An additive map T : A → B is called a weighted Jordan homomorphism if c = T (1) is an invertible central element and cT (x2) = T (x)2 for all x ∈ A. We provide assumptions, which are in particular fulfilled when A = B = Mn(R) with n ≥ 2 and R any unital ring with 1 2 , under which every surjective additive map T : A → B with the property that T (x)T (y) + T (y)T (x) = 0 whenever xy = yx = 0 is a weighted Jordan homomorphism. Further, we show that if A is a prime ring with char(A) 6= 2, 3, 5, then a bijective additive map T : A → A is a weighted Jordan homomorphism provided that there exists an additive map S : A → A such that S(x2) = T (x)2 for all x ∈ A.Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) Grant P1- 0288MCIU/AEI/FEDER Grant PGC2018-093794- B-I00Junta de Andalucía Grant FQM-185MIU Grant FPU18/00419 MIU Grant EST19/0046

Synthesis, Photochemical, and Redox Properties of Gold(I) and Gold(III) Pincer Complexes Incorporating a 2,2′:6′,2″-Terpyridine Ligand Framework

Reaction of [Au(C6F5)(tht)] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) with 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine (terpy) leads to complex [Au(C6F5)(η1-terpy)] (1). The chemical oxidation of complex (1) with 2 equiv of [N(C6H4Br-4)3](PF6) or using electrosynthetic techniques affords the Au(III) complex [Au(C6F5)(η3-terpy)](PF6)2 (2). The X-ray diffraction study of complex 2 reveals that the terpyridine acts as tridentate chelate ligand, which leads to a slightly distorted square-planar geometry. Complex 1 displays fluorescence in the solid state at 77 K due to a metal (gold) to ligand (terpy) charge transfer transition, whereas complex 2 displays fluorescence in acetonitrile due to excimer or exciplex formation. Time-dependent density functional theory calculations match the experimental absorption spectra of the synthesized complexes. In order to further probe the frontier orbitals of both complexes and study their redox behavior, each compound was separately characterized using cyclic voltammetry. The bulk electrolysis of a solution of complex 1 was analyzed by spectroscopic methods confirming the electrochemical synthesis of complex 2

Plasma ACTH, α-MSH and cortisol variations in the dog during the oestrous cycle in different photoperiods

    Get PDF
The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) is a complex system regulated by multiple factors.Sexual dimorphism of this axis has been described in different species under physiological conditions and it hasbeen proposed that sexual hormones could have an effect on it. There are only a few reports about sex-linkedvariations in HPA axis hormones in the dog. Thus, studying the impact of sexual hormones on the HPA axis wouldbroaden the knowledge about its function in this species. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determinewhether there are variations in HPA plasma hormones (ACTH, alfa-melanocyte-stimulating hormone [α-MSH]and cortisol) according to the sex and photoperiod (positive or negative photoperiod were considered when theduration of the light hours of the day was more than 12 or less than 12, respectively) under basal conditions (likeanoestrus) and throughout the oestrous cycle in the female dog. The population under study consisted of 11 intactfemale and 14 intact male dogs. Under basal conditions neither ACTH nor α-MSH concentrations showed differencesbetween sexes and different photoperiods. Cortisol showed greater values in the negative photoperiod thanin the positive, both in females and males (P = 0.03 and P = 0.015, respectively). Throughout the oestrous cycle, all the studied hormones showed variations (P < 0.0001). The greatest concentrations of ACTH were observed atproestrus, while α-MSH and cortisol showed their greatest concentrations at oestrus. The three hormones decreasedin diestrus. ACTH and cortisol concentrations were higher in the negative photoperiod (P = 0.04 and P < 0.0001,respectively), while α-MSH concentrations were higher in the positive photoperiod (P = 0.012). In the group offemales oestradiol and progesterone correlated with ACTH (r = 0.75, P < 0.0001; r = 0.34, P < 0.01, respectively),α-MSH (r = 0.49, P < 0.0001; r = 0.52, P < 0.0001, respectively) and cortisol (r = 0.33, P < 0.01; r = 0.5, P < 0.0001,respectively). These results show that in females, HPA axis hormones vary during the oestrous cycle in relation tooestradiol and progesterone fluctuations. The ACTH, α-MSH and cortisol concentrations also showed differencesbetween photoperiods in females, but only cortisol did so in males. These findings suggest that sexual hormonescould have an effect on the HPA axis. Further research needs to be done to fully understand this interaction andthe mechanisms involved.Fil: Gallelli, María Florencia. Universidad de Buenos Aires. Maps preserving two-sided zero products on Banach algebras

Let A and B be Banach algebras with bounded approximate identities and let F: A→B be a surjective continuous linear map which preserves twosided zero products (i.e., F(a)F(b) = F(b)F(a) = 0 whenever ab = ba = 0). We show that F is a weighted Jordan homomorphism provided that A is zero product determined and weakly amenable. These conditions are in particular fulfilled when A is the group algebra L1(G) with G any locally compact group. We also study a more general type of continuous linear maps F : A → B that satisfy F(a)F(b)+F(b)F(a) = 0 whenever ab = ba = 0. We show in particular that if F is surjective and A is a C∗-algebra, then F is a weighted Jordan homomorphism.Slovenian Research Agency - Slovenia P1-0288MCIU/AEI/FEDER Grant PGC2018-093794-B-I00Junta de Andalucia FQM-185 P20_00255 MIU FPU18/00419 EST19/00466Proyectos I+D+i del programa operativo FEDER-Andalucia Grant A-FQM-484-UGR1

The treatment of 'muta cum liquida' in 'De rerum natura', 'Aeneid' and 'Metamorphoses'

    Get PDF
Despite a few, highly debatable exceptions, according to the data in Latin archaic verse the treatment of muta cum liquida clusters is undoubtedly tautosyllabic. However, in the case of classical poetry the situation has been inexactly or even contradictorily described. This article offers the measure of tautosyllabic and heterosyllabic treatment in De Rerum Natura, Aeneid and Ovid’s Metamorphoses as examples of classical Latin hexameter and analyses the data metrically and linguistically.Este trabajo se ha realizado en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación FFI2012-36647, financiado por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad

Data Availability Statement: The data presented in this study are available on request from the corresponding author. Data was obtained from own survey and are available with the permission of all authors.A sustainable city must be a safe place for its inhabitants when walking, with the absence of fear of crime being one of its main attributes. Although perceived insecurity is one of the main deterrents of walking activity, this relationship requires some clarification in environments which are walkable and safe, with low crime rates. This article contributes to the evidence for the influence of perceived security on walking activity and, as a novel aspect, also analyzes the effects of perceived security on walking as the preferred travel mode. In order to study this relationship, we use a method that combines non-linear principal component analysis (NLPCA) and a logit model (LM). The data are taken from a survey of university students carried out in the city of Granada. Results show that gender and perceived security have a greater effect on the choice of walking as the preferred travel mode, while location factors have significantly more weight in the explanation of the choice of walking as the most usual travel mode. These findings may be extended to other urban areas and can be of use for the implementation of urban policies aimed at designing the built environment to develop more sustainable citiesR+D+i ERDF B-SEJ-238-UGR2
