    SAP is a major ERP Package that requires no introduction and research into the area is widespread and well reported. However, more and more reports are emerging of the failure of SAP as a package to meet the needs of business. This paper looks at the research of SAP for evidences of systematic research biases to see if that is the cause for such implementation failure being missed. A comprehensive literature search on SAP papers was undertaken with some alarming results showing a disturbing uncritical and possibly biased perspective from SAP Research literature

    The French Directory (1795-1799) has long been ignored within the historiography of the French Revolution, yet it introduced radical new forms of parliamentary government. At both an institutional and procedural level, the Directory abandoned or modified many of the core elements of the Revolution's earlier parliamentary systems, such as the adoption of bicameralism, or the abolition of committees. These innovations left a lasting impression on the political culture of France, and were echoed in its various political systems of the 19th Century

    Redefining the common insertion site

    AbstractRetroviral mutagenesis has been used as a powerful tool to discover genes involved in oncogenesis through a technique called Common Insertion Site (CIS) analysis where tumors are induced by proviral integrations and the genomic loci of the proviruses are identified. A fundamental assumption made in this analysis is that multiple proviral insertions in close proximity occurring more frequently than would be predicted randomly provides evidence that the genes near the integrations are involved in the formation of the tumors. We demonstrate here using data derived from MLV integrations not put under selection for tumor induction that CIS analysis as currently defined is often not a sufficient argument for a gene's significance in tumorigenesis

    Securing By Design

    This article investigates how modern neo-liberal states are 'securing by design' harnessing design to new technologies in order to produce security, safety, and protection. We take a critical view toward 'securing by design' and the policy agendas it produces of 'designing out insecurity' and 'designing in protection' because securing by design strategies rely upon inadequate conceptualisations of security, technology, and design and inadequate understandings of their relationships to produce inadequate 'security solutions' to readymade 'security problems'. This critique leads us to propose a new research agenda we call Redesigning Security. A Redesigning Security Approach begins from a recognition that the achievement of security is more often than not illusive, which means that the desire for security is itself problematic. Rather than encouraging the design of 'security solutions' a securing by design a Redesigning Security Approach explores how we might insecure securing by design. By acknowledging and then moving beyond the new security studies insight that security often produces insecurity, our approach uses design as a vehicle through which to raise questions about security problems and security solutions by collaborating with political and critical design practitioners to design concrete material objects that themselves embody questions about traditional security and about traditional design practices that use technology to depoliticise how technology is deployed by states and corporations to make us 'safe'

    Top-Charm flavor changing contributions to the effective bsZbsZ vertex

    We analyze the effects of a tree level flavor changing tcZtcZ vertex induced by a mixing with new isosinglet Q=2/3Q=2/3 quarks, on the effective bsZbsZ vertex. We compute the contributions arising from the new electroweak penguin diagrams involving one insertion of the tcZtcZ vertex. We show that a generalized GIM mechanism ensures the cancellation of the mass independent terms as well as of the new divergences. Unexpectedly, the presence of a tcZtcZ coupling cannot enhance the rates for the ZZ mediated flavor changing decays \bsll\ and \bsnn, implying that these processes cannot be used to set limits on the tcZtcZ coupling.     Measuring Height Change Around the Periphery of the Greenland Ice Sheet With Radar Altimetry

    This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.Ice loss measurements around the periphery of the Greenland Ice Sheet can provide key information on the response to climate change. Here we use the excellent spatial and temporal coverage provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) CryoSat satellite, together with NASA airborne Operation IceBridge and automatic weather station data, to study the influence of changing conditions on the bias between the height estimated by the satellite radar altimeter and the ice sheet surface. Surface and near-surface conditions on the ice sheet periphery change with season and geographic position in a way that affects the returned altimeter waveform and can therefore affect the estimate of the surface height derived from the waveform. Notwithstanding the possibility of a varying bias between the derived and real surface, for the lower accumulation regions in the western and northern ice sheet periphery (<∼1 m snow accumulation yearly) we show that the CryoSat altimeter can measure height change throughout the year, including that associated with ice dynamics, summer melt and winter accumulation. Further, over the 9-year CryoSat lifetime it is also possible to relate height change to change in speed of large outlet glaciers, for example, there is significant height loss upstream of two branches of the Upernavik glacier in NW Greenland that increased in speed during this time, but much less height loss over a third branch that slowed in the same time period. In contrast to the west and north, winter snow accumulation in the south-east periphery can be 2–3 m and the average altimeter height for this area can decrease by up to 2 m during the fall and winter when the change in the surface elevation is much smaller. We show that vertical downward movement of the dense layer from the last summer melt, coupled with overlying dry snow, is responsible for the anomalous altimeter height change. However, it is still possible to estimate year-to-year height change measurements in this area by using data from the late-summer to early fall when surface returns dominate the altimeter signal

    Glacier velocities and dynamic ice discharge from the Queen Elizabeth Islands, Nunavut, Canada

    Recent studies indicate an increase in glacier mass loss from the Canadian Arctic Archipelago as a result of warmer summer air temperatures. However, no complete assessment of dynamic ice discharge from this region exists. We present the first complete surface velocity mapping of all ice masses in the Queen Elizabeth Islands and show that these ice masses discharged ~2.6 ± 0.8 Gt a−1 of ice to the oceans in winter 2012. Approximately 50% of the dynamic discharge was channeled through non surge-type Trinity and Wykeham Glaciers alone. Dynamic discharge of the surge-type Mittie Glacier varied from 0.90 ± 0.09 Gt a−1 during its 2003 surge to 0.02 ± 0.02 Gt a−1 during quiescence in 2012, highlighting the importance of surge-type glaciers for interannual variability in regional mass loss.     Whole-genome epidemiology links phage-mediated acquisition of a virulence gene to the clonal expansion of a pandemic Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium clone

    Epidemic and pandemic clones of bacterial pathogens with distinct characteristics continually emerge, replacing those previously dominant through mechanisms that remain poorly characterized. Here, whole-genome-sequencing-powered epidemiology linked horizontal transfer of a virulence gene, sopE, to the emergence and clonal expansion of a new epidemic Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) clone. The sopE gene is sporadically distributed within the genus Salmonella and rare in S. enterica Typhimurium lineages, but was acquired multiple times during clonal expansion of the currently dominant pandemic monophasic S. Typhimurium sequence type (ST) 34 clone. Ancestral state reconstruction and time-scaled phylogenetic analysis indicated that sopE was not present in the common ancestor of the epidemic clade, but later acquisition resulted in increased clonal expansion of sopE-containing clones that was temporally associated with emergence of the epidemic, consistent with increased fitness. The sopE gene was mainly associated with a temperate bacteriophage mTmV, but recombination with other bacteriophage and apparent horizontal gene transfer of the sopE gene cassette resulted in distribution among at least four mobile genetic elements within the monophasic S. enterica Typhimurium ST34 epidemic clade. The mTmV prophage lysogenic transfer to other S. enterica serovars in vitro was limited, but included the common pig-associated S. enterica Derby (S. Derby). This may explain mTmV in S. Derby co-circulating on farms with monophasic S. Typhimurium ST34, highlighting the potential for further transfer of the sopE virulence gene in nature. We conclude that whole-genome epidemiology pinpoints potential drivers of evolutionary and epidemiological dynamics during pathogen emergence, and identifies targets for subsequent research in epidemiology and bacterial pathogenesis
