cardiac transplantation and six non-diseased donor hearts (CNT) were analysed by 2DE. Proteins of interest were identified by mass spectrometry and validated by Western blotting and immunofluorescence. We encountered 35 differentially regulated spots in the comparison CNT versus ICM, 33 in CNT versus DCM, and 34 in ICM versus DCM. We identified glyceraldehyde 3-phophate dehydrogenase up-regulation in both ICM and DCM, and alpha-crystallin B down-regulation in both ICM and DCM. Heat shock 70 protein 1 was up-regulated only in ICM. Ten of the eleven differentially regulated proteins common to both aetiologies are interconnected as a part of a same network. In summary, we have shown by proteomics analysis that HF is associated with changes in proteins involved in the cellular stress response, respiratory chain and cardiac metabolism. Although we found altered expression of eleven proteins common to both ischaemic and dilated aetiology, we also observed different proteins altered in both groups. Furthermore, we obtained that seven of these eleven proteins are involved in cell death and apoptosis processes, and therefore in HF progression
Designing a rubric for secondary teachers’ in-training evaluation by school supervisors
[EN] During the five years of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education in the University of Leon (Spain)
we have detected some difficulties concerning the evaluation process of the Practicum
competencies. The fact that both academic tutors and educational supervisors participate in the
evaluation of this subject makes it even more complex. Initially, it was decided that the academic
tutors would evaluate the subject competencies through a portfolio, whereas the supervisors
would focus on the students' abilities and skills during their teaching practice. However, we
observed that some of the competencies could not be evaluated though portfolios, since they required the supervisors' involvement. The objective of this work was to describe the actionresearch
process developed to design a rubric to assess competencies. This instrument was created
to facilitate the supervisors' evaluation task by enabling them to lead their students' learning as
well as to evaluate and assess it by applying clear and coherent criteria. The process of the rubric
design took four steps: 1) designing the formative evaluation tool; 2) disseminating it among the
teaching agents; 3) monitoring its use at school; 4) analysing and assessing the results. We can
conclude that the use of the rubric has led to 1) improvement of the tutoring process; 2) better
coordination between the school supervisors and the university tutors; 3) a more efficient
evaluation and assessment system
Complex structural ordering of the oxygen deficiency in La_-0.5 Ca_2.5Mn_2O_7-delta Ruddlesden-Popper phases
Ruddlesden-Popper oxides, (AO)(ABO_3))_n, occupy a prominent place in the landscape of materials research because of their intriguing potential applications. Compositional modifications to the cation sublattices, A or B, have been explored in order to achieve enhanced functionalities. However, changes to the anionic sublattice have been much less explored. In this work, new oxygen-deficient manganese Ruddlesden-Popper-related phases, La_0.5Ca_2.5Mn_2O_6.5, and La_0.5Ca_2.5Mn_2O_6.25, have been synthesized by controlled reduction of the fully oxidized n = 2 term La_0.5Ca_2.5Mn_2O_7. A complete structural and compositional characterization, by means of neutron diffraction, electron diffraction and atomically resolved scanning transmission electron microscopy and electron energy-loss spectroscopy techniques, allows the proposition of a topotactic reduction pathway through preferential oxygen removal in the [MnO_2] layers along [031] and [013] directions. The gradual decrease of the Mn oxidation state, accommodated by short-range ordering of anionic vacancies, reasonably explains the breaking of ferromagnetic interactions reinforcing the emergence of antiferromagnetic ones. Additional short-range order-disorder phenomena of La and Ca cations have been detected in the reduced La_0.5Ca_2.5Mn_2º_7-delta, as previously reported in the parent compound
