This work presents the contents of the course “Web 2.0: Service Oriented Architecture on Java” from the Graduate School of the University of Granada. The course objective is to familarize students with Web Services programming. Due to the wide variety of available technologies, several subjects are presented: the usage of well-defined protocols to contract and communication (SOAP and WSDL), web services creation using JAX-WS, and service orchestration with BPEL. At the end of the course, students will be capable to create, use and manage Web Services for business applications, using new or available services in the web, and also their logical orchestration.Peer Reviewe

Robust Tracking of Bio-Inspired References for a Biped Robot Using Geometric Algebra and Sliding Mode Control

Controlling walking biped robots is a challenging problem due to its complex and uncertain dynamics. In order to tackle this, we propose a sliding mode controller based on a dynamic model which was obtained using the conformal geometric algebra approach (CGA). The CGA framework permits us to use lines, points, and other geometric entities, to obtain the Lagrange equations of the system. The references for the joints of the robot were bio-inspired in the kinematics of a walking human body. The first and second derivatives of the reference signal were obtained through an exact robust differentiator based on high order sliding mode. The performance of the proposed control schemes are illustrated through simulation.ITESO, A.C

Experimental energy performance assessment of a solar desiccant cooling system in Southern Europe climates

Solar desiccant cooling systems, SDEC, could be an effective alternative to conventional cooling systems, which mainly depend on electrical energy. The main objective of this work was to determine experimentally the seasonal coefficient of performance, SCOP, of a SDEC system composed of a desiccant wheel, an indirect evaporative cooler and a thermal solar system, to control indoor conditions in a research lab room. The dependence of coefficient of performance on outdoor air conditions and percentage of renewable energy used by the SDEC system were also analysed. Experimental tests were carried out for six weeks during spring and summer seasons in Martos, Spain. The experimental results showed that the SDEC system independently adjusted the temperature and humidity of the supply air. 75% of the energy consumed by this air handling system comes from renewable sources. A seasonal coefficient of performance of the SDEC system of 2 was obtained for the period analysed. It is shown that the higher the outdoor temperature, the higher instantaneous COPs is. These results suggest that the use of SDEC systems in hot climates, such as southern European climates, could contribute to achieve the EU's energy goals within the frame of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings

Atomic absorption spectroscopy has permitted the determination of the content of heavy metals and their distribution in sediments of the Odiel Saltmarhes (SWSpain). Avery high metal concentration has been found in most of the samples investigated but their distribution is non-homogeneous and this prevents establishing a geographical pattern. Nevertheless, a certain topographic gradient can be observed: lower levels present the highest concentrations whereas areas unaccessible by tide fluctuations or those exposed to the sea present the lowest index of contamination

We studied 201 patients (80% female; median age, 54 years; median disease duration, 5.4 months) from PEARL study. Demographic, clinical, laboratory and therapeutic data were collected at each visit. IL-6 serum levels were measured by enzyme immune assay. The rs7574865 was genotyped using TaqMan probes. The expression levels of STAT4 mRNA were determined at 182 visits from 69 patients using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. STAT4 protein was assessed by western blot in 62 samples from 34 patients. To determine the effect of different variables on the expression of STAT4 mRNA and protein, we performed multivariate longitudinal analyses using generalized linear models. This work was supported by grants awarded to IGA from the RETICS Program (RD08/0075/0004 and RD12/0009/0017 [RIER]) and FIS Program (PI11/0551) and to JM from RETICS Program (RD08/0075/0011 and RD12/0009/0004 [RIER]) from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (www.isciii.es).
