    O presente trabalho busca evidenciar a concepção moral do Direito na doutrina do Direito de Kant, distinguindo as ideias que conceituam a diferença entre leis jurídicas e leis éticas, a partir das leis morais para tratar da concepção e o reconhecimento dos direitos de equidade e o de necessidade, por um lado, e a não realização desses direitos, por outro.     Structural and hydrogeological features of a Lias carbonate aquifer in the Triffa Plain, NE Morocco

    The rising demand for water and the contamination of shallow water table aquifers has led authorities in NE Morocco to look for deeper groundwater resources in the Triffa Plain, namely in Lower Jurassic (Lias) dolomitic limestones. The liassic aquifer is of strategic importance for the development of the region, however, its hydrodynamic behaviour is poorly understood due to lack of hydrogeological data and block structure. This article presents a first effort towards understanding the structure and hydraulic behaviour of the aquifer. Exploration borehole data and results from geophysical campaigns were integrated into a GIS environment to build a preliminary model of the aquifer structure. The aquifer behaves as an unconfined aquifer in the northern part of the Béni Snassen Mountains (the recharge area), but as it dips to the north, it becomes confined by marls and shales of the Middle/Upper Jurassic. Even though piezometric level data are scarce, a tentative piezometric map was produced. Three blocks separated by NW–SE trending faults in a horst and graben structure, with distinct flow behaviours were identified: Berkane, Fezouane and Sidi Rahmoun blocks. Those blocks also show differences in hydraulic conductivity distribution. As a result of the reaction with the dolomitic limestones, the groundwater is of calcium-magnesium bicarbonate type. Groundwater temperature as measured in springs ranges from 29 C to 37 C in springs and constitutes a potential low enthalpy geothermal resource

    Oxidation-labile linkers for controlled drug delivery

    The continuous symbiosis throughout chemical biology and drug discovery has led to the design of innovative bifunctional molecules for targeted and controlled drug delivery. Among the different tools, protein-drug and peptide-drug conjugates are trend approaches to achieve targeted delivery, selectivity and efficacy. To meet the main goals of these bioconjugates, the selection of the appropriate payloads and linkers is crucial, as they must provide in vivo stability, while they may also help to achieve the therapeutic target and action. In neurodegenerative diseases or some cancer types, where oxidative stress plays an important role, linkers sensitive to oxidative conditions may be able to release the drug once the conjugate achieves the target.     Notas sobre do maciço de Sines: uma reinterpretação de dados geofísicos para avaliação do potencial armazenamento de CO2 por carbonatação mineral

    ABSTRACT: The InCarbon project aims to evaluate the potential for storage of captured CO2 using in-situ mineral carbonation in mafic and ultramafic plutonic rocks in Alentejo, Portugal. The Sines massif appears to be the most promising massif for mineral carbonation and its geochemistry, petrography, mineralogy, volume and extension are characterized. Its offshore volume and extension are evaluated through reinterpretation of previous geophysical data which confirms the occurrence of two well defined magnetic anomalies. The Sines magnetic anomaly is directly related with the outcropping area of the Sines massif to the continental shelf; three-dimensional modelling (3D) of apparent magnetic susceptibility correlates with a volume of 217 km3.The offshore magnetic anomaly presents an estimated volume of 226 km3 and is located about 10 km from the Sines anomaly to the Southwest. If both anomalies result from a single igneous body, the area of the Sines massif could as be large as 300 km2. However, the possibility of these that those two anomalies correspond distinct mafic igneous structures in the continental shelf cannot be discarded and should be further investigated.RESUMO: O projeto InCarbon pretende avaliar o potencial para a carbonatação mineral in-situ das rochas plutónicas máficas e ultramáficas no Alentejo para o armazenamento de CO2. O maciço de Sines parece ser o maciço mais promissor para carbonatação mineral no Alentejo e é caracterizado do ponto de vista geoquímico, petrográfico, mineralógico, bem assim como do ponto de vista do seu volume e extensão. A avaliação do volume e da extensão na área offshore foi efetuada reinterpretando dados geofísicos existentes os quais confirmam a ocorrência de duas anomalias magnéticas bem definidas. A anomalia magnética de Sines (sobre o continente) está diretamente relacionada com prolongamento do maciço de Sines para a plataforma continental. Com base em modelação tridimensional (3D) da suscetibilidade magnética aparente foi obtido um volume de 217 km3. A anomalia magnética offshore, localizada na plataforma continental, apresenta um volume estimado de 226 km3 e está localizada a cerca de 10 km a sudoeste da anomalia de Sines. Se ambas as anomalias estiverem relacionadas com um mesmo corpo ígneo, então a extensão do maciço de Sines poderá atingir uma área de 300 km2. No entanto, a possibilidade dessas duas anomalias corresponderem a estruturas máficas distintas não pode ser descartada e deve ser investigada.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Coumarins are naturally occurring molecules with a versatile range of activities. Their structural and physicochemical characteristics make them a privileged scaffold in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. Many research articles and reviews compile information on this important family of compounds. In this overview, the most recent research papers and reviews from 2020 are organized and analyzed, and a discussion on these data is included. Multiple electronic databases were scanned, including SciFinder, Mendeley, and PubMed, the latter being the main source of information. Particular attention was paid to the potential of coumarins as an important scaffold in drug design, as well as fluorescent probes for decaging of prodrugs, metal detection, and diagnostic purposes. In this way, the authors present a case of young female with arteriovenous malformation on the left shoulder. The indication and the treatment options were discussed within national and international experts at the Conference of Vascular Anomalies in Lisbon in 2018. The aim of this study was to quantify the economic impact of atherosclerosis in Portugal by estimating disease-related costs. Methods: Costs were estimated based on a prevalence approach and following a societal perspective. Three national epidemiological sources were used to estimate the prevalence of the main clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. The annual costs of atherosclerosis included both direct costs (resource consumption) and indirect costs (impact on population productivity). These costs were estimated for 2016, based on data from the Hospital Morbidity Database, the health care database (SIARS) of the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Tagus Valley including real-world data from primary care, the 2014 National Health Interview Survey, and expert opinion. Results: The total cost of atherosclerosis in 2016 reached 1.9 billion euros (58% and 42% of which was direct and indirect costs, respectively). Most of the direct costs were associated with primary care (55%), followed by hospital outpatient care (27%) and hospitalizations (18%). Indirect costs were mainly driven by early exit from the labor force (91%).     Balance between the two kinin receptors in the progression of experimental focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis in mice

    Focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is one of the most important renal diseases related to end-stage renal failure. Bradykinin has been implicated in the pathogenesis of renal inflammation, whereas the role of its receptor 2 (B2RBK; also known as BDKRB2) in FSGS has not been studied. FSGS was induced in wild-type and B2RBK-knockout mice by a single intravenous injection of Adriamycin (ADM). in order to further modulate the kinin receptors, the animals were also treated with the B2RBK antagonist HOE-140 and the B1RBK antagonist DALBK. Here, we show that the blockage of B2RBK with HOE-140 protects mice from the development of FSGS, including podocyte foot process effacement and the re-establishment of slit-diaphragm-related proteins. However, B2RBK-knockout mice were not protected from FSGS. These opposite results were due to B1RBK expression. B1RBK was upregulated after the injection of ADM and this upregulation was exacerbated in B2RBK-knockout animals. Furthermore, treatment with HOE-140 downregulated the B1RBK receptor. the blockage of B1RBK in B2RBK-knockout animals promoted FSGS regression, with a less-inflammatory phenotype.
