Quantum state engineering via unitary transformations
We construct a Hamiltonian for the generation of arbitrary pure states of the
quantized electromagnetic field. The proposition is based upon the fact that a
unitary transformation for the generation of number states has been already
found. The general unitary transformation here obtained, would allow the use of
nonlinear interactions for the production of pure states. We discuss the
applicability of this method by giving examples of generation of simple
superposition states. We also compare our Hamiltonian with the one resulting

Nonadditive measure and quantum entanglement in a class of mixed states of N^n-system
Through the generalization of Khinchin's classical axiomatic foundation, a
basis is developed for nonadditive information theory. The classical
nonadditive conditional entropy indexed by the positive parameter q is
introduced and then translated into quantum information. This quantity is
nonnegative for classically correlated states but can take negative values for
entangled mixed states. This property is used to study quantum entanglement in
the parametrized Werner-Popescu-like state of an N^n-system, that is, an
n-partite N-level system. It is shown how the strongest limitation on validity
of local realism (i.e., separability of the state) can be obtained in a novel
manner
Relationship between Salmonella shedding at the slaughter and pig Salmonella status during the fattening period
In this study, the pig’s risk of shedding at slaughter with regard to its previous Salmonella status was estimated. A total of 133 pigs were serologically monitored monthly to determine their Salmonella status during the fattening period. Mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN) and faecal (FEC) samples were collected further at slaughter for bacteriology. Pigs were grouped as non-infected pigs (group A); animals likely infected at the end of the fattening period (B); and animals infected at least two weeks before the end of the fattening period (C). The probability of shedding in group A was high (36.5%) and likely related to Salmonella exposure during transport or lairage, but also to possible false-negative bacteriological results. The odds of shedding for groups B and C was 3.1 (95%CI=1.1-9.2) and 8.2 (1.4-48.6) times higher, respectively, when compared to group A. Overall most of the infected pigs from groups B and C showed same serotype in MLN and FEC samples (61% and 77%, respectively) and PFGE analysis confirmed majority were genetically related. In conclusion, the control of Salmonella infection along the fattening period appears to be of utmost importance to prevent slaughter contamination
Unitary transformation approach for the trapped ion dynamics
We present a way of treating the problem of the interaction of a single
trapped ion with laser beams based on successive aplications of unitary
transformations onto the Hamiltonian. This allows the diagonalization of the
Hamiltonian, by means of recursive relations, without performing the Lamb-Dicke

Characterization of Salmonella enterica serovars Tyhimurium and 4,5,[12]:i:- isolated from pigs and pig environmental-related sources in the NE of Spain
A total of 117 Salmonella Typhimurium and 59 monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium (S. 4,[5],12:i:-) strains isolated from pig, wild bird, rodent, and farm environmental samples were characterized by phage typing, antibiotic susceptibility testing and Multiple-Locus Variable-Number Tandem Repeat Analysis (MLVA) in order to evaluate their phenotypic and genetic relatedness. In S. 4,[5],12:i:- the most prevalent phage types were U311 (40.7%) and DT195 (22%) which did not correspond with the so-called Spanish clone, and generally showed a different resistant pattern (ASSuT). Antibiotic resistance was found in 85.8% of the isolates, with 94.1% of them displaying multidrug resistance (MDR). MLVA identified 92 different profiles, six of them shared by both serovars. The Minimum Spanning Tree showed one major cluster that included 95% of the S. 4,[5],12:i:- isolates, which came from different animal sources, geographic locations and time periods, suggesting high clonality among those Salmonella strains and the ability to spread among pig farms. Phenotypically, isolates of S. 4,[5],12:i:- were closer to European strains than to the well-characterized Spanish clone. The spread of these new strains of S. 4,[5],12:i:- would have been likely favoured by the important pig trade between this Spanish region and other European countries
Spontaneous emission and teleportation in cavity QED
In this work, we consider atomic spontaneous emission in a system consisting
of two identical two-level atoms interacting dispersively with the quantized
electromagnetic field in a high-Q cavity. We investigate the destructive effect
of the atomic decay on the generation of maximally entangled states, following
the proposal by Zheng S B and Guo G C (2000 Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 2392). In
particular, we analyze the fidelity of teleportation performed using such a
noisy channel and calculatethe maximum spontaneous decay rate we may have in

Quantum mechanical description of Stern-Gerlach experiments
The motion of neutral particles with magnetic moments in an inhomogeneous
magnetic field is described in a quantum mechanical framework. The validity of
the semi-classical approximations which are generally used to describe these
phenomena is discussed. Approximate expressions for the evolution operator are
derived and compared to the exact calculations. Focusing and spin-flip
phenomena are predicted. The reliability of Stern-Gerlach experiments to

Bound states of 3He at the edge of a 4He drop on a cesium surface
We show that small amounts of 3He atoms, added to a 4He drop deposited on a
flat cesium surface at zero temperature, populate bound states localized at the
contact line. These edge states show up for drops large enough to develop well
defined surface and bulk regions together with a contact line, and they are
structurally different from the well-known Andreev states that appear at the
free surface and at the liquid-solid interface of films. We illustrate the
one-body density of 3He in a drop with 1000 4He atoms, and show that for
sufficiently large number of impurities, the density profiles spread beyond the
edge, coating both the curved drop surface and its flat base and eventually

Unparticle physics and neutrino phenomenology
We have constrained unparticle interactions with neutrinos and electrons
using available data on neutrino-electron elastic scattering and the four CERN
LEP experiments data on mono photon production. We have found that, for
neutrino-electron elastic scattering, the MUNU experiment gives better
constraints than previous reported limits in the region d>1.5. The results are
compared with the current astrophysical limits, pointing out the cases where
these limits may or may not apply. We also discuss the sensitivity of future
experiments to unparticle physics. In particular, we show that the measurement
of coherent reactor neutrino scattering off nuclei could provide a good
sensitivity to the couplings of unparticle interaction with neutrinos and
quarks. We also discuss the case of future neutrino-electron experiments as

New interactions: past and future experiments
In this talk I will review the present status and future perspectives of some
popular extensions of the conventional three-neutrino oscillation scenario,
from a purely phenomenological point of view. For concreteness I will focus
only on three specific scenarios: non-standard neutrino interactions with
matters, models with extra sterile neutrinos, and neutrino decay and
