    Writing of this Thesis aims to find out the legal position and the role of the Special Guidance Institution for Children in the Criminal Justice System, the scope of childdevelopment and re-education of children in conflict with the law, As for thebackground of writing that the number of children in conflict with the law in 2019 hasincreased a total of 32 children in 2018 or from 9 children to 41 children who arefostered. Likewise, the number of children in conflict with the law in 2018 has increasedby 8 children in 2017 or from 1 child to 9 children. From this condition, learning takesplace about the actions that need to be taken in rder to survive in the midst of difficultconditions.     Nitrogen ion implantation at 50 keV of energy on the surface of SS 316 stainless steel, by calculation will only be able to reach a depth of 561 Å and the ions will be distributed Gaussian effectively at a depth of 561 Å ± 339 Å, so that from the surface to a depth of 222 Å is not filled by ions (empty) which of course will affect the properties of the implanted surface. The solution to the problem is to implant the target several times at <50 keV of energy. To minimize the un-filled volume, the study of simulation and calculation has been conducted. In this study a simulation using TRIM program to know how many times the target should be implanted at different energies and also the calculation of the amount of nitrogen ions that should be implanted, so that the distribution of nitrogen ions can be evenly distributed from the surface to 561 Å. From the results of simulations and calculations the results show that the target must be implanted at least 6 times implantation at energy 50 keV,40 keV, 30 keV, 20 keV and 10 keV. Under these conditions the dose that must be implanted are 7,4×1017ion/cm2, 6,44×1017ion/cm2, 4,6×1017 ion/cm2, 3×1017 ion/cm2 and 1,6×1017 ion/cm2. The total doses and amount of nitrogen filling the implanted volume are 7,32%.

    Changes in the stratospheric ozone concentration causes UV-radiation to increase. The response to UV-B radiation on the organ and cellular level is mainly an increase in the formation of UV-absorbing compounds meant to decrease UV-radiation penetration into the tissue. Some key enzymes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis and the phenyl-propanoid pathway have been shown to be up-regulated by UV-radiation, as are levels of key antioxidants glutathione and ascorbate, whereas carotenoid pigment formation and the incorporation of nitrogen into amino acids can be inhibited. Since components such as flavonoids, amino acids and carotenoids are important constituents of grapes with a marked effect on flavour development, some influence of altered UV-radiation can be expected. We investigated these possible effects under field conditions by selectively attenuating various portions of the light spectrum in the UV-part with polyester and di- and tri-acetate films and exposing the entire canopy or parts thereof to these conditions during berry development. We evaluated skin pigment composition using a non-destructive spectro-photometric technique. There was a strong UV-induced shift towards the formation of red and brown pigment components without affecting sugar levels. Chlorophyll degradation in the berry skin proceeded faster in the high UV-radiation treatments and this could be assessed for non-destructively by measuring berry fluorescence. Amino acid concentration was reduced under high levels of UV-B radiation and both the total bound glycosidic secondary metabolites and phenolics were increased.     Adapted motivational interviewing to improve the uptake of treatment for glaucoma in Nigeria: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

    BACKGROUND: Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease associated with irreversible visual loss. In Africa, glaucoma patients often present late, with very advanced disease. One-off procedures, such as laser or surgery, are recommended in Africa because of lack of or poor adherence to medical treatment. However, acceptance of surgery is usually extremely low. To prevent blindness, adherence to treatment needs to improve, using acceptable, replicable and cost-effective interventions. After reviewing the literature and interviewing patients in Bauchi (Nigeria) motivational interviewing (MI) was selected as the intervention for this trial, with adaptation for glaucoma (MIG). MI is designed to strengthen personal motivation for, and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring a person's reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion. The aim of this study is to assess whether MIG increases the uptake of laser or surgery amongst glaucoma patients where this is the recommended treatment. The hypothesis is that MIG increases the uptake of treatment. This will be the first trial of MI in Africa. METHODS: This is a hospital based, single centre, randomized controlled trial of MIG plus an information sheet on glaucoma and its treatment (the latter being "standard care") compared with standard care alone for glaucoma patients where the treatment recommended is surgery or laser.Those eligible for the trial are adults aged 17 years and above who live within 200 km of Bauchi with advanced glaucoma where the examining ophthalmologist recommends surgery or laser. After obtaining written informed consent, participants will be randomly allocated to MIG plus standard care, or standard care alone. Motivational interviewing will be delivered in Hausa or English by one of two MIG trained personnel. One hundred and fifty participants will be recruited to each arm. The primary outcome is the proportion of participants undergoing laser or surgery within two months of the date given to re attend for the procedure. MIG quality will be assessed using the validated MI treatment integrity scale. DISCUSSION: Motivational interviewing may be an important tool to increase the acceptance of treatment for glaucoma. The approach is potentially scalable and may be useful for other chronic conditions in Africa. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN79330571 (Controlled-Trials.com)

    Muslim Modesty: Cultural Reverberations of Local Predominant Conventions Towards the Meaning-Making of Modesty Among Young Adult Muslimahs in Marawi and Manila, Philippines

    Islam is widely recognized for its prominence on the manifestation of modesty throughout existing religious customs, primarily grounded on holy scriptures urging Muslimahs, especially, to maintain self-effacement in public. However, the universal benchmark for Islamic modesty has been interpreted and reshaped by Muslim women worldwide, depending on cognitive and external constituents observed and practiced across different localities, upbringings, and ethnic groups. The study utilized a qualitative approach in ascertaining these determinants and examining their comprehensive bearing toward a Muslimah\u27s meaning-making of modesty. The research focused on a comparison between Muslimahs living in Manila and Marawi due to their contrasting lifestyles, norms, and backgrounds, specifically the internal and external factors, their lived experiences, and their influence on the meaning-making of modesty. Findings show that the meaning-making processes between Manila and Marawi respondents considerably differ. The former relies more on external considerations such as the prevailing norms (social, religious, and ethnic) of the non-Islamic city. However, it is notable that perception and practice only narrowly accord with one another among Manila respondents. Marawi respondents have a far more extensive grasp on Hayaa, where they primarily establish their judgment and compliance according to internal influences (personal belief and knowledge) while still acknowledging the impact of a Muslim-centered environment towards their practice

    Control of neoclassical tearing modes by Sawtooth control

    The onset of a neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) depends on the existence of a large enough seed island. It is shown in the Joint European Torus that NTMs can be readily destabilized by long-period sawteeth, such as obtained by sawtooth stabilization from ion-cyclotron heating or current drive. This has important implications for burning plasma scenarios, as alpha particles strongly stabilize the sawteeth. It is also shown that, by adding heating and current drive just outside the inversion radius, sawteeth are destabilized, resulting in shorter sawtooth periods and larger beta values being obtained without NTMs

    Task shifting to non-physician clinicians for integrated management of hypertension and diabetes in rural Cameroon: a programme assessment at two years

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The burden of non-communicable chronic diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, increases in sub-Saharan Africa. However, the majority of the rural population does still not have access to adequate care. The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of integrating care for hypertension and type 2 diabetes by task shifting to non-physician clinician (NPC) facilities in eight rural health districts in Cameroon.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Of the 75 NPC facilities in the area, 69 (87%) received basic equipment and training in hypertension and diabetes care. Effectiveness was assessed after two years on status of equipment, knowledge among trained NPCs, number of newly detected patients, retention of patients under care, treatment cost to patients and changes in blood pressure (BP) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) among treated patients.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Two years into the programme, of 54 facilities (78%) available for re-assessment, all possessed a functional sphygmomanometer and stethoscope (65% at baseline); 96% stocked antihypertensive drugs (27% at baseline); 70% possessed a functional glucose meter and 72% stocked oral anti-diabetics (15% and 12% at baseline). NPCs' performance on multiple-choice questions of the knowledge-test was significantly improved. During a period of two years, trained NPCs initiated treatment for 796 patients with hypertension and/or diabetes. The retention of treated patients at one year was 18.1%. Hypertensive and diabetic patients paid a median monthly amount of 1.4 and 0.7 Euro respectively for their medication. Among hypertensive patients with ≥ 2 documented visits (n = 493), systolic BP decreased by 22.8 mmHg (95% CI: -20.6 to -24.9; p < 0.0001) and diastolic BP by 12.4 mmHg (-10.9 to -13.9; p < 0.0001). Among diabetic patients (n = 79) FPG decreased by 3.4 mmol/l (-2.3 to -4.5; p < 0.001).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The integration of hypertension and diabetes into primary health care of NPC facilities in rural Cameroon was feasible in terms of equipment and training, accessible in terms of treatment cost and showed promising BP- and FPG-trends. However, low case-detection rates per NPC and a very high attrition among patients enrolled into care, limited the effectiveness of the programme.</p
