English for Porters - ESP Curriculum Developmnet

    Get PDF
Designing an English language curriculum that is relevant to students’ needs and empowers them to use their language skills in real life situations with respect to their job is the focus of English for Specific Purposes. This paper addresses both the theoretical peculiarities of designing an authentic and valuable ESP course in English for Porters, as well as the actual process of implementing it. Fundamental principals of ESP are explained in the theoretical part. Research carried out through questionnaires established the basis for a detailed profile of the porters’ needs. This paved the way for creating a coursebook and an intensive course that directly mirrors the demand. Implementing such a course may benefit porters at other universities as it gives them a specific set of tools and enables them to communicate in English in their work

Carbonyl Reduction of Flubendazole in the Human Liver: Strict Stereospecificity, Sex Difference, Low Risk of Drug Interactions

Flubendazole (FLU), an anthelmintic drug of benzimidazole type, is now considered a promising anti-cancer agent due to its tubulin binding ability and low system toxicity. The present study was aimed at determining more information about FLU reduction in human liver, because this information has been insufficient until now. Subcellular fractions from the liver of 12 human patients (6 male and 6 female patients) were used to study the stereospecificity, cellular localization, coenzyme preference, enzyme kinetics, and possible inter-individual or sex differences in FLU reduction. In addition, the risk of FLU interaction with other drugs was evaluated. Our study showed that FLU is predominantly reduced in cytosol, and the reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) coenzyme is preferred. The strict stereospecificity of FLU carbonyl reduction was proven, and carbonyl reductase 1 was identified as the main enzyme of FLU reduction in the human liver. A higher reduction of FLU and a higher level of carbonyl reductase 1 protein were found in male patients than in female patients, but overall inter-individual variability was relatively low. Hepatic intrinsic clearance of FLU is very low, and FLU had no effect on doxorubicin carbonyl reduction in the liver and in cancer cells. All these results fill the gaps in the knowledge of FLU metabolism in human

Title in English: Museum professions and the public 2: Reflection of the educational phenomenon in contemporary museum practice. Among topical issues in present-day museology and museum practice is the dynamic relationship between science and education. The functionality of this interconnection in museum practice is projected into various forms of communication of research results achieved by professional museum workers to the general public. This mainly concerns the creation of well-understandable and visitor-attractive temporary and permanent exhibitions, specialised education programmes for schoolchildren or other groups, popularising thematic lectures and other accompanying programmes and cultural events, which at the same time observe the didactic rules of scientificity, presentiveness, interconnection of theory and practice etc. The publication offers a current insight into selected scientific disciplines involved in museum institutions and into the specifics of museum practice in the field of popularisation and mediation of their educational potential to the general public

This bachelor thesis introduces a suggested programme plan for a summer camp for primary school children. The camp itself focuses on developing personality traits and social skills through the methods of personal and social education. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The main emphasis is on the personality and social education and its utilization by summer camps. The practical part focuses on the actual suggested programme plan for the primary school children, its realisation and evaluation

Comparative analysis of nominalization processes in French scientific and popularization articles on chemistry

v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with processes of nominalization in French scientific and popularization articles on chemistry. In order to examine processes of nominalization in French scientific texts, this study first analyses the scientific genre in general, characterizes its stylistic standards and describes the system of its inner differentiation (scientific genres and popularization genre). The main part of this thesis is then focused on processes of nominalization in French scientific texts, more specifically on the transformation from verbs to nouns. The outcomes of the theoretical part are verified by means of quantitative analysis which is realized on a corpus of scientific texts on chemistry in selected substyles. Since the concerned discipline belongs to natural sciences, these texts are found to be more formal. Klíčová slova: nominalization, scientific genre, popularization genre, Frenc

    Valency of French adverbs

    Get PDF
(in English): French grammars define the word class adverbs as a very heterogeneous set distinguished particularly by its invariability and intransitivity. The aim of this thesis is to study the valency structure of certain French adverbs forming such a subset which to certain extent denies aforesaid definition. Therefore, the definition of adverbial valency and the characteristic of "inheritance" and "fading" of adverbial valency potential after a transformation from verbs and adjectives will be given. The outcomes of the theoretical part will then be verified by analysing the data presented in the electronic dictionary le Petit Robert completed by qualitative and quantitative analyses based on two written French corpuses: Frantext and L'Est Républicain. To describe the "inheritance" and "fading" of valency potential, the same method will be used to depict the set of the adverbs derived from the adjectives, which take prepositional phrases headed by the preposition de as their complement. This work will be based not only on the theory of general linguistics and grammar, but also on the knowledge of mathematical and corpus linguistics. Klíčová slova (anglicky): valence, adverbs, French, corpus linguistics
