Design of an RSFQ Control Circuit to Observe MQC on an rf-SQUID

We believe that the best chance to observe macroscopic quantum coherence (MQC) in a rf-SQUID qubit is to use on-chip RSFQ digital circuits for preparing, evolving and reading out the qubit's quantum state. This approach allows experiments to be conducted on a very short time scale (sub-nanosecond) without the use of large bandwidth control lines that would couple environmental degrees of freedom to the qubit thus contributing to its decoherence. In this paper we present our design of a RSFQ digital control circuit for demonstrating MQC in a rf-SQUID. We assess some of the key practical issues in the circuit design including the achievement of the necessary flux bias stability. We present an "active" isolation structure to be used to increase coherence times. The structure decouples the SQUID from external degrees of freedom, and then couples it to the output measurement circuitry when required, all under the active control of RSFQ circuits. São Paulo state is one of the major milk producer region in Brazil and in this aspect until last decade the municipality of Tupã was most prominent. This city had a decrease in the milk production of around 20%, from 2002 to 2005. There are many facts which might have restrained that milk production chain as a whole to have prevented it to become more competitive. One of the main restraining factors for its development is the quality of the product offered to the final consumer. Considering that this work aims to make a diagnose of the agents which compound that milk production chain in the region of Tupã, SP, aiming to observe whether there are management tools being used for quality management and describe what they are, and identify possible lacks and propose solutions. The method selected for the empirical part is the case study which was made viable by means of interviews with the agent’s participants and researcher observations. This study indicates that the agents in this production chain have different interests. The milk producers are not aware of quality management tools whilst supermarkets are not committed to contribute for building and preserving the quality of milk products. Finally, a model to improve the coordination of the agents in this production chain in order to improve the quality of the product was proposed.milk production chain, quality management and quality product.,

Real time plasma disruptions detection in JET implemented with the ITMS platform using FPGA based IDAQ

The use of FPGAs in data acquisition cards for processing purposes allows an efficient real time pattern recognition algorithm implementation. Using 13 JETs database waveforms an algorithm for detecting incoming plasma disruptions has been implemented. This algorithm is written in MATLAB using floating point representation. In this work we show the methodology used to implement the real time version of the algorithm using Intelligent Data Acquisition Cards (IDAQ), DAQ devices with field programmable gate array (FPGA) for local processing. This methodology is based on the translation of the MATLAB code to LabVIEW and the final coding of specific pieces of code in LabVIEW for FPGA in fixed point format. The whole system for evaluating the real time disruption detection (RTDD) has been implemented using the Intelligent Test and Measurement System (ITMS) platform. ITMS offers distributed data acquisition, distribution and real time processing capabilities with advanced, but easy to use, software tools that simplify application development and system setup. The RTDD implementation uses a standard PXI/PXIe architecture. Two 8 channel analog output cards play JETs database signals, two 8 channel DAQ with FPGA acquire signals and computes a feature vector based in FFT analysis. Finally the vector acquired is used by the system CPU to execute a pattern recognition algorithm to estimate an incoming disruption

Meaningful learning applied to communication university teaching in Spain during the pandemic. An asynchronous collaborative experience

    Get PDF
The pandemic led education systems to switch immediately to online learning, in many cases without the necessary period of design and adaptation of teaching tools. In many cases with no specific training in online teaching, the lecturers had to adapt their classes to a permanent virtual space, usually abusing synchronous teaching. This literal adaptation of the methodologies used in the classroom to the online learning scene, in addition to aspects such as periods of lock-in, required physical distance and overexposure to digital media, have caused significant tiredness among students, who reported difficulties in maintaining their attention in synchronous lectures. This paper presents a proposal implemented in 5 subjects of Spanish communication degrees by two professors who had previous experience in e-learning education. Our aim is analysing the usefulness of class diary writing in a collaborative and asynchronous process for each student in the whole class. For studying this tool, two methods have been developed in each of the subjects: the participant observation and satisfaction surveys on the use of the personal diary

Exploiting graphic processing units parallelism to improve intelligent data acquisition system performance in JET's correlation reflectometer

    Get PDF
The performance of intelligent data acquisition systems relies heavily on their processing capabilities and local bus bandwidth, especially in applications with high sample rates or high number of channels. This is the case of the self adaptive sampling rate data acquisition system installed as a pilot experiment in KG8B correlation reflectometer at JET. The system, which is based on the ITMS platform, continuously adapts the sample rate during the acquisition depending on the signal bandwidth. In order to do so it must transfer acquired data to a memory buffer in the host processor and run heavy computational algorithms for each data block. The processing capabilities of the host CPU and the bandwidth of the PXI bus limit the maximum sample rate that can be achieved, therefore limiting the maximum bandwidth of the phenomena that can be studied. Graphic processing units (GPU) are becoming an alternative for speeding up compute intensive kernels of scientific, imaging and simulation applications. However, integrating this technology into data acquisition systems is not a straight forward step, not to mention exploiting their parallelism efficiently. This paper discusses the use of GPUs with new high speed data bus interfaces to improve the performance of the self adaptive sampling rate data acquisition system installed on JET. Integration issues are discussed and performance evaluations are presente

    Get PDF
The article, whose discussion is focused on the thematic of death, propose an approach of the poems “Lembrança de Morrer”, by Álvares de Azevedo, and “Quando eu Morrer”, by Mário de Andrade, in order to demonstrate, on the one hand, resonances of Romanticism in Brazilian modern poetry and, on the other hand, the differences that interpose in the modern appropriation or stylization of romantic legacy. We intend, therefore, to analyze some thematic axis of the romantic poetry which systematically found echo in Brazilian modern poetry, in order to observe the resignification of death and posterity in the famous poem of Mário de Andrade.
