Causal Set Dynamics: A Toy Model
We construct a quantum measure on the power set of non-cyclic oriented graphs
of N points, drawing inspiration from 1-dimensional directed percolation.
Quantum interference patterns lead to properties which do not appear to have
any analogue in classical percolation. Most notably, instead of the single
phase transition of classical percolation, the quantum model displays two
distinct crossover points. Between these two points, spacetime questions such
as "does the network percolate" have no definite or probabilistic answer.Comment: 28 pages incl. 5 figure
The impacts of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and E-commerce on bilateral trade flows
This study examines the impact of Internet and e-commerce adoption on bilateral trade flows using a panel of 21 developing- and least-developed countries and 30 OECD countries. Given the commitment of East African Community (EAC) to become the frontrunner in export-led economy across the African continent, special attention is dedicated to analyse the role of ICT and e-commerce on EACâs export performance. The empirical results indicate that better access to the modern ICT and adoption of e-commerce applications stimulate bilateral trade flows at various levels. The study notes that the efficient use of ICT equipped with high speed internet and secured servers is a crucial milestone for unlocking the e-trade potentials for developing- and least-developed counties
Integrated devices based on networks of nanotubes and nanowires
Although advanced devices based on nanotubes (NTs) and nanowires (NWs) are drawing much attention, devices based on a single NT or NW are not suitable for general manufacturing purposes, as it is still extremely difficult to control the electronic properties, growth and alignment of individual NTs or NWs on an industrially reliable scale. An alternative strategy for implementing NTs or NWs in real-world devices is the use of NT- or NW-network-based structures containing a number of NTs or NWs. Herein, we review the recent progress in NT/NW-network-based integrated devices. The technology for NW/NT-network-based devices is supported by massive integration methods, such as directed assembly, printing and directed growth, and devices based on NW/NT networks display several unique properties, such as percolating conduction and scaling behaviors, that differentiate them from individual NT/NW-based devices. A variety of applications are possible for NT/NW networks, including transistors and sensors, all of which offer unique characteristics for use in integrated nanoelectronics
