di Andy Warhol: «their art business isn’t (or shouldn’t) be art
museum business»1 (A. Warhol, 1975).
suoi collezionisti2.
moglie Marguerite all’apertura nel 1964 dell’omonima
fondazione a Saint Paul de Vence dichiara: «Avevo bisogno
all’elemento della trasformazione diventa interessante associare
contemporanea in Sicilia.
dichiarazioni dell’allora direttore Sergio Alessandro poi
artisti noti e meno noti.
internazionali, come Carla Accardi, Pietro Consagra, Salvatore
contemporaneo in particolare.
vive in Sicilia. Tra questi, l’attenzione viene posta su tre artisti,
Hilde Margani Escher, Juan Esperanza e Nelida Amada
Flexible and Efficient Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Tool for Advanced Comb-Line Rectangular Waveguide Filters
[EN] A very flexible and efficient computer-aided design (CAD) tool, specifically suited for advanced comb-line rectangular waveguide filters, is presented in this work. The developed software tool, which makes use of a full-wave analysis technique based on the Boundary Integral-Resonant Mode Expansion method, allows loading the considered comb-line resonators with any number of radially symmetrical partial-height metallic posts. The implemented CAD tool also allows dealing with coupling windows of arbitrary cross-section, thus drastically enhancing the flexibility of the CAD process. The excitation of the analyzed components, which is performed using generalized coaxial probes, has also been integrated in the implemented software tool, thus achieving a full-wave electromagnetic characterization of the whole component. Furthermore, a novel simple procedure to efficiently connect all the obtained wide-band matrices is proposed. To validate the accuracy and efficiency of this novel CAD tool, several new designs concerning advanced band-pass comb-line waveguide filters are presented. The accuracy of the developed CAD tool has been successfully validated by comparing the obtained results with numerical data provided by a commercial tool based on the finite-element method. Efficient boundary integral-resonant mode expansion method implementation for full-wave analysis of passive devices based on circular waveguides with arbitrary perturbations
This paper is a preprint of a paper submitted to IET Microwaves Antennas and Propagation and is subject to Institution of Engineering and Technology Copyright. If accepted, the copy of record will be available at IET Digital LibraryIn this study, the efficient full-wave analysis of passive devices composed of circular and arbitrarily-shaped waveguides is considered. For this purpose, the well-known boundary integral-resonant mode expansion (BI RME) method has been properly extended. Circular waveguides are used for resonant mode expansion, whereas the arbitrary contour is defined by any combination of straight, circular and elliptical segments, thus allowing the exact representation of the most widely used geometries. The proposed algorithm extends previous implementations of the BI RME method based on circular waveguides by considering circular and elliptical arcs for defining arbitrary geometries. Similarly, it allows the efficient analysis of passive devices based on circular waveguides with arbitrary perturbations, thus providing more accurate results with less computational efforts than a rectangular waveguide-based BI RME approach. The extended method has been successfully tested with several practical application examples, having compared its performance with the BI RME method based on rectangular waveguides. This work was supported by Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion, Spanish Government, under Research Project TEC2010-21520-C04-01.Carceller Candau, C.; Cogollos Borras, S.; Soto Pacheco, P.; Gil Raga, J.; Boria Esbert, VE.; Vicente Quiles, CP.; Gimeno Martinez, B. Properties of Nanocrystals-formulated Aluminosilicate Bricks
In the present work, seven different types of nanocrystals were studied as additives in the formulation of aluminosilicate bricks. The considered nanocrystals consisted of anatase titanium dioxide (two differently shaped types), boron modified anatase, calcium carbonate (in calcite phase), aluminium hydroxide and silicon carbide (of two diverse sizes), which were prepared using different methods. Syntheses aim to give a good control over a particle’s size and shape. Anatase titania nanocrystals, together with the nano-aluminium hydroxide ones, were synthesized via microwave-assisted procedures, with the use of different additives and without the final calcination steps. The silicon carbide nanoparticles were prepared via laser pyrolysis. The nano-calcium carbonate was prepared via a spray drying technique. All of the nanocrystals were tested as fillers (in 0.5, 1 and 2 wt. % amounts) in a commercial aluminosilicate refractory (55 % Al2O3, 42 % SiO2). They were used to prepare bricks that were thermally treated at 1300 °C for 24 hours, according to the international norms. The differently synthesized nanocrystals were added for the preparation of the bricks, with the aim to improve their heat-insulating and/or mechanical properties. The nanocrystals-modified refractories showed variations in properties, with respect to the untreated aluminosilicate reference in heat-insulating performances (thermal diffusivities were measured by the “hot disk” technique). In general, they also showed improvements in mechanical compression resistance for all of the samples at 2 wt. %. The best heat insulation was obtained with the addition of nano-aluminium hydroxide at 2 wt. %, while the highest mechanical compression breaking resistance was found with nano-CaCO3 at 2 wt. %. These outcomes were investigated with complementary techniques, like mercury porosimetry for porosity, and Archimedes methods to measure physical properties like the bulk and apparent densities, apparent porosities and water absorption. The results show that the nano-aluminium hydroxide modified bricks were the most porous, which could explain the best heat-insulating performances. There is a less straightforward explanation for the mechanical resistance results, as they may have relations with the characteristics of the pores. Furthermore, the nanoparticles may have possible reactions with the matrix during the heat treatments
Hybrid mode matching method for the efficient analysis of rods in waveguide structures
Traditionally metallic waveguide filters have been used commercially for microwave applications. These filters have very reduced insertion losses within their operating frequency band and their construction is considerably economic. On the other hand, metallic filters have significant drawbacks, especially when they are designed for satellite and other spatial applications, since their weight and size may very often be too high and due to the lack of atmosphere, the Multipactor effect limits considerably the power that the filters can handle. This problems can be reduced by using new topologies of H-plane waveguide filters loaded with dielectric resonators. Nevertheless the analysis and design of these filters is far more complex than the one of all metallic filters, due to their special topology. Efficient mathematical tools are required for this analysis and this paper presents a new hybrid mode matching method for the efficient analysis of rods in waveguided structures. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Rigorous evaluation of propagation losses in arbitrarily shaped waveguide structures using boundary integral resonant mode expansion and perturbation of boundary conditions
This paper is a preprint of a paper submitted to IET Microwaves Antennas and Propagation and is subject to Institution of Engineering and Technology Copyright. If accepted, the copy of record will be available at IET Digital LibraryThe accurate consideration of propagation losses in arbitrarily shaped waveguide-based structures is studied in this paper. For such a purpose, a software tool based on the perturbation of the boundary conditions on the waveguide metallic walls and on the boundary integral resonant mode expansion method has been developed. To show the advantages of the proposed technique with respect to the classic power-loss method, the complex propagation wavenumbers of a double ridge and an elliptical waveguide have been first computed and compared with results of a commercial software based on the finite element technique. Next a circular, a sectorial shaped and a triangular shaped waveguide have been considered. Then, a computer-aided design software package based on this modal analysis tool has been applied to predict the propagation loss effects in complex waveguide structures, such as an evanescent mode ridge waveguide filter, a traditional dual mode filter with circular cavities and a twist component for K-band applications. This work has been supported by the Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (MINECO), Spanish Government, by the coordinated R&D project TEC 2010-21520-C04 and the Grant JC 2009-0221, and by University of Alicante under the project GRE 10-22.Marini, S.; Soto Pacheco, P.; Mattes, M.; Gimeno Martinez, B.; Bleda Pérez, S.; Vidal Pantaleoni, A.; Boria Esbert, VE. Evaluation of time domain electromagnetic fields radiated by constant velocity moving particles traveling along an arbitrarily shaped cross-section waveguide using frequency domain Green's functions
A technique for the accurate computation of the time domain electromagnetic fields radiated by a charged distribution traveling along an arbitrarily shaped waveguide region is presented. Based on the transformation (by means of the standard Fourier analysis) of the time-varying current density of the analyzed problem to the frequency domain, the resulting equivalent current is further convolved with the dyadic electric and magnetic Green's functions. Moreover, we show that only the evaluation of the transverse magnetic modes of the structure is required for the calculation of fields radiated by particles traveling in the axial direction. Finally, frequency domain electric and magnetic fields are transformed back to the time domain, just obtaining the total fields radiated by the charged distribution. Furthermore, we present a method for the computation of the wakefields of arbitrary cross-section uniform waveguides from the resulting field expressions. Several examples of charged particles moving in the axial direction of such waveguides are included. The authors would like to thank ESA/ESTEC for having cofunded this research activity through the Network Partnering Initiative program and through the project "Multipactor Analysis in Planar Transmission Lines" (contract 20841/08/NL/GLC). Compensation of the impact of low-cost manufacturing techniques in the design of E-plane multiport waveguide junctions
In this work, a full-wave tool for the accurate analysis and design of compensated E-plane multiport junctions is proposed. The implemented tool is capable of evaluating the undesired effects related to the use of low-cost manufacturing techniques, which are mostly due to the introduction of rounded corners in the cross section of the rectangular waveguides of the device. The obtained results show that, although stringent mechanical effects are imposed, it is possible to compensate for the impact of the cited low-cost manufacturing techniques by redesigning the matching elements considered in the original device. Several new designs concerning a great variety of E-plane components (such as right-angled bends, T-junctions and magic-Ts) are presented, and useful design guidelines are provided. The implemented tool, which is mainly based on the boundary integral-resonant mode expansion technique, has been successfully validated by comparing the obtained results to simulated data provided by a commercial software based on the finite element method. All the data necessary to understand, evaluate, replicate, and generate the figures and results presented in this paper have been included in the present manuscript. A full-wave custom code and the commercial software Ansys HFSS have been used to generate the simulated results provided by the authors. An efficient integral equation technique for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped capacitive waveguide circuits
In this contribution a new and efficient integral equation formulation is presented for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped capacitive waveguide devices. The technique benefits from the symmetry of the structure in order to reduce the dimensions of the problem from three to two dimensions. For the first time, this technique formulates the waveguide capacitive discontinuity problem as a 2-D scattering problem with oblique incidence, combined with an efficient calculation of the parallel plate Green's functions. The numerical method allows the efficient evaluation of the electromagnetic fields inside the analyzed structures. Results for different practical capacitive waveguide devices are successfully compared with commercial software tools for validation of the proposed theory. Finally, a novel low-pass filter implementation based on circular conducting posts has been proposed. The field contour lines in the critical gaps of the new structure are curved due to the use of rounded posts. This could result in improved power handling capabilities with respect to standard corrugated low-pass filters.
