A Framework to Manage the Complex Organisation of Collaborating: Its Application to Autonomous Systems
In this paper we present an analysis of the complexities of large group
collaboration and its application to develop detailed requirements for
collaboration schema for Autonomous Systems (AS). These requirements flow from
our development of a framework for collaboration that provides a basis for
designing, supporting and managing complex collaborative systems that can be
applied and tested in various real world settings. We present the concepts of
"collaborative flow" and "working as one" as descriptive expressions of what
good collaborative teamwork can be in such scenarios. The paper considers the
application of the framework within different scenarios and discuses the
utility of the framework in modelling and supporting collaboration in complex
organisational structures
Factors associated with alcohol reduction in harmful and hazardous drinkers following alcohol brief intervention in Scotland: a qualitative enquiry
Background: Alcohol Brief Intervention (ABI) uses a motivational counselling approach to support individuals to
reduce excessive alcohol consumption. There is growing evidence on ABIâs use within various health care settings,
although how they work and which components enhance success is largely unknown. This paper reports on the
qualitative part of a mixed methods study. It explores enablers and barriers associated with alcohol reduction
following an ABI. It focuses on alcoholâs place within participantsâ lives and their personal perspectives on reducing
consumption. There are a number of randomised controlled trials in this field though few ABI studies have
addressed the experiences of hazardous/harmful drinkers. This study examines factors associated with alcohol
reduction in harmful/hazardous drinkers following ABI.
Methods: This qualitative study was underpinned by a realist evaluation approach and involved semistructured
interviews with ten harmful or hazardous alcohol drinkers. Participants (n = 10) were from the
intervention arm of a randomised controlled trial (n = 124). All had received ABI, a 20 min motivational
counselling interview, six months previously, and had reduced their alcohol consumption. Interviews were
recorded, transcribed verbatim and thematically analysed.
Results: Participants described their views on alcohol, itsâ place in their lives, their personal perspectives on
reducing their consumption and future aspirations.
Conclusions: The findings provide an insight into participantsâ views on alcohol, ABI, and the barriers and enablers
to change. Participants described a cost benefit analysis, with some conscious consideration of the advantages and
disadvantages of reducing intake or abstaining from alcohol. Findings suggest that, whilst hospital admission can act
as a catalyst, encouraging individuals to reflect on their alcohol consumption through ABI may consolidate this, turning
this reflective moment into action. Sustainability may be enhanced by the presence of a âsignificant otherâ who
encourages and experiences benefit. In addition having a purpose or structure with activities linked to employment
and/or social and leisure pursuits offers the potential to enhance and sustain reduced alcohol consumption.

Breadwinners and Homemakers: Migration and Changing Conjugal Expectations in Rural Bangladesh
The literature on marriage norms and aspirations across societies largely sees the institution as static â a tool for the assertion of masculinities and subordination of women. The changing meanings of marriage and conjugality in the contemporary context of globalisation have received scant attention. Based on research in rural Bangladesh, this article questions the usefulness of notions of autonomy and dependence in understanding conjugal relations and expectations in a context of widespread migration for extended periods, especially to overseas destinations, where mutuality is crucial for social reproduction, though in clearly genderdemarcated domains
Perioperative interventions to improve early mobilisation and physical function after hip fracture: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND: Perioperative interventions could enhance early mobilisation and physical function after hip fracture surgery. OBJECTIVE: Determine the effectiveness of perioperative interventions on early mobilisation and physical function after hip fracture. METHODS: Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, Scopus and Web of Science were searched from January 2000 to March 2022. English language experimental and quasi-experimental studies were included if patients were hospitalised for a fractured proximal femur with a mean age 65Â years or older and reported measures of early mobilisation and physical function during the acute hospital admission. Data were pooled using a random effect meta-analysis. RESULTS: Twenty-eight studies were included from 1,327 citations. Studies were conducted in 26 countries on 8,192 participants with a mean age of 80Â years. Pathways and models of care may provide a small increase in early mobilisation (standardised mean difference [SMD]: 0.20, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.01-0.39, I2Â =â73%) and physical function (SMD: 0.07, 95% CI 0.00 to 0.15, I2Â =â0%) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation analgesia may provide a moderate improvement in function (SMD: 0.65, 95% CI: 0.24-1.05, I2Â =â96%). The benefit of pre-operative mobilisation, multidisciplinary rehabilitation, recumbent cycling and clinical supervision on mobilisation and function remains uncertain. Evidence of no effect on mobilisation or function was identified for pre-emptive analgesia, intraoperative periarticular injections, continuous postoperative epidural infusion analgesia, occupational therapy training or nutritional supplements. CONCLUSIONS: Perioperative interventions may improve early mobilisation and physical function after hip fracture surgery. Future studies are needed to model the causal mechanisms of perioperative interventions on mobilisation and function after hip fracture
Never the twain shall meet: a critical appraisal of the combination of discourse and psychoanalytic theory in studies of men and masculinity
In recent years there has been a number of attempts by different researchers to study men and masculinity using a combination of discourse theory and psychoanalysis. The main reason for this development is the sense that, on its own, discourse theory provides an incomplete account of masculine subjectivity. Psychoanalysis is thought to be able to fill those gaps. In this paper I want to begin by reviewing these arguments. I will provide an outline of the alleged deficiencies in discursive approaches to men and masculinity before going on to examine some of the work that has attempted the above synthesis. What I aim to show is that, for a number of reasons, such attempts are bound to fail. Instead, I will argue that better progress can be made in studies of masculinity by remaining within the theoretical boundaries of Discursive Psychology
PSR J1856+0245: Arecibo Discovery of a Young, Energetic Pulsar Coincident with the TeV Gamma-ray Source HESS J1857+026
We present the discovery of the Vela-like radio pulsar J1856+0245 in the
Arecibo PALFA survey. PSR J1856+0245 has a spin period of 81ms, a
characteristic age of 21kyr, and a spin-down luminosity Edot = 4.6 x 10^36
ergs/s. It is positionally coincident with the TeV gamma-ray source HESS
J1857+026, which has no other known counterparts. Young, energetic pulsars
create wind nebulae, and more than a dozen pulsar wind nebulae have been
associated with very-high-energy (100GeV-100TeV) gamma-ray sources discovered
with the HESS telescope. The gamma-ray emission seen from HESS J1857+026 is
potentially produced by a pulsar wind nebula powered by PSR J1856+0245; faint
X-ray emission detected by ASCA at the pulsar's position supports this
hypothesis. The inferred gamma-ray efficiency is epsilon_gamma = L_gamma/Edot =
3.1% (1-10TeV, for a distance of 9kpc), comparable to that observed in similar

The influence of the dechanneling process on the photon emission by an ultra-relativistc positron channeling in a periodically bent crystal
We investigate, both analytically and numerically, the influence of the
dechanneling process on the parameters of undulator radiation generated by
ultra-relativistic positron channelling along a crystal plane, which is
periodically bent. The bending might be due either to the propagation of a
transverse acoustic wave through the crystal, or due to the static strain as it
occurs in superlattices. In either case the periodically bent crystal serves as
an undulator which allows to generate X-ray and gamma-radiation.
We propose the scheme for accurate quantitative treatment of the radiation in
presence of the dechanneling. The scheme includes (i) the analytic expression
for spectral-angular distribution which contains, as a parameter, the
dechanneling length, (ii) the simulation procedure of the dechanneling process
of a positron in periodically bent crystals. Using these we calculate the
dechanneling lengths of 5 GeV positrons channeling in Si, Ge and W crystals,
and the spectral-angular and spectral distributions of the undulator over broad
ranges of the photons. The calculations are performed for various parameters of

Discovery of Pulsed -rays from PSR J0034-0534 with the Fermi LAT: A Case for Co-located Radio and -ray Emission Regions
Millisecond pulsars (MSPs) have been firmly established as a class of
gamma-ray emitters via the detection of pulsations above 0.1 GeV from eight
MSPs by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). Using thirteen months of LAT data
significant gamma-ray pulsations at the radio period have been detected from
the MSP PSR J0034-0534, making it the ninth clear MSP detection by the LAT. The
gamma-ray light curve shows two peaks separated by 0.2740.015 in phase
which are very nearly aligned with the radio peaks, a phenomenon seen only in
the Crab pulsar until now. The 0.1 GeV spectrum of this pulsar is well
fit by an exponentially cutoff power law with a cutoff energy of 1.80.1 GeV and a photon index of 1.50.1, first errors are
statistical and second are systematic. The near-alignment of the radio and
gamma-ray peaks strongly suggests that the radio and gamma-ray emission regions

Fermi Large Area Telescope observations of the Vela-X Pulsar Wind Nebula
We report on gamma-ray observations in the off-pulse window of the Vela
pulsar PSR B0833-45, using 11 months of survey data from the Fermi Large Area
Telescope (LAT). This pulsar is located in the 8 degree diameter Vela supernova
remnant, which contains several regions of non-thermal emission detected in the
radio, X-ray and gamma-ray bands. The gamma-ray emission detected by the LAT
lies within one of these regions, the 2*3 degrees area south of the pulsar
known as Vela-X. The LAT flux is signicantly spatially extended with a best-fit
radius of 0.88 +/- 0.12 degrees for an assumed radially symmetric uniform disk.
The 200 MeV to 20 GeV LAT spectrum of this source is well described by a
power-law with a spectral index of 2.41 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.15 and integral flux
above 100 MeV of (4.73 +/- 0.63 +/- 1.32) * 10^{-7} cm^{-2} s^{-1}. The first
errors represent the statistical error on the fit parameters, while the second
ones are the systematic uncertainties. Detailed morphological and spectral
analyses give strong constraints on the energetics and magnetic field of the
pulsar wind nebula (PWN) system and favor a scenario with two distinct electron

Fermi LAT Search for Photon Lines from 30 to 200 GeV and Dark Matter Implications
Dark matter (DM) particle annihilation or decay can produce monochromatic
-rays readily distinguishable from astrophysical sources. -ray
line limits from 30 GeV to 200 GeV obtained from 11 months of Fermi Large Area
Space Telescope data from 20-300 GeV are presented using a selection based on
requirements for a -ray line analysis, and integrated over most of the
sky. We obtain -ray line flux upper limits in the range , and give corresponding DM annihilation
cross-section and decay lifetime limits. Theoretical implications are briefly
