The impact of school-based child centered play therapy on academic achievement, self-concept, and teacher-child relationship stress.
This study examined the effectiveness of child centered play therapy (CCPT) with academically at-risk 1st graders. In this quasi-experimental design, twenty-one 1st grade students were assigned to the experimental group and 20 students were assigned to the no treatment control group. The children in the experimental group received two 30 minute play therapy sessions per week for the duration of eight weeks. Three hypotheses were analyzed. A two-factor repeated measures analysis of variances (SPANOVA) were performed on each dependent variable to determine if the experimental group performed differently from the control group across time according to the pretest and posttest results of the Young Child's Achievement Test (YCAT), the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance for Young Children (PSPCSAYC), and the Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (STRS). Additionally, partial η2 was calculated to determine practical significance. One hypothesis was retained at the .05 level of significance. Findings indicated that academically at-risk 1st graders who participated in CCPT scored statistically significant higher on academic achievement. Specifically, children assigned to the experimental group demonstrated a statistically significant increase in Early Achievement Composite (p = .03) when compared to children assigned to the no treatment control group. No statistical significant results were found on Self-Concept and Student-Teacher Relationship Stress
Life and death are linked in a testament, through this document –that is a file of different
records- we can study the way of life and the incomes of a couple that represented many aspects
of the Court of the Catholic Kings: Francisco Ramírez de Madrid and Beatriz Galindo. They
settled an important part of they fortune in the Kingdom of Granada and in the city of Malaga.
This record also allows to know how the widow, Beatriz Galindo, could appealed the King and
Queen because she was in disagreement with the last wish of Francisco Ramírez de Madrid
Unobserved heterogeneity, exit rates, and re-employment wages
Exit rates from unemployment and re-employment wages decline over an unemployment period after controlling for worker observable characteristics. We study the role of unobserved heterogeneity in an economy with asymmetric information and directed search. We show that the unique equilibrium is separating and skilled workers have more job opportunities and higher wages. The composition of the unemployed varies with the duration of unemployment, so average exit rates and wages fall with time. The separating equilibrium relies on performance-related pay schemes and the ability of firms to commit to renting an input that is complementary to the worker skills
Non equilibrium inertial dynamics of colloidal systems
We consider the properties of a one dimensional fluid of brownian inertial
hard-core particles, whose microscopic dynamics is partially damped by a
heat-bath. Direct interactions among the particles are represented as binary,
instantaneous elastic collisions. Collisions with the heath bath are accounted
for by a Fokker-Planck collision operator, whereas direct collisions among the
particles are treated by a well known method of kinetic theory, the Revised
Enskog Theory. By means of a time multiple time-scale method we derive the
evolution equation for the average density. Remarkably, for large values of the
friction parameter and/or of the mass of the particles we obtain the same
equation as the one derived within the dynamic density functional theory (DDF).
In addition, at moderate values of the friction constant, the present method
allows to study the inertial effects not accounted for by DDF method. Finally,
a numerical test of these corrections is provided.Comment: 13 pages+ 3 Postscript figure
Peer Reviewe
Three-dimensional volume rendering in computed tomography for evaluation of the temporomandibular joint in dogs
Based on computed tomography (CT) images, volume rendering was used to obtain a three-dimensional representation of data (3DVR). The aims of this study included: describing the bone anatomy of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of dogs; comparing the TMJs of each dog by skull type and age; comparing 3DVR images with three-standard-plane CTs; assessing soft tissues adjacent to the TMJ and assessing pathological cases. Multidetector computed tomography scans of bilateral TMJs of 410 dogs were observed. From a ventral view, slight displacements in the positions of the skulls were seen, whereas from a caudal view, differences in amplitude of the articular space were observed. Dolichocephalic and mesaticephalic dogs showed more similar TMJ features than brachycephalic dogs. The shape of the TMJ bones were irregular in dogs under 1 year old. The 3DVR images related to the three-standard-plane CT improved the overall comprehension of the changes in the articular space amplitude and condylar process morphology. The fovea pterygoidea, mandibular fossa and retroarticular process were perfectly shown. A better spatial situation of adjacent soft tissues was obtained. The 3DVR represents an ancillary method to the standard-plane CT that could help in the understanding of the anatomy and diagnoses of different pathologies of the TMJ in dogs
Load that maximizes power output in countermovement jump
Introduction:
One of the main problems faced by strength and conditioning coaches is the issue of how to objectively quantify and monitor the actual training load undertaken by athletes in order to maximize performance. It is well known that performance of explosive sports activities is largely determined by mechanical power.
Objective:
This study analysed the height at which maximal power output is generated and the corresponding load with which is achieved in a group of male-trained track and field athletes in the test of countermovement jump (CMJ) with extra loads (CMJEL).
Methods:
Fifty national level male athletes in sprinting and jumping performed a CMJ test with increasing loads up to a height of 16 cm. The relative load that maximized the mechanical power output (Pmax) was determined using a force platform and lineal encoder synchronization and estimating the power by peak power, average power and flight time in CMJ.
Results:
The load at which the power output no longer existed was at a height of 19.9 ± 2.35, referring to a 99.1 ± 1% of the maximum power output. The load that maximizes power output in all cases has been the load with which an athlete jump a height of approximately 20 cm.
Conclusion:
These results highlight the importance of considering the height achieved in CMJ with extra load instead of power because maximum power is always attained with the same height. We advise for the preferential use of the height achieved in CMJEL test, since it seems to be a valid indicative of an individual's actual neuromuscular potential providing a valid information for coaches and trainers when assessing the performance status of our athletes and to quantify and monitor training loads, measuring only the height of the jump in the exercise of CMJEL.Actividad Física y Deport
