The effect of in vivo coaching on therapist behavior management skills
Autism Spectrum Disorders impacts one in every 68 children, costing the United States between 60.9 billion per year. Among the multiple impairments that Autism causes, behavioral deficits are at the forefront of the disability and require intensive interventions such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) in order to manage. If a direct and intensive intervention is not put into place, problem behaviors can impact the individual both socially and academically. Behavior technicians, parents, and classroom assistants can all be trained as therapists and can provide services under supervision that provide significant gains in a client’s behavioral functioning. Therapists currently may not be trained in the most efficient and effective way for dealing with problem behaviors. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of coaching therapists on general behavior analytic management strategies so that the therapist’s skill acquisition will lead to a positive interaction style that decreases problem behaviors and increases positive interactions and compliance in client’s with autism
Social Death
This review will outline various ways in which the notion of 'social death’ can be understood, and how they can be related to clinical practice. The idea of social death is used to analytically represent how someone can be identified and treated as if they are ontologically deficient – meaning that they are not seen as being 'fully human.' This impacts on their position within society and how they are interacted with. This review will consider three examples of social death - often distinguished from physical or biological death - that are important for clinical practice: loss of agency and identity; treating people as if they are already dead; and, rituals and bereavement. Recognising that a distinction between social and biological death may not always be helpful, this review will suggest ways in which healthcare practitioners can minimise the likelihood of inadvertently treating someone as 'socially dead'
Warm HCN, C2H2, and CO in the disk of GV Tau
We present the first high-resolution, ground-based observations of HCN and
C2H2 toward the T Tauri binary star system GV Tau. We detected strong
absorption due to HCN nu_3 and weak C2H2 (nu_3 and nu_2 + (nu_4 + nu_5)^0_+)
absorption toward the primary (GV Tau S) but not the infrared companion. We
also report CO column densities and rotational temperatures, and present
abundances relative to CO of HCN/CO ~0.6% and C2H2/CO ~1.2% and an upper limit
for CH4/CO < 0.37% toward GV Tau S. Neither HCN nor C2H2 were detected toward
the infrared companion and results suggest that abundances may differ between

Towards a Standardized Reinforcement Learning Framework for AAM Contingency Management
Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is the next generation of air transportation that
includes new entrants such as electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL)
aircraft, increasingly autonomous flight operations, and small UAS package
delivery. With these new vehicles and operational concepts comes a desire to
increase densities far beyond what occurs today in and around urban areas, to
utilize new battery technology, and to move toward more autonomously-piloted
aircraft. To achieve these goals, it becomes essential to introduce new safety
management system capabilities that can rapidly assess risk as it evolves
across a span of complex hazards and, if necessary, mitigate risk by executing
appropriate contingencies via supervised or automated decision-making during
flights. Recently, reinforcement learning has shown promise for real-time
decision making across a wide variety of applications including contingency
management. In this work, we formulate the contingency management problem as a
Markov Decision Process (MDP) and integrate the contingency management MDP into
the AAM-Gym simulation framework. This enables rapid prototyping of
reinforcement learning algorithms and evaluation of existing systems, thus
providing a community benchmark for future algorithm development. We report
baseline statistical information for the environment and provide example
performance metrics
Accretion variability of Herbig Ae/Be stars observed by X-Shooter. HD 31648 and HD 163296
This work presents X-Shooter/VLT spectra of the prototypical, isolated Herbig
Ae stars HD 31648 (MWC 480) and HD 163296 over five epochs separated by
timescales ranging from days to months. Each spectrum spans over a wide
wavelength range covering from 310 to 2475 nm. We have monitored the continuum
excess in the Balmer region of the spectra and the luminosity of twelve
ultraviolet, optical and near infrared spectral lines that are commonly used as
accretion tracers for T Tauri stars. The observed strengths of the Balmer
excesses have been reproduced from a magnetospheric accretion shock model,
providing a mean mass accretion rate of 1.11 x 10^-7 and 4.50 x 10^-7 Msun
yr^-1 for HD 31648 and HD 163296, respectively. Accretion rate variations are
observed, being more pronounced for HD 31648 (up to 0.5 dex). However, from the
comparison with previous results it is found that the accretion rate of HD
163296 has increased by more than 1 dex, on a timescale of ~ 15 years. Averaged
accretion luminosities derived from the Balmer excess are consistent with the
ones inferred from the empirical calibrations with the emission line
luminosities, indicating that those can be extrapolated to HAe stars. In spite
of that, the accretion rate variations do not generally coincide with those
estimated from the line luminosities, suggesting that the empirical
calibrations are not useful to accurately quantify accretion rate variability.Comment: 14 pages, 7 Figures, Accepted in Ap
Structural Properties, Order-Disorder Phenomena and Phase Stability of Orotic Acid Crystal Forms
Orotic acid (OTA) is reported to exist in the anhydrous (AH), monohydrate (Hy1) and dimethylsulfoxide monosolvate (SDMSO) forms. In this study we investigate the (de)hydration/desolvation behavior, aiming at an understanding of the elusive structural features of anhydrous OTA by a combination of experimental and computational techniques, namely, thermal analytical methods, gravimetric moisture (de)sorption studies, water activity measurements, X-ray powder diffraction, spectroscopy (vibrational, solid-state NMR), crystal energy landscape and chemical shift calculations. The Hy1 is a highly stable hydrate, which dissociates above 135°C and loses only a small part of the water when stored over desiccants (25°C) for more than one year. In Hy1, orotic acid and water molecules are linked by strong hydrogen bonds in nearly perfectly planar arranged stacked layers. The layers are spaced by 3.1 Å and not linked via hydrogen-bonds. Upon dehydration the X-ray powder diffraction and solid-state NMR peaks become broader indicating some disorder in the anhydrous form. The Hy1 stacking reflection (122) is maintained, suggesting that the OTA molecules are still arranged in stacked layers in the dehydration product. Desolvation of SDMSO, a non-layer structure, results in the same AH phase as observed upon dehydrating Hy1. Depending on the desolvation conditions different levels of order-disorder of layers present in anhydrous OTA are observed, which is also suggested by the computed low energy crystal structures. These structures provide models for stacking faults as intergrowth of different layers is possible. The variability in anhydrate crystals is of practical concern as it affects the moisture dependent stability of AH with respect to hydration

A comparative study of macroinvertebrate biodiversity in highway stormwater ponds and natural ponds
The use of stormwater ponds along the highways is shown to be an effective alternative to conventional systems, which are usually sewers. These ponds have the potential to combine their primary function of pollution and peak flow control with the promotion of biodiversity. The present study focuses on comparing natural and highway stormwater ponds in terms of environmental conditions and biodiversity of macroinvertebrate communities. Twelve highway stormwater ponds and nineteen natural ponds (located within or in the vicinity of cultivated landscape) were explored for the number of taxa, community composition, and selected environmental variables: pH, conductivity, pond surface area, the number of ponds within 1 km radius, and the distance to nearest neighboring pond. Highway stormwater ponds showed much higher conductivity, which is a good proxy for chloride concentration and highway pollutants. In addition, the surface area of stormwater ponds was almost twice as big as that of natural ponds. The biological community composition was very different between the two types of ponds, and the number of taxa was slightly higher in the highway stormwater ponds. The most important variables responsible for the variation in the biological community composition were conductivity, pond surface area, and the number of ponds within 1 km radius. This study supports that, in addition to their role in pollution and peak flow control, stormwater ponds have the potential to provide a habitat that may otherwise be unavailable along the highway
