Where interaction design and clinical psychology meet
The purpose of this final project was to find a common ground between interaction design and clinical psychology through the exploration of the space in between therapy sessions. This process was done through a co-design between the author and a clinical psychologist. Now-a-days, more and more psychologists give contact information and allow for contact outside of therapy sessions because patients often feel the need to have extra support on their day to daily lives. There isn’t however a platform that allows patients to keep on making progress without a dependency from an answer from the psychologist. The methodology applied involves a literature review of all the areas: mental health, mobile and e-health and gamification, applied to health. Followed by the choice and analysis of case studies and exploratory interviews with several clinical psychologists to better understand the needs of patients as users of the system to be developed. An interaction design project was developed, which consist on wireframes and prototypes of all fidelity types until we reach a high fidelity prototype to test in real patients provided by the clinical psychologist in question. As such, this project aimed to create a system, or a platform that allows the space in between therapy sessions to also be a place of personal development and progress, through a tool created with the aid of the clinical psychologistN/
Social workers affecting social policy in Portugal
Policy practice has been gaining a growing interest in social work literature, since it is considered that such practice may promote social policies committed with the furthering of social welfare and justice, but more research is needed on how policy practice is embedded in social worker’s professional practice and which factors may enhance or constraint such kind of practice. This communication is based on the first extensive study trying to ascertain if and how Portuguese social workers incorporate it in their daily professional work, by developing activities focused on influencing social policies, bringing some light on the level of involvement of social workers in policy practice in Portugal. The study approach was quantitative, based on a snowball sample of 265 valid answers to an online survey. The conceptual model was supported in the Civic Voluntarism Model (Verba, et al, 1995) on political participation, and on the Policy Practice Engagement Model (Gal & Weiss-Gal, 2015) which described the main predictors for engaging in policy practice in social work. The findings led to the conclusion that the social workers showed a low level of engagement in policy practice activities, especially those which imply a greater public exposure, acting with the media, policy makers or public officers to share opinions, make a proposition or report a problem. Considering as main factors the socio-political context, the professional context, the organizational context and individual factors, the findings showed that the last explained most of the differences in the social workers involvement in policy practice, especially when considering interest and efficacy. The study pointed out the need to further research in this area. Given that policy practice implies acting in the political structures, political participation may work as a strong predictor for engaging in policy practice. The study showed that social workers are not politically active and distrust the main political institutions. Although in other countries social workers are more politically active than the average citizen (Hamilton & Fauri, 2001; Ritter, 2008) the level of distrust and disaffiliation shown in this study suggest the need to further studying social worker’s political participation. Professional associations and academia are the main stakeholders in the reinforcement of policy practice. The professional associations may work as actors by proxy once social workers recognize the importance of having strong professional associations that allow them to avoid the direct exposure to the political structures. Regarding the academic background, results show that social workers acknowledge that to influence social policy is part of their professional purpose, however they don’t seem to know how to do it and need to develop the required skills for a better performance in this field. Therefore, Academia can play a lead role in the reinforcement of social workers activity in the social policy, through training, research, and expertise.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The impact of interactive screens on store atmosphere: A case study of Leroy Merlin
Nowadays, with the emergence of new technologies, customers have become more demanding about
their choices, increasingly valuing experiences rather than the product itself. This new generation is
always on the lookout for new trends and some even prefer to shop online, as it is easier and faster
process. However, in some types of products they need to physically touch and test in order to
consolidate their choices.
Thus, retailers must adapt their physical stores to fit them and create a memorable retail customer
experience, adapted to all targets, able to interact and emerge in a unique environment that positively
impacts them sensorially and that can be converted into customer satisfaction, increasing purchases and,
in the best scenario, creating a loyalty relationship with the brand.
In addition, Marketers have shown that the new retail trends impact and improve customer journey
and the Interactive Screens are an example of one, which may have influence on factors such as
customer experience and the possibility of visiting the store again, making a good opportunity for
retailers to engage with their customers.
For that reason, the present case study is based on the DIY and Home Improvement market in
Portugal, which is growing, and the main purpose is to study the brand Leroy Merlin and in which and
how its in-store Kiosks impacts its store atmosphere.
devido à facilidade e rapidez do processo.
Identification and Characterization of the Transcriptional Regulator ChrB in the Chromate Resistance Determinant of Ochrobactrum tritici 5bvl1
Ochrobactrum tritici 5bvl1 is able to resist to high concentrations of chromate through the expression of an inducible
chromate-resistant determinant, found in a mobile element (TnOtChr), which carries the genes, chrB, chrA, chrC and chrF.
The regulation of chr operon present in TnOtChr, which is controlled by a transcriptional regulator, ChrB, was characterized
in the current work. Fusions of chr promoter, or chr promoter and chrB gene, upstream of a gfp reporter gene, identified the
most probable promoter sequence within the tnpR-chrB intergenic region. This region contains an AT-rich imperfect
inverted repeat sequence, which overlaps a part of the 210 sequence. The results of the in vitro DNA-binding assays with
purified ChrB (His- or no-tagged) showed that the protein binds directly to the chr promoter region. In order to identify the
ChrB functional domain for sensing chromate stress and for DNA-binding, site-directed mutagenesis of ChrB was performed.
Among several single amino acid mutants, three mutants (R180; R187 and H229) prevented chromate induction without any
modification to the protein’s stability. Interestingly, two ChrB mutants (R18 and R23) were constitutively active, regardless of
chromate stress conditions, indicating that the residues most probably belong to the protein-DNA binding site. As such, the
ChrB was classified as a transcriptional regulator that recognizes a specific DNA sequence, regulating the expression of a
chromate resistance determinant. This work was funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) under the PTDC/MAR/109057/2008 project. Rita Branco was supported by a

Marketing plan for online aqctivity of Rota Vicentina boosting direct website sales
The nature tourism experienced a great expansion of its market with the appearance of
different lifestyles.
In this Work Project a study regarding the website direct sales of Rota Vicentina was
developed. Its website shows the idea of being solely an information structure and not a
purchase one, leading to a current absence of online sales. Hence, it is suggested the
modification of its business model, using different instruments and channels. Some digital
marketing recommendations were developed in order to boost website sales, such as a platform
for online reviews, remarketing campaigns and social media activity
Fostering impact-orientated interdisciplinary collaboration between design and care
Design can be defined as a practice (leading to artefacts and services) as well as a way to research but it also can be used to describe a way to look at the world (design thinking) (Bannon and Ehn 2012; Kimbell 2011). As an approach, design has been highlighted as a way to innovate within ill-structured problems (so-called wicked problems)(Rittel and Webber 1973) such as healthcare (PatrÃcio et al. 2020). Within this, the authors position themselves on the continuum between design and dementia that began to emerge in the 1980s and aligned to the paradigm shift taking place in dementia care; from a purely biomedical model towards a psychosocial-oriented approach that included recognizing the influence of the designed environment (Zeisel et al. 2020). Parallel to care’s person-centered-care approach (Kitwood 1988), was design’s shift toward being more human-centered and inclusive (Roth 1999).
There are challenges, however, when design collaborates with professional care partners. Care’s full participation is sometimes ‘hindered’ by aspects related to design (such as academic jargon, time management, etc.) (Hendriks et al. 2017). When looking to move forward, the rules of engagement for collaboration need to be defined. It must resolve these issues but also consider the means to bridge similar challenges when working with other domains such as health policy making, care economics, human resources, logistics, etc.
Based on initial research into the intersection of these different domains, this paper identifies the challenges that come with these cross-discipline, impact-orientated collaborations in terms of the expectations, methodology, processes, organisational structures, and visions of impact from non-design partners in these projects. It reflects upon the inclusion of these non-design partners in design-orientated projects and offers a series of considerations as a means to better prepare and enhance impactful collaboration within care between design and other necessary domains.publishe
Pseudo scapula alata: a case report of a scapular osteochondroma
An osteochondroma is a type of cartilaginous tumour, that frequently affects long bones. In the scapula, although rare, this benign tumour is the most frequently encountered. The symptoms at this location are usually related to the mass effect that it can produce. Surgery is recommended when symptoms of compression, pain or an increase in size are noticed. The authors present a case of a 11 year-old-boy with an osteochondroma on the ventral surface of the scapula, that cause a pseudo winging of this bone and pain, with indication for surgical excision. Pseudo scapula alata should be differentiated from the true one, which is a dynamic dyskinesia. In the presence of this static deformity the surgeon must keep in mind other diagnosis as a scapular osteochondroma or other mass effect lesions. This benign tumour does not frequently suffer malignant transformation. Surgery can lead to a complete resolution of the symptoms, and if done properly decrease to almost zero the rate of recurrence. The diagnosis of the tumour in this location can be delayed due to its atypical location and presentation. With this case report the authors expect to raise awareness of the unusual manifestations of osteochondroma, especially in the paediatric setting.

PTDC/CPO-CPO/6230/2020Over the past decades, the level of regulation of fixed-term contracts has been in flux. Many reforms deregulating these contracts were followed by a regulatory countertrend, a puzzling finding considering influential theoretical expectations like the ones developed by the dualization and liberalization literatures. This paper draws on the comparative employment relations and comparative political economy literatures to identify the drivers of pro-outsider reforms. Furthermore, it develops an innovative argument claiming that governments may rely on support from a ‘domestic coalition’ including workers in permanent contracts, or they can leverage the European link to support their intention of conducting a pro-outsider reform. Each of these paths relies on the assemblage of distinct pro-reform coalitions of policy actors. To test our argument, the paper uses fsQCA. We compare 38 reforms enacted in 16 European countries between 1985–2019. After the fsQCA analysis, we conduct a qualitative discussion of the different paths.publishersversionepub_ahead_of_prin
