Transport and Phonon Damping in 4^{\bf 4}He

The dynamic structure function $S(k,\omega)$ informs about the dispersion and damping of excitations. We have recently (Phys. Rev. B {\bf 97}, 184520 (2018)) compared experimental results for $S(k,\omega)$ from high-precision neutron scattering experiment and theoretical results using the ``dynamic many-body theory'' (DMBT), showing excellent agreement over the whole experimentally accessible pressure regime. This paper focuses on the specific aspect of the propagation of low-energy phonons. We report calculations of the phonon mean-free path and phonon life time in liquid \he4 as a function of wave length and pressure. Historically, the question was of interest for experiments of quantum evaporation. More recently, there is interest in the potential use of $^4$He as a detector for low-energy dark matter (K. Schulz and Kathryn M. Zurek, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 117}, 121302 (2016)). While the mean free path of long wave length phonons is large, phonons of intermediate energy can have a short mean free path of the order of $\mu$m. Comparison of different levels of theory indicate that reliable predictions of the phonon mean free path can be made only by using the most advanced many--body method available, namely, DMBT

La tesis trata de ahondar en las formas en las que iniciativas ciudadanas que tienen por objeto la gestión de la tecnología en el espacio urbano se relacionan con las administraciones públicas. Lo hace a partir de nociones y conceptos de los STS tales como política, composición híbrida o democracia técnica. En síntesis, podemos decir que la tesis responde a la pregunta formulada por Bruno Latour de ¿qué significa hacer pasar la política del lado lo de la técnica?. Nosotros ofrecemos una propuesta centrada en lo que denominamos una sociotécnica de las políticas públicas. La tesis se basa en un estudio de caso centrado una red sin hilos libre y abierta (ubicada principalmente en Cataluña y llamada guifi. net) surgida del deseo e iniciativa de la sociedad civil y que, hasta la fecha, es la más grande del mundo.Thesis presented at the Departament de Psicologia Social de la UAB by Yann Bona on December, 2010. Our work relies on a case study focused on a free and open wireless network (located in Catalunya for the desire and will of Civil Society wich, up to date, turns out to be the world's biggest free wireless network

Entre substance et figurativité. Le discours critique de la poésie

Fondé sur trois ouvrages récents consacrés à la poésie contemporaine, l'article fait apparaître une problématique propre à ce discours critique : la présence et le statut d'une dimension figurative en son sein. Au delà d'une simple stratégie persuasive de séduction dont le post-formalisme renouvelle la possibilité, cette pratique du figuratif renvoie à la question de la substance en relation avec la forme. On explicite alors le lien paradoxal qui unit le discours critique à son objet, la poésie contemporaine incorporant dans son exercice une interrogation métalinguistique, et le métalangage critique incorporant quant à lui une dimension figurative du discours pour signifier une proximité sensible avec l'expérience poétique, inaccessible au seul langage conceptuel. Ces parcours inversés inscrivent, dans le discours critique, une poéticité de second degré.Based upon three recently published works, devoted to contemporary French poetry, the article focuses the problem of a figurative dimension as a part of this criticism genre. Far from being a seduction persuasive technique, the possibility of which the actual post-formalism era could have renewed, this presence of figurativity inside a cognitive discourse refers to the specific relationship between "substance" and "form" in poetic expression. A paradoxal tie then appears, tightly connecting critical discourse with its object : as contemporary poetry incorporates a metalinguistic interrogation into its language, criticist metalanguage incorporates a figurative dimension in order to express and explain a sensitive closeness with poetic experience, that an abstract descriptive language could not signify. Those two reversal ways set up a second degree poeticity in criticism writing

The prescriptive power of the television host. A transposition of Milgram's obedience paradigm to the context of TV game show

voir données supplémentaires en ligne sur site de la revueInternational audienceToday's fascination with television makes us wonder whether it might not represent an authority capable of leading people in a television studio to inflict cruel acts on others, even though they condemn those acts. The experiment reported here allows us to answer this question in the affirmative. Therefore, we transposed Milgram's famous experimental obedience paradigm to the context of a "real" TV game show, in the studio of a large television production company, with a live audience and no prizes. We set up several experimental conditions designed to tell us if, in such contexts, obedience was the dominant response, as it is in the often-replicated classic situation. We also wished to know if the introduction of variations would reduce obedience. The results show that obedience to the host is the dominant response, as it is in Milgram's classic situation. However, variations that are assumed to reduce this obedience do not in fact demonstrate the expected effects. An additional experimental condition appears to demonstrate that a determining factor of obedience is the physical proximity of the host incarnating the televisual power. We offer a conclusion addressing the societal aspects of obedience.Cet article est le compte rendu scientifique de l'expérimentation qui a fait l'objet de l'émission TV "Le jeu de la Mort". Retransmis dans plusieurs pays (en France par France 2 en mars 2010), l'émission grand public ne montrait qu'une partie de l'expérimentation dans un style compréhensible par tous. Cet article donne donc davantage de résultats. Résumé : Vu la fascination qu'exerce aujourd'hui la télévision, on se demande si elle ne représente pas une autorité susceptible de conduire les gens à commettre, sur un plateau de télévision, des actes cruels à l'égard d'autrui, actes que pourtant ils réprouvent. La présente expérience nous permet de répondre affirmativement à cette question. Pour le démontrer, nous avons transposé le célèbre paradigme d'obéissance de Milgram dans le contexte d'un jeu télévisé, filmé dans le studio d'une entreprise de production d'émissions télévisées, impliquant un public mais pas de gains. Nous avons réalisé plusieurs conditions expérimentales destinées à faire apparaître si, dans un tel contexte, l'obéissance restait, comme dans la situation classique souvent reproduite, la réponse dominante. Nous souhaitions aussi savoir si l'introduction de variantes permettrait d'obtenir, une réduction de l'obéissance. Les résultats montrent que l'obéissance à l'animatrice est, comme dans la situation standard de Milgram, la réponse dominante et que des variantes supposées a priori réduire cette obéissance ne la réduisent pas. Une condition expérimentale additionnelle semble indiquer qu'un facteur déterminant de l'obéissance est la proximité physique de l'animatrice représentant le pouvoir télévisuel. On conclut en évoquant les aspects sociétaux de l'obéissance
