Assessment-oriented Java development vs. Clickers' use in formal assessment of basic principles of dental radiology: The opinion of dentistry students
[EN]The integration of Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs) has generated a change in teaching methodologies au
university level. The objective of this study is to check the
effectiveness of interactive processes in summative assessment or
learning-oriented assessment contexts using electronic self assessment processes (Java application) versus the use of audience
response systems (ARS) or “clickers” in the classroom, from the
point of view of students’ satisfaction measurement.
The sample for this study is composed by the students of the first
year of the Degree on Dentistry of the School of Medicine of the
University of Salamanca, and which was carried out by means of
a questionnaire, where 1 stood for total disagreement and 7 for
absolute agreement; together with an statistical analysis (Conbach
alpha) that allows us to value the reliability of the answers
obtained.
Results reflect the students’ answers to the questionnaire, as well
as the relationship between the two systems. To conclude, there
are certain coincidences when judging both assessment tools, but
we also observe that there is a better predisposition towards Java
system rather than to clickers. The job done by a coordinated
interdisciplinary team formed by members of different areas has
made it possible to build and validate interesting pedagogical
materials, as well as to develop formative assessment strategies
that could be generalized to other subjects in different degrees
"Eficiencia en el Mercado Accionario: Nueva Evidencia para el Caso Mexicano "
This article uses bootstrap techniques to determine whether the exchange market in Mexico, during the period 1997-2011, is efficient or not. To the best of our knowledge, although this methodology is not new, it has not yet been applied to the case of Mexico. Based on the daily changes of observed exchange rates random sequences of prices are generated to obtain the empirical distribution of returns under two well known trading rules: filter and moving average. Further, we determine if, for each trading rule, the returns obtained with the series of prices actually observed belong to the corresponding empirical distribution, in which case the foreign exchange market will be consistent with the efficiency hypothesis. Our results suggest that there is no evidence to reject the efficiency hypothesis in the foreign exchange Mexican market for the period considered in this study.

Assessing two Theoretical Frameworks of Civic Engagement
The purpose of this study was to empirically test two major theoretical models: a modified version of the social capital model (Pattie, Seyd and Whiteley, 2003), and the Informed Social Engagement Model (Barr and Selman, 2014; Selman and Kwok, 2010), to explain civic participation and civic knowledge of adolescents from Chile, Colombia and Mexico, using data from the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2009 (Schulz, et al., 2010). The models were used to identify factors associated with different levels of knowledge and civic participation: expected participation in legal and illegal protests, and electoral participation.
Data were analyzed using regression analysis. Results show that the Informed Social Engagement approach (ISEM), explains better the observed differences in civic knowledge and civic participation, than the Social Capital Model (SCM). That is, the expected values associated with the variables included in the ISEM are closer to the observed values, than those predicted by the SCM. This is true for the three outcomes (expected participation in legal protests, illegal protests, and electoral participation) and in the three countries analyzed (Chile, Colombia and Mexico)
Miradas exploratorias. Fotografías inéditas del viaje a Italia de Asís Cabrero
[EN] As was the case in not just a few of his contemporaries, Francisco Cabrero's modern advent is centred on his initial trip, in this case the one made to Italy in 1941. The historiography of Spanish architecture in general and the specific studies on the architect have shown the impact and the scope of this two-month trip on his later career. Fleeing the ruling academicism in Spain, Cabrero 'discovers' in Italy the rationalist and abstract expression of monumentality. Nevertheless, the access to a wide photographic reportage —unpublished up to now— accomplished by the architect during the trip, allows us to document his journey but also to put in to question those claims. The photographs introduce us for the first time to Cabrero the photographer —to his particular way of constructing an image— and as a result they pave the way for the recognition of this visual tool as an exploratory instrument of the gaze to the detriment of the pencil and notebook. Above all and paradoxically, they contradict the supposed fascination for modern language in Cabrero since discovering that historical architecture was almost the only objective of his selective photographic look and as a result, the primary source, of his transforming inspiration.[ES] Como ocurrió en el caso de no pocos de sus contemporáneos, el advenimiento moderno de
Exploratory gazes. Unpublished photographs of Asís Cabrero's Italian trip. VLC arquitectura. Seasonal variability of oceanographic conditions off NW Galician waters influencing the early life trophic ecology of European hake Merluccius merluccius by stable isotope analysis
Stable isotopes of nitrogen (δ15N) and carbón (δ13C) have been used as tracers for analyzing
the trophic ecology of European hake larvae collected during the winter and summer of 2012 off
NW Galicia. The sampling times correspond to periods of high and low hake spawning activity,
respectively. Trophic enrichment was analyzed using as baseline two different plankton size
fractions, corresponding to micro- (55-200μm) and mesozooplankton (>200μm). During both
seasons, the δ15N signatures of hake larvae showed higher values than the zooplankton
fractions. The first survey carried out in late February was characterized by a preceding marked
upwelling, low geostrophic velocities in the hydrographic circulation and an intense mixing of the
water column. This environmental scenario is hypothesizing that originated a great nutrient
availability for primary consumers showed its effect in the low δ15N values observed in plankton
and hake larvae. During July, the environmental setting corresponded to period where the water
column was stratified, an anticyclonic gyre was formed in the center of the study area that
concentrated particles and weak upwelling conditions and strong geostrophic currents where
found. This scenario was characterized hypothetically by low nutrient availability in which
production is mainly based on regenerated nutrients which would explain the higher δ15N values
found during this period. On the other hand, the greater δ13C values observed in summer in
comparison to winter suggest differences in the energetic sources of carbon (Fig. 1). The
discussion of results is centered in how oceanographic variability conditions signatures of stable
isotope fractionation in the early life trophic food web influencing the variable trophic pathways
of larval hake subject to contrasting environmental conditions, thereby affecting their larval
nutritional condition as estimated by RNA/DNA ratios and the Fulton index. This study was
