Complex dielectric permeability and conductivity of two systems, namely polytetrafluorethylene – intact carbon nanotubes and polytetrafluorethylene – carbon nanotubes dispersed in aqueous media, has been studied in super high-frequency range (9 GHz) and at low frequencies (0,1; 1 and 10 kHz). Doping of the polymer with the dispersed nanotubes decreases percolation threshold (limit ) from 4,5 wt. % to 2,6 wt. % due to uniform distribution of the filler in the polymer. This results to increase of interface interaction polymer - carbon nanotubes that is demonstrated by increase of value of real and imaginary component of complex dielectric permeability

Changes in SARS-CoV-2 Spike versus Nucleoprotein Antibody Responses Impact the Estimates of Infections in Population-Based Seroprevalence Studies.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-specific antibody responses to the spike (S) protein monomer, S protein native trimeric form, or the nucleocapsid (N) proteins were evaluated in cohorts of individuals with acute infection (n = 93) and in individuals enrolled in a postinfection seroprevalence population study (n = 578) in Switzerland. Commercial assays specific for the S1 monomer, for the N protein, or within a newly developed Luminex assay using the S protein trimer were found to be equally sensitive in antibody detection in the acute-infection-phase samples. Interestingly, compared to anti-S antibody responses, those against the N protein appear to wane in the postinfection cohort. Seroprevalence in a "positive patient contacts" group (n = 177) was underestimated by N protein assays by 10.9 to 32.2%, while the "randomly selected" general population group (n = 311) was reduced by up to 45% relative to the S protein assays. The overall reduction in seroprevalence targeting only anti-N antibodies for the total cohort ranged from 9.4 to 31%. Of note, the use of the S protein in its native trimer form was significantly more sensitive compared to monomeric S proteins. These results indicate that the assessment of anti-S IgG antibody responses against the native trimeric S protein should be implemented to estimate SARS-CoV-2 infections in population-based seroprevalence studies.IMPORTANCE In the present study, we have determined SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody responses in sera of acute and postinfection phase subjects. Our results indicate that antibody responses against viral S and N proteins were equally sensitive in the acute phase of infection, but that responses against N appear to wane in the postinfection phase where those against the S protein persist over time. The most sensitive serological assay in both acute and postinfection phases used the native S protein trimer as the binding antigen, which has significantly greater conformational epitopes for antibody binding compared to the S1 monomer protein used in other assays. We believe these results are extremely important in order to generate correct estimates of SARS-CoV-2 infections in the general population. Furthermore, the assessment of antibody responses against the trimeric S protein will be critical to evaluate the durability of the antibody response and for the characterization of a vaccine-induced antibody response
Heparan sulfate facilitates Rift Valley fever virus entry into the cell
Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), an emerging arthropod-borne pathogen, has a broad host and cell tropism. Here we report that the glycosaminoglycan heparan sulfate, abundantly present on the surface of most animal cells, is required for efficient entry of RVFV. Entry was significantly reduced by preincubating the virus inoculum with highly-sulfated heparin, by enzymatic removal of heparan sulfate from cells and in cells genetically deficient in heparan sulfate synthesis
Regulator constants and the parity conjecture
The p-parity conjecture for twists of elliptic curves relates multiplicities
of Artin representations in p-infinity Selmer groups to root numbers. In this
paper we prove this conjecture for a class of such twists. For example, if E/Q
is semistable at 2 and 3, K/Q is abelian and K^\infty is its maximal pro-p
extension, then the p-parity conjecture holds for twists of E by all orthogonal
Artin representations of Gal(K^\infty/Q). We also give analogous results when
K/Q is non-abelian, the base field is not Q and E is replaced by an abelian
variety. The heart of the paper is a study of relations between permutation
representations of finite groups, their "regulator constants", and
compatibility between local root numbers and local Tamagawa numbers of abelian
varieties in such relations.Comment: 50 pages; minor corrections; final version, to appear in Invent. Mat
Unsupervised classemes
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-33885-4_41Proceedings of Information Fusion in Computer Vision for Concept Recognition at the ECCV 2012In this paper we present a new model of semantic features that, unlike previously presented methods, does not rely on the presence of a labeled training data base, as the creation of the feature extraction function is done in an unsupervised manner.
We test these features on an unsupervised classification (clustering) task, and show that they outperform primitive (low-level) features, and that have performance comparable to that of supervised semantic features, which are much more expensive to determine relying on the presence of a labeled training set to train the feature extraction function
Amplitude measurements of Faraday waves
A light reflection technique is used to measure quantitatively the surface
elevation of Faraday waves. The performed measurements cover a wide parameter
range of driving frequencies and sample viscosities. In the capillary wave
regime the bifurcation diagrams exhibit a frequency independent scaling
proportional to the wavelength. We also provide numerical simulations of the
full Navier-Stokes equations, which are in quantitative agreement up to
supercritical drive amplitudes of 20%. The validity of an existing perturbation
analysis is found to be limited to 2.5% overcriticaly.Comment: 7 figure
Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers holding a wound healing active compound and its effect in cell culture. A model for the study of surface mediated drug delivery systems
Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films holding a synthetic bioinspired wound healing active compound were used as drug-delivery platforms. Palmitic acid Langmuir monolayers were able to incorporate 2-methyltriclisine, a synthetic Triclisine derivative that showed wound healing activity. The layers proved to be stable and the nanocomposites were transferred to solid substrates. Normal human lung cells (Medical Research Council cell strain 5, MRC-5) were grown over the monomolecular Langmuir-Blodgett films that acted as a drug reservoir and delivery system. The proliferation and migration of the cells were clearly affected by the presence of 2-methyltriclisine in the amphiphilic layers. The methodology is proposed as a simple and reliable model for the study of the effects of bioactive compounds over cellular cultures.EEA Marcos JuárezFil: Fernández, Luciana. A human monoclonal antibody blocking SARS-CoV-2 infection
The emergence of the novel human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Wuhan, China has caused a worldwide epidemic of respiratory disease (COVID-19). Vaccines and targeted therapeutics for treatment of this disease are currently lacking. Here we report a human monoclonal antibody that neutralizes SARS-CoV-2 (and SARS-CoV) in cell culture. This cross-neutralizing antibody targets a communal epitope on these viruses and may offer potential for prevention and treatment of COVID-19
