Nuevas formas informativas: el periodismo de datos y su enseñanza en el contexto universitario

Data journalism is a journalistic specialization which is growing by the hand of Information and Communications Technology. In this descriptive research we will explain what this concept exactly is, what its historical roots are and we will see some examples made to their guidelines. In addition, we will pay attention at the main masters and postgraduate courses, in Spain and in other countries, which include it in their curricula. We will observe how Spanish educational offer in this area is insufficient.El periodismo de datos es una especialización periodística pujante, que está creciendo de la mano de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación. En este estudio descriptivo explicaremos en qué consiste exactamente este concepto, cuáles son sus raíces históricas y veremos algunos ejemplos elaborados según sus directrices. Además, nos detendremos en los principales másteres y posgrados, tanto españoles como extranjeros, que lo incluyen en sus planes de estudio. Observaremos cómo la oferta educativa española resulta insuficiente en este terreno

Revisión del mito geográfico de San Borondón y aproximación a su huella en la literatura y otras artes

Since in the sixth century Irish monk St. Brendan forged the myth of San Borondón, this imaginary territory has been part of hundreds of stories of travelers and different artistic expressions. In this paper we will make a tour of its origin and the speeches of travelers because, especially between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, they helped to social consolidation of this mysterious island of Canary Islands. In addition, we will study how the myth was reflected in Spanish literary works from different genres as well as other types of artistic representations, such as music.Desde que en siglo VI el monje irlandés San Brandán fraguó el mito de San Borondón, este territorio imaginario ha formado parte de cientos de historias de viajeros y de diferentes manifestaciones artísticas. En este trabajo realizaremos un recorrido por su origen y los discursos de los viajeros que, especialmente entre los siglos XVI y XIX, ayudaron en la consolidación social de esta isla misteriosa del archipiélago canario. Las celebraciones del III y IV Centenario del Quijote en Hispanoamérica a través de la prensa española de 1905 y 2005

This article analyzes the coverage that the Spanish press provided to Spanish American celebrations for the Third and Fourth Centenary of the publication of the first part of Don Quixote, events that took place in 1905 and 2005, respectively. By the study of a total of twenty-one newspapers, which include El Imparcial, El Liberal and La Correspondencia de España, of the first period, and El País, El Mundo and La Vanguardia of the second, we will find out how they lived both centenaries in Spanish America, how important were these tributes in the press and, furthermore, we will know the concrete symbolic meaning that the popular Spanish nobleman acquired in either period.En este artículo se analiza la cobertura que brindó la prensa española a las celebraciones organizadas en Hispanoamérica con motivo del III y el IV Centenario de la publicación de la primera parte del Quijote, efemérides que tuvieron lugar en 1905 y 2005, respectivamente. El estudio de un total de veintiuna cabeceras, entre las que figura El Imparcial, El Liberal o La Correspondencia de España, del primer periodo, y El País, El Mundo o La Vanguardia del segundo, nos permitirá averiguar cómo se vivieron ambos centenarios en Hispanoamérica, qué importancia tuvieron en la prensa estos homenajes y, además, podremos extraer el carácter simbólico concreto que adquirió el hidalgo manchego en uno y otro periodo

La imagen poética en la obra de Margarita Ferreras según Gaston Bachelard

Pez en la tierra is the only book published by Margarita Ferreras, a small piece of erotic and avantgarde poetry that saw light in 1932, thanks to Concha Méndez and Manuel Altolaguirre’s printing shop. In addition approaching the life of this unknown author, in this paper we study how the poetic imagery behaves in her poems, following the reading methodology developed by Gaston Bachelard, which focuses his analysis on the four elements: water, air, fire and earth.Pez en la tierra es el único libro que publicó Margarita Ferreras, una pequeña obra de poesía vanguardista y erótica que vio la luz en 1932, gracias a la imprenta de Concha Méndez y Manuel Altolaguirre. La evolución del periodismo de precisión: el blog de The Guardian sobre periodismo de datos

technological advances in recent years have contributed to the emergence of new forms of journalism, among which is data journalism. This is known as an evolution of precision journalism, which is based on documentary research. In this new type of journalism, the data and software that handle them become indispensable to the information, which can be materialize in the form of reports and in computer interactive graphics. In this study, in addition to approach this concept, its roots and its challenges for the future in Spain, we will explore one of the best examples of this new type of journalism: Datablog, of the British newspaper The Guardian. This microsite, one of the pioneers in this type of information, has become a role model for other traditional newspapers, who see in this kind of blogs a form of experimentation related to new journalistic specializations.los avances tecnológicos de los últimos años han propiciado la aparición de nuevas formas de hacer periodismo, entre las que destaca el periodismo de datos. Este es una evolución del conocido como periodismo de precisión, en cuya base se encuentra la investigación documental. En esta nueva modalidad periodística, los datos y los programas informáticos que los tratan se convierten en indispensables para las informaciones, que pueden materializarse tanto en forma de reportajes como en infografías interactivas. En este estudio, además de acercarnos a este concepto, sus raíces y sus retos en España de cara al futuro, analizaremos uno de los mejores ejemplos de este nuevo tipo de periodismo: el Datablog, del diario británico The Guardian. Este micromedio, uno de los pioneros en este tipo de informaciones, se ha convertido en un modelo a seguir para otros periódicos tradicionales, que ven en esta modalidad de blogs una forma de experimentar con nuevas especializaciones periodísticas

Spanish media coverage of journalistic artificial intelligence: relevance, topics and framing

La inteligencia artificial (IA) se ha convertido en un tema muy discutido debido a su implementación en muchas áreas, incluida la periodística. Se examina la cobertura de la IA periodística en medios escritos españoles, particularmente la relevancia otorgada, los temas tratados y el encuadre desde el que se aborda, mediante un análisis de contenido cuantitativo y un análisis estadístico. La IA periodística solo aparece como tema principal en un tercio de los casos, está cada vez más presente, se distribuye en más secciones y aparece principalmente en piezas escritas por periodistas de los medios. Predominan los textos informativos, pero son los periodistas quienes escriben la mayoría de los interpretativos y prácticamente todos los opinativos, promoviendo así el conocimiento y el debate público. Se ocupan principalmente de la aplicación más extendida de la IA, que es la automatización, muy por encima de los problemas laborales y éticos. La IA periodística suele enmarcarse más desde sus beneficios que de sus riesgos, pero recientemente se observan algunos cambios: una creciente preocupación por sus peligros e implicaciones éticas; la detección de abundantes piezas con encuadre personal, donde los periodistas hablan de su profesión y del uso de ChatGPT; y una creciente relevancia del encuadre episódico con el desarrollo de productos de IA. Este estudio podría haber examinado todo tipo de medios, aunque habría ido más allá de la naturaleza exploratoria de esta investigación pionera. Con este trabajo ampliamos la producción científica sobre IA periodística en España, donde esta perspectiva no ha sido analizada.Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a much-discussed topic due to its implementation in many areas, including journalism. This article examines the coverage of journalistic AI in Spanish written media, in particular the relevance allocated to it, the topics that are addressed, and the framing from which it is approached. Quantitative content analysis and statistical analysis were used. Although journalistic AI only appears as the main topic in a third of cases, it is increasingly present, it is distributed across more sections, and it mostly appears in self-written articles. Despite informative texts prevailing, journalists author the majority of interpretative and practically all opinion pieces, thus increasing knowledge and promoting public debate. They deal largely with the most widespread application of AI, which is news automation, ranking well above the issues of job loss and ethics. Although journalistic AI is generally framed from a perspective of its benefits rather than from its risks, some recent changes are observed: growing concern about its dangers and its ethical implications; the detection of numerous pieces with a Personal Frame, where journalists reflect on their profession and the use of ChatGPT; and the growing relevance of the Episodic Frame as specific AI products develop. This study could have examined all types of media, although that approach would have gone beyond the exploratory nature of this pioneering research.
