Skylab investigation of the upwelling off the Northwest coast of Africa

The upwelling off the NW coast of Africa in the vicinity of Cape Blanc was studied in February - March 1974 from aircraft and in September 1973 from Skylab. The aircraft study was designed to determine the effectiveness of a differential radiometer in quantifying surface chlorophyll concentrations. Photographic images of the S190A Multispectral Camera and the S190B Earth Terrain Camera from Skylab were used to study distributional patterns of suspended material and to locate ocean color boundaries. The thermal channel of the S192 Multispectral Scanner was used to map sea-surface temperature distributions offshore of Cape Blanc. Correlating ocean color changes with temperature gradients is an effective method of qualitatively estimating biological productivity in the upwelling region off Africa

Agency From A Stone: Shelley’s Posthumanist Experiments In Mont Blanc

This article reads Shelley’s ‘Mont Blanc’ as an extended exploration into possible modes of relationship linking the human mind to the material world. The modes of relationship considered by Shelley anticipate many of the structures and strategies developed by posthumanist theory, including structural coupling, strategic anthropomorphism, imagistic translation, and human-nonhuman assemblages. After summarizing Kantian and post-Kantian readings of ‘Mont Blanc,’ the essay works through an extended close reading of the poem to elucidate its proto-posthumanist elements

Effect of Rootstock on the Incidence of Dying Arm of Chenin blanc vines

A survey was conducted over a period of three seasons to determine the incidence of dying arm on Vi tis vinifera L. cv. Chenin blanc grafted on 11 rootstock cultivars in an existing rootstock trial. A significant seasonal increase in dying arm was observed from 1979 to 1981. Fewer vines with dying arm symptoms occured where Chenin blanc was grafted on V. rupestris cv. Rupestris du Lot and V. champini cv. Ramsey compared to the rest of the rootstock cultivars. Chenin blanc grafted on 101-14 Mgt and 3306 C rootstocks exhibited the highest incidence of dying arm symptoms. This difference in disease incidence in rootstock cultivars is of utmost importance and could be helpful in controlling the disease
