The demand for urban transport: An application of discrete choice model for Cadiz
The study of the demand for transport has among others applications, the valuation of travel time saving that is a very important question in cost-benefit analysis, and to adopt transport policy tools. Since McFadden developed a discrete choice model for travel demand, it has usually been the application of this model to study the individual behaviour when he has to choice among transport modes. Citizens of big cities have to face traffic congestion; pollution, wasted time in travels and fuel, noise, stress and accidents are the costs imposed by congestion to society, elements that reduce the quality of life in cities. Public transport is a real alternative to private transport that is socially less expensive, for this reason this paper tries to forecast travel demand for public transport in Cadiz when travelling have to choice between public or private transport, using a discrete choice model. The results of this analysis (travel demand, value of time, elasticities) can be used to design transport policies that could reduce congestion.

How EFL teachers teach vocabulary : do the beliefs and the actions match?
The vocabulary teaching practices of EFL teachers are guided by their beliefs and assumptions about what constitutes sound teaching and learning, and by their knowledge of lexical learning and teaching. This paper deals with teachers? choices regarding their vocabulary teaching practices, focusing on the lexical content and the techniques used in class. Data from class observations and a survey will be used to compare the consistency of the teachers? beliefs with the practices.http://www.faapi.org.ar/downloads/FAAPI2017.SelectedPapers.pdfFil: López-Barrios, M. Stern-Gerlach Entanglement in Spinor Bose-Einstein Condensates
Entanglement of spin and position variables produced by spatially
inhomogeneous magnetic fields of Stern-Gerlach type acting on spinor
Bose-Einstein condensates may lead to interference effects at the level of
one-boson densities. A model is worked out for these effects which is amenable
to analytical calculation for gaussian shaped condensates. The resulting
interference effects are sensitive to the spin polarization properties of the
condensate.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figure
Introduction: emotions and mobilities: gendered, temporal and spatial representations
Emotions are increasingly recognised as a fundamental dimension of human mobility. Indeed, there has been sustained and increasing scholarly interest in the intersection between migration and emotion over the last two decades.Theoretical and empirical contributions in this area have advanced our understanding of migration experiences in their diversity. Furthermore, viewing migrants’ lived experiences through an emotions lens can reveal a variety of hidden inequalities, unsettle hegemonic discourses and reveal practices of resistance.Perceptions of social categories such as ethnicity, gender, sexuality and age are shaped by emotions and it is therefore valuable to ‘investigate how certain emotions “stick” to certain bodies or flow and traverse space’
Non-Hermitian robust edge states in one-dimension: Anomalous localization and eigenspace condensation at exceptional points
Capital to topological insulators, the bulk-boundary correspondence ties a
topological invariant computed from the bulk (extended) states with those at
the boundary, which are hence robust to disorder. Here we put forward an
ordering unique to non-Hermitian lattices, whereby a pristine system becomes
devoid of extended states, a property which turns out to be robust to disorder.
This is enabled by a peculiar type of non-Hermitian degeneracy where a
macroscopic fraction of the states coalesce at a single point with geometrical
multiplicity of , that we call a phenomenal point.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Integrating Lean Six Sigma and discrete-event simulation for shortening the appointment lead-time in gynecobstetrics departments: a case study
Long waiting time to appointment may be a worry for pregnant women, particularly those who need perinatology consultation since it could increase anxiety and, in a worst case scenario, lead to an increase in fetal, infant, and maternal mortality. Treatment costs may also increase since pregnant women with diverse pathologies can develop more severe complications. As a step towards improving this process, we propose a methodological approach to reduce the appointment lead-time in outpatient gynecobstetrics departments. This framework involves combining the Six Sigma method to identify defects in the appointment scheduling process with a discrete-event simulation (DES) to evaluate the potential success of removing such defects in simulation before we resort to changing the real-world healthcare system. To do these, we initially characterize the gynecobstetrics department using a SIPOC diagram. Then, six sigma performance metrics are calculated to evaluate how well the department meets the government target in relation to the appointment lead-time. Afterwards, a cause-and-effect analysis is undertaken to identify potential causes of appointment lead-time variation. These causes are later validated through ANOVA, regression analysis, and DES. Improvement scenarios are next designed and pretested through computer simulation models. Finally, control plans are deployed to maintain the results achieved through the implementation of the DES-Six sigma approach. The aforementioned framework was validated in a public gynecobstetrics outpatient department. The results revealed that mean waiting time decreased from 6.9 days to 4.1 days while variance passed from 2.46 days2 to 1.53 days2
Improvement of Surface Roughness and Hydrophobicity in PETG Parts Manufactured via Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM): An Application in 3D Printed Self–Cleaning Parts
The fused deposition modeling (FDM) technique is used today by companies engaged in
the fabrication of tra c signs for the manufacture of light-emitting diode LED spotlights. In this
sector, the surface properties of the elements used (surface finish, hydrophobic features) are decisive
because surfaces that retain little dirt and favor self–cleaning behavior are needed. A design of
experiments (L27) with five factors and three levels has been carried out. The factors studied were:
Layer height (LH), print temperature (T), print speed (PS), print acceleration (PA), and flow rate (F).
Polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) specimens of 25.0 25.0 2.4 mm have been printed and,
in each of them, the surface roughness (Ra,0, Ra,90), sliding angle (SA0, SA90), and contact angle (CA0,
CA90) in both perpendicular directions have been measured. Taguchi and ANOVA analysis shows
that the most influential variables in this case are printing acceleration for Ra, 0 (p–value = 0.052) and
for SA0 (p–value = 0.051) and flow rate for Ra, 90 (p–value = 0.001) and for SA90 (p–value = 0.012).
Although the ANOVA results for the contact angle are not significant, specimen 8 (PA = 1500 mm/s2
and flow rate F = 110%) and specimen 10 (PA =1500 mm/s2 and F = 100%) have reached contact angle
values above or near the limit value for hydrophobia, respectively
