    Technical assessment of GeoSUR and comparison with INSPIRE experience in the context of an environmental vulnerability analysis

    The use of spatial information has become an important resource for decision support making at national and regional levels. In this respect, several private and public organizations are continuously collecting and producing geospatial data. However, there are still problems that affect the usage of spatial information. As a response to these problems, several spatial data sharing initiatives have been implemented at national, regional and global level. This is also the case of the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) and the Integrated Geospatial Information Network for South America (GeoSUR), both created in 2007. GeoSUR works together with the PAIGH, the Geocentric Reference System for the Americas (SIRGAS) and the Permanent Committee on Geospatial Data Infrastructure for the Americas (PC-IDEA) to consolidate the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Americas. In this context, the role of GeoSUR is to provide the distribution platform for the SDI and develop geoservices and applications based on institutional spatial databases. This research performs a technical assessment of GeoSUR to identify the extent to which the spatial resources provided by the network area accessible, applicable and usable for decision making processes at regional (multinational) level. In order to do so, this study is conducted in the context of a real case study that implements Spatial Multicriteria Evaluation to assess the environmental vulnerability of the Amazon IIRSA region. Results show strengths at finding spatial resources, and regarding the accessibility to regional datasets in GeoSUR. However several obstacles still limit accessibility, applicability and usability of spatial data to perform regional analysis. In this respect, elements considered by INSPIRE such as common implementing rules and technical guidelines are identified as useful to tackle these obstacles and make the spatial services and datasets of the participant institutions compatible to perform regional analysis.The use of spatial information has become an important resource for decision making. This study aims to identify to which extent the technical characteristics of the spatial resources available in GeoSUR website allow to support decisions at multinational level in Latin America. In order to do so, an evaluation of how sensitive is the natural environment to degradation is conducted as a case study to select the resources to be assessed. Results show that is relatively easy to discover spatial resources in GeoSUR, but is difficult to download them. Considering INSPIRE as a model in spatial data sharing, it is concluded that some elements from INSPIRE can be gathered and adapted by GeoSUR to improve the characteristics of the spatial data offered

    Indirect fluorometric determination of diclofenac sodium

    A simple and easy method of analysis for diclofenac sodium is reported. A spectrofluorometric method for the microdetermination of diclofenac sodium has been developed through its reaction with cerium(IV) in an acidic solution and measurement of the fluorescence of the Ce(III) ions produced. Under the optimum experimental conditions for the oxidation reaction, 1.0 M H 2 SO 4 with 90 min of heating time (100°C), the range of application is 124.3 - 600 ng mL -1 and the limit of detection is 72.7 ng mL -1 . The proposed method was applied to the determination of diclofenac sodium in pharmaceutical tablets. The results of the analysis show a good agreement with those obtained by the official USP 27 HPLC method.Facultad de Ciencias Exacta

    A Learning Health-Care System for Improving Renal Health Services in Peru Using Data Analytics

    The health sector around the world faces the continuous challenge of improving the services provided to patients. Therefore, digital transformation in health services plays a key role in integrating new technologies such as artificial intelligence. However, the health system in Peru has not yet taken the big step towards digitising its services, currently ranking 71st according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). This article proposes a learning health system for the management and monitoring of private health services in Peru based on the three key components of intelligent health care: (1) a health data platform (HDP); (2) intelligent technologies (IT); and (3) an intelligent health care suite (HIS). The solution consists of four layers: (1) data source, (2) data warehousing, (3) data analytics, and (4) visualization. In layer 1, all data sources are selected to create a database. The proposed learning health system is built, and the data storage is executed through the extract, transform and load (ETL) process in layer 2. In layer 3, the Kaggle dataset and the decision tree (DT) and random forest (RF) algorithms are used to predict the diagnosis of disease, resulting in the RF algorithm having the best performance. Finally, in layer 4, the intelligent health-care suite dashboards and interfaces are designed. The proposed system was applied in a clinic focused on preventing chronic kidney disease. A total of 100 patients and six kidney health experts participated. The results proved that the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease by the learning health system had a low error rate in positive diagnoses (err = 1.12%). Additionally, it was demonstrated that experts were “satisfied” with the dashboards and interfaces of the intelligent health-care suite as well as the quality of the learning health system.Revisión por pare

Dicho proceso requiere del aprendizaje y puesta en marcha de procedimientos cognitivos formales y categoriales constituidos a lo largo de la formación académica, y da cuenta del talento para retar problemas, asumir posiciones y elaborar acciones de participación e interacción en los campos susceptibles de intervención de la profesión.     The present text, derived from a research process, seeks to allow aims to leave elements to the debate over the construction of the deliberative democracy managing to establish, which the theoretical framework could be, in which the Colombian case can be adjusted. For such a purpose, the text will introduce, first, the debate over the deliberative democracy as legitimacy of decision-making procedures, establishing what the role played by the Constitutional Court, in the construction of this type of democracy, is. Second, to deepen, with special emphasis, on the decisions of the Constitutional Court, whether they allow it or not, an open space for the deliberative democracy, and third, it introduces a contribution to the academic debate over the current situation in Colombia in the construction of a deliberative democracy.El presente texto, derivado de proceso de investigación, busca dejar elementos para el debate en torno a la construcción de la democracia deliberativa procurando establecer cuál podría ser el marco teórico en el que se puede ajustar el caso Colombiano.     Se estudiaron los principios de la termografía y propiedades térmicas que posee cada material para configurar correctamente la cámara térmica Fluke TI32 e identificar problemas en la subestación eléctrica del edificio 1, bloque B-BB, piso 0-P0. Basados en la teoría de la termografía se realizó un diagnóstico en la subestación eléctrica y un análisis de cada imagen capturada. Para el análisis de las imágenes se utilizó el paquete computacional SmartView, el cual lo incluye la cámara térmica Fluke TI32, cada una de éstas imágenes tiene una serie de información que facilitó hacer un análisis cualitativo de la subestación eléctrica.Principles of thermography and thermal properties possessed by each material to properly configure the TI32 Fluke thermal camera and identify problems in electrical substation building 1, Block B-BB, 0-P0 floor. Esta investigaci?n arrojar? luces respecto a la influencia de las jornadas complementarias en los estudiantes y por ser la primera en su tipo en el Departamento del Tolima, permitir? que se abra una nueva l?nea de investigaci?n al respecto de este tema tan interesante.This final report is derived from the Evaluative Investigation of the Complementary School Day Program implemented by the Tolima Comfenalco Family Compensation Fund, whose main purpose was to identify the educational trajectory of the beneficiary students of the Complementary School Day Program in the municipality of Mariquita Tolima, educational institution Moreno and Escand?n. The educational trajectory refers to the changes perceived in relation to: identity, participation, coexistence, respect, compliance with norms and trust. It was also sought to identify perceived changes in academic performance which are attributed to participation in the program. The Educational Institution Moreno and Escand?n was selected, because it perceives the needs of this accompaniment and the implementation of the Complementary Days in order to improve the academic, disciplinary and coexistence aspects discussed above. The importance of this research is that it shows a successful experience between the education sector and the Family Compensation Funds that provide important accompaniment in the education of the students, as instruments for gathering information was used the meetings of parents of Family who commented on the positive aspects that were evidenced in their children in the development of the complementary days, through a participatory process that involved the beneficiaries of the Program, such as students, parents and educational community. This research will shed light on the influence of the complementary days on students and being the first of its kind in the Department of Tolima, will allow a new line of research to be opened regarding this interesting topic.     Improving academic writing in an ELT program through writers' workshops

    El presente estudio fue realizado como respuesta a las necesidades reflejadas por un grupo de estudiantes universitarios de un programa de licenciatura en enseñanza de la lengua inglesa, para perfeccionar su escritura académica. Para poder lograr este propósito, se implementó una serie de talleres de escritura en la clase de composición de sexto semestre. Los talleres de escritura fueron enfocados en concienciar a los estudiantes acerca del proceso de escritura académica, incluyendo estrategias como: generar ideas, compartir, redactar un borrador, revisar y editar. De hecho, nosotras como estudiantes de la licenciatura en inglés percibimos las dificultades que los estudiantes del programa enfrentan durante el proceso de la escritura de textos académicos. Por esto decidimos llevar a cabo este proyecto, con la intención de responder las siguientes preguntas: ¿cuáles son las concepciones de los estudiantes de licenciatura en enseñanza de la lengua inglesa sobre la escritura académica antes y después de nuestra instrucción? ¿Cuáles son las respuestas de los estudiantes de licenciatura en enseñanza de la lengua inglesa hacia nuestra instrucción a través de los talleres de escritura?. Para responder a las preguntas mencionadas previamente y recolectar los datos de nuestro estudio, llevamos a cabo dos entrevistas a cada uno de los participantes antes y después de nuestra instrucción. Además, observamos cada uno de los talleres de escritura y diseñamos tareas de escritura para determinar el progreso de los estudiantes en relación con la escritura académica. Por otra parte, los resultados de este estudio revelaron que los talleres de escritura generaron un impacto positivo en los estudiantes, en cuanto al proceso de escritura y las estrategias que hacen parte de él. Además descubrimos que, el feedback oral y escrito brindado por el profesor durante los talleres de escritura, contribuyó a desarrollar la habilidad de los estudiantes para producir escritos con una calidad más académica. También encontramos que, el profesor influyó positivamente en la motivación de los estudiantes, ya que a través de su monitoreo constante y feedback, los participantes fueron capaces de producir mejores textos académicos. En consecuencia, este estudio indica que, los talleres de escritura son un enfoque que, no solo proporciona a los estudiantes conciencia respecto al desarrollo de su propio proceso de escritura, sino que también, brinda a los estudiantes la posibilidad de mejorar la escritura académica, con la guía y el feedback del educador.The current study was developed in response to the needs revealed by a group of undergraduate students from an English Language Teaching (ELT) program to refine their academic writing skills. In order to achieve this purpose, we implemented the writers’ workshops in the composition class of sixth semester at this program. The writers’ workshops provided to students awareness concerning the writing process which incorporate writing strategies such as brainstorming, sharing, drafting, revising, and editing. In fact, we as previous students of the ELT program noticed the difficulties the students face in the program when writing academic texts. That is why we decided to conduct this project in an attempt to answer these questions: What are the ELT students’ conceptions towards academic writing prior and after instruction? What are the responses of undergraduate ELT students to our writing instruction through the writers’ workshops? In order to answer the research questions mentioned above and collect data, we conducted two interviews to each one of the participant students: one previous and one after our instruction. Moreover, we observed each one of the writers’ workshops, and we designed writing tasks to measure the students’ academic writing improvement. On the other hand, the findings in this study revealed that the writers’ workshops generated a positive impact on the students’ writing process and what it involves. In addition, we found that the written and oral feedback given by the instructor during the writers’ workshops contributed to increasing the students’ ability to produce writing with a more academic quality. Moreover, we noticed that the teacher influenced students’ motivation to write positively since through teachers’ monitoring and feedback, the students were capable of producing better academic written texts. Thus, this study suggests that the writer’s workshop is an essential instructional approach which not only provides students awareness concerning the development of their own writing process, but also the possibility to improve academic writing supported by the instructors’ guidance and feedback
